On Monday, FOX said it is moving the midseason finale of Bones from December 15 to January 12.  The episode titled The Crack in the Code will now air the same night as FOX premieres new series The Finder.  The current seventh season of Bones has a total of six episodes and after the January 12 finale will go on hiatus until spring 2012.  Showrunner Hart Hanson indicated when Bones returns the series will either complete its 13-episode order or bump to a 17-episode super-sized season.

During NBC’s Sunday Night Football game between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions, NBC and the NFL announced Madonna was selected as the halftime performer for Super Bowl XLVI.  Madonna is teaming with the creative group at Cirque du Soleil, choreographer Jamie King and multi-media artists from Moment Factory to create her live performance.  NBC will air Super Bowl XLVI on February 5.

In mid-January a third season of reality series Undercover Boss will premiere on CBS.  The new season opens January 15 at 8p following the boss of Diamond Resorts International as he goes undercover to glean an inside look at the workings of his corporation.  Produced by Studio Lambert, Undercover Boss will go inside several other companies during season three including The Dwyer Group, Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates and TaylorMade Golf Company.

Lisa Kudrow’s series Web Therapy was granted a second season order from Showtime.  The former online comedy series starring Kudrow as Fiona Wallice, the self-serving psychotherapist who treats patients in three-minute increments via webcam, was given at least ten half-hour episodes for the second season airing in 2012.  Fiona will give advice during the new season to Meryl Streep, Rosie O’Donnell, Conan O’Brien, Molly Shannon, Minnie Driver and Selma Blair; Lily Tomlin is returning as Fiona’s mother along with Dan Bucatinsky as Fiona’s assistant and Victor Garber as Fiona’s husband.  Kudrow created Web Therapy with Don Roos and Bucatinsky for Is or Isn’t Entertainment.

TLC heads back to Alaska for the new series Hook, Line, & Sisters opening December 29 at 10p.  The series follows the Andersons, a family of fishermen who participate in the competitive world of deep-sea commercial fishing.  The family includes daughters Sierra and Memry with the former sharing her father’s sea-loving spirit while the latter is a fashionista though both face challenges as females in a male-dominated industry.  The first season, produced by Screaming Flea Productions will have seven episodes and the finale has been slated to air on February 2.

Tonight, TR3s: MTV, Musica y Mas, the bilingual/bicultural entertainment network for US Latinos opens a new biography series at 7p called La Escalera (The Ladder) that profiles present-day Latinos and their rise to fame.  The first season will highlight comedian Carlos Mencia, Spanish rock star Juanes, entertainment blogger Perez Hilton and actor Wilmer Valderrama among others.  La Escalera will air on Tuesdays at 7p on Tr3s.

New competition reality series Best Ink debuts on Oxygen January 30 at 10p.  Best Ink delves into the world of tattoo artistry as the competition pits the best male and female tattoo artists from around the country.  The artists are vying for $100,000 and a cover story in Tattoo magazine.  Best Ink is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions, a Banijay Group company.

Sportsman Channel is working with author/hunter and outdoorsman Steven Rinella on the new original series MeatEater.  Premiering January 1 at 9p, MeatEater is a weekly half-hour series following the Midwestern-born Rinella as he tracks and hunts his prey and then creates fireside meals.  Zero Point Zero produces the series.

Early in the New Year, TV One premieres ten new episodes of Unsung, its one-hour biography series honoring the lives and careers of successful black artists who may not have received the level of recognition they deserved.  The new episodes will air weekly on Mondays beginning January 2 at 10p with a profile of R&B/jazz singer Vesta Williams and encore episodes will repeat on Mondays at 1a.  Others profiled include Bobby Womack, Atlantic Starr and Freddie Jackson among others.

Getting organized in the New Year, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network revealed it will air a two-night premiere of Extreme Clutter in its second season hosted by organization expert Peter Walsh.  The series was previously titled Enough Already! with Peter Walsh and will open January 1 at 11p following the two-hour debut of Oprah’s Next Chapter at 9p.  A second premiere episode of Extreme Clutter will air on January 2 at 10p in its regular time period.  Jeff Kuntz and Peter Walsh serve as executive producers on Extreme Clutter in association with Discovery Studios.

The canine-focused series Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan moves to a new network for its eighth season.  Nat Geo WILD debuts Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan on January 7 with back-to-back episodes starting at 8p.  The new season will have 10 all-new episodes watching as Millan rehabilitates more problem dogs.  The series is produced by MPH Entertainment and Emery/Sumner Productions for National Geographic Channels.

A second season of Dance Moms returns to Lifetime’s schedule beginning January 10 at 9p.  The sophomore season will premiere just before the launch of Lifetime’s new fashion competition series 24 Hour Catwalk.  Dance Mom is produced by Collins Avenue.

ZenithOptimedia outlined its most recent global ad expenditure forecast for this year and next saying 2011 will end at $464 billion, up +3.5% from 2010.  In 2012, the worldwide ad expenditure prediction increases by +4.7% or $486 billion.  The increase globally is being affected positively, according to ZenithOptimedia by quadrennial events, such as the Summer Olympics, the European Football Championship and the US Presidential and other elections as well as Japan’s recovery after its earthquake in March, both of which may add a possible $7 billion toward global growth.

On a similar note, GroupM forecasts the worldwide measured advertising expenditure will increase by +6.4% in 2012 taking the same quadrennial events and Japan’s recovery into consideration.  GroupM’s spending forecast is an update as part of its biannual worldwide report titled “This Year, Next Year” which predicts global ad spending.  For this year, GroupM says the advertising spending in measured media will reach $490 billion, a +5% increase over 2010.

MediaCom Worldwide, a GroupM agency as part of the WPP Group, was selected as the global media planning and buying agency by Revlon for all of its brands.  MediaCom has been Revlon’s media agency-of-record since 2009 in the US and Canada and the agency will take over as head of all Revlon markets starting January 2012 with work coordinated from its New York office.
