Sunday’s 54th Annual Grammy Awards on CBS (8p-1133p) delivered more than 39.9 million total viewers, the most viewers since 1984 and the second largest audience in the award show’s history based on live plus same day ratings results from Nielsen. With the A18-49 demo, the Grammys averaged a 14.1/32; among A25-54 a 16.0/33; and a 12.1/31 with A18-34.
Season two of docu-series The Franchise on Showtime will highlight the Miami Marlins. The series ushers viewers into the normally private world of a professional baseball team and into the lives of the players, coaches and team personnel. Production is underway and shooting will document various locations during off-season such as Spring Training in Jupiter, FL and then embedded with the team during regular season. The Franchise is produced by MLB Productions with the support of the Major League Baseball Players Association and airs exclusively on Showtime. The premiere date will be released later this year.
Wellness and lifestyle network, Veria Living debuts a new half-hour exercise series BollyFit next Monday at 8a with an encore airing at 630p. Host and Bollyfit International founder Reshmi Chetram will lead viewers with this new cardio workout combining aerobics and Bollywood dance moves.
New episodes of The First 48: Missing Persons will return to A&E Network’s schedule beginning March 15 at 10p. The series will follow missing persons cases handled by the Chicago Police Department and its elite squad of detectives assigned to these cases. The series is produced by Found Films, LLC for A&E.
A second season of the tattoo competition series Ink Master is on tap for Spike TV. The network ordered 13 episodes, five more eps than season one’s order. Hosted by Dave Navarro, Ink Master is produced by Original Media.
TV Guide Network renewed its original reality series Nail Files for a second season set to debut this summer featuring star and owner of The Painted Nail salon, Katie Cazorla. The first season launched last summer and the network tallied its highest ratings for an original series premiere. The series is produced by reality producer SallyAnn Salsano and her team at 495 Productions. On an aside note, this Thursday TV Guide Network will pay tribute to the late Whitney Houston with Whitney Houston, An Icon Remembered at 8p.
The series premiere of Full Metal Jousting from Pilgrim Studios on HISTORY posted 1.9 million total viewers as well as 1.2 million A18-49 and 1.1 million A25-54 impressions last Sunday.
For its midseason debut on Sunday at 9p, The Walking Dead on AMC delivered 5.4 million with A18-49 and 4.4 million among A25-54 in addition to 8.1 million total viewers. The Walking Dead also tallied 10.1 million total viewers for the night combining the 9p premiere episode and the 11p and 1230a encores. Following at 10p, AMC launched the new unscripted series Comic Book Men with 2.0 million total viewers.
Clarification: Today VH1 Classic is airing the three-hour tribute to the late Whitney Houston titled Whitney Houston Video Retrospective at 12p and again tonight at 8p.

PlayOn! Sports (PlayOn) is launching a new nationwide network initiative concentrating exclusively on high school boys and girls varsity sports coverage called the PlayOn High School Sports Network. PlayOn is the largest rights holder, producer, distributor and aggregator of high school sports events. The multi-platform offerings will include a 24-hour television channel, products for broadband, mobile and VOD platforms and PlayOn will debut the network this fall across cable, satellite, telco and online platforms. Features of the PlayOn High School Sports Network include: 15,000+ hours of live event coverage of regular season, postseason and championship events across all sports; original and exclusive programming associated with event coverage such as original series, studio shows, news, documentaries and highlights; a linear TV channel with complete 24-hour schedule and minimal repeats; a library containing VOD, broadband and mobile products; and access to numerous sports and year-round programming covering football, basketball, baseball, competitive cheer, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, water polo, weightlifting and wrestling.
MGM Networks Latin America launches its female-skewing lifestyle and entertainment channel Ella today. The new network makes its debut in the US Hispanic market and in Puerto Rico sporting the tagline Todo Mujer. Todos los Dias (Every Woman. Every Day). Ella is available through iO TV’s iO en espanol digital cable package as well as on Liberty, ClaroTV and Choice in Puerto Rico.
UK-based Target Entertainment has made several broadcast deals for the crime series Police Interceptors with 58 one-hour episodes. Italy’s Sitcom Group and Norway’s TV Norge both bought all four seasons of the series; season four was picked up by Foxtel Australia, VMMA Belgium and RTL Netherlands. Police Interceptors is produced by Raw Cut for Channel 5 UK.
Prior to the Berlin Film Festival and EFM, Opus Distribution acquired the Peakviewing Transatlantic film library consisting of 19 titles slated for worldwide distribution. Titles in the library include Beauty and the Beast, The Christmas Stallion, The Last Leprechaun and The Little Unicorn.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: ABC and CBS shared the top spot Friday at 1.6/5 each with the A18-49 viewers, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. ABC took a bite out of the competition at 8p with Shark Tank at 1.8/6 and Univision was next in line with Una Familia con Suerte at 1.6/5. CBS took over at 9p with CSI: NY at 1.7/5 though NBC’s Grimm was only a tenth of a rating point behind at 1.6/5. CBS continued in first place through 10p with Blue Bloods at 1.8/5 and Univision’s La Que No Podia Amar was a close second at 1.7/5.
