Giving viewers an early holiday gift, NBC announced as of yesterday it is offering all previously aired episodes of its new fall shows for free via NBC.com. This includes previously aired eps of Up All Night, Whitney and Grimm. NBC will also make available full season episodes of returning series Parenthood, The Biggest Loser and The Sing-Off as well as the first season of The Voice prior to its new season premiere on February 5 following the Super Bowl.
Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg’s series Punk’d is making a comeback on MTV with a new season in 2012. Before the premiere date, viewers will get an exclusive first look at footage of the new season at the network’s annual New Year’s Eve party airing live on December 31 at 11p from MTV’s Times Square studio. NYE in NYC 2012 will be hosted by Demi Lovato and Tyler Posey of MTV’s series Teen Wolf and will feature musical numbers by Lovato as well as Selena Gomez, J Cole, Jason Derulo and Mac Miller. Kutcher and Goldberg’s company Katalyst is behind Punk’d and they both serve as executive producers.
Investigation Discovery’s new series, Dark Minds brings together crime author M. William Phelps and criminal profiler John Kelly as they reopen unsolved homicide cases believed to be the work of serial killers. Joining the pair in the criminal hunt is an anonymous source, a convict serving multiple life sentences for a series of murders and known to the audience as “13.” The eight-episode series makes its world premiere on Investigation Discovery starting January 25 at 10p. Beyond Productions is behind Dark Minds for Investigation Discovery.
Docu-drama series Paranormal Witness received a second season renewal from Syfy. Production on the twelve new episodes has already begun and the new sophomore season is slated to premiere in August 2012. Paranormal Witness is produced by Raw TV.
nuvoTV’s series Operation: Osmin is back for a second season beginning January 13 at 10p. In the new season, former Cuban military officer-turned-celebrity fitness trainer, Osmin Hernandez will transform the lives and bodies of twenty ordinary people in only 30 days. Operation: Osmin is produced by Executive Producer Eric Evangelista and Hot Snakes Media.
Original series The Real Housewives of Orange County, the version that launched the franchise for Bravo, returns for a seventh season beginning February 7 at 9p. The seventh season is produced by Evolution Media for Bravo.
A report released by Kantar Media said total advertising expenditures during the first nine months of 2011 were up by +1.5% over a year ago and finished the period at $104.7 billion. In third quarter alone, spending growth slowed and was up by +0.4% compared to 2010. Specifically, most forms of television saw increases in third quarter: expenditures on cable networks jumped by +6.5%; network TV rose a skosh by +0.2%; Spanish-language TV saw the largest gain at +18% followed by national syndication at a strong +14.8%; and spot TV had the only decrease in third quarter at a -5.7%.
Sunday’s season one finale of Homeland on Showtime attracted 1.71 million viewers at 10p and 2.03 million total viewers for the night. The frosh season finale now ranks as the highest-rated concluding episode for a freshman series in Showtime’s history. Homeland also delivered its best ratings to date with the season finale, up +58% over the series premiere which tallied 1.08 million viewers. Homeland is now the network’s #2 rated series behind only Dexter. Also on Sunday, the sixth season finale of Dexter at 9p brought in 2.23 million viewers and 2.71 million for the night. Dexter’s season finale also holds the distinction of being the most-watched telecast on Showtime in 2011.

New syndicated first-run talk show Jeff Probst has now sold in 80% of the US, including 24 of the top 25 markets reports CBS Television Distribution. New stations picking up the one-hour talk show hosted by Survivor host Jeff Probst are WJW/Cleveland and KTVI/St. Louis, both owned by Local TV. Jeff Probst will launch in fall 2012.
Cablevision Systems Corp. forged a deal with HBO to offer its iO TV customers access to HBO’s online video destination, HBO GO and MAX GO. Cablevision’s subscribers to HBO and/or Cinemax will have free, unlimited access to the related online services at any time on any computer in the US that has a high-speed internet connection as well as via iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and other select AndroidTM devices. These offered services will launch in the next few months.
Original series Tamar & Vince was approved by WE tv as part of the network’s 2012 programming slate. The series is a spinoff of WE tv’s series Braxton Family Values and features Tamar Braxton and her husband Vincent Herbert as they juggle their busy careers in the music industry and their personal life. WE tv ordered eight one-hour episodes tentatively set to debut in fourth quarter 2012. Production on Tamar & Vince begins in March with Magical Elves producing for WE tv.
TV Guide Network is taking the success of two specials and turning them into weekly series. Hollywood Moms Night will debut in March while Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On will premiere a month later in April. The five-episode Hollywood Moms Night features best friends Alison Sweeney (Days of Our Lives, The Biggest Loser and more) and Ali Landry (former Miss USA, model/actress) as they host private potluck dinners for other famous moms. The series is produced by Ellen Rakieten Entertainment and RelativityREAL. Ellen Rakieten, Tom Forman and Brad Bishop are on board as executive producers; Alison Sweeney and Ali Landry also serve as executive producers. Original reality series Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On has eight episodes and follows sisters, Carnie Wilson and Wendy Wilson and best friend Chynna Phillips as they stage a musical comeback after having a big hit 20 years ago. This series is from RelativityREAL with Tom Forman, Jay Blumenfield, Tony Marsh and Brad Bishop serving as executive producers. David Simone and Winston Simone of DSW Entertainment also are listed as executive producers.
Friday A18-49 Analysis: Univision notched another Friday night win at 1.5/5 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Univision opened primetime at 8p with Una Familia con Suerte on top at 1.5/5 with ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition next in line at 1.2/4. During 9p, Univision continued in #1 with La Fuerza del Destino at 1.8/6 followed by NBC’s Grimm at 1.5/5. Univision lost its clean sweep at 10p as NBC’s Dateline did best at 1.3/4 though Univision’s La Rosa de Guadalupe was a tenth of a rating point behind at 1.2/4.

Former CNBC anchor and CBS News correspondent, Trish Regan was tapped by Bloomberg Television as an Anchor. Trish will serve as Co-Anchor for the network’s Street Smart program airing from 3-5p weekdays beginning January 9. Trish will be based at Bloomberg Television’s headquarters in New York. Additionally, she will anchor upcoming primetime specials and will help lead anchor coverage of the 2012 Presidential campaign for the network.
Javier Morgado joins CNN’s new morning show as Senior Broadcast Producer, reporting to Shannon High, Executive Producer. Most recently Javier was a VP/Business Development at Latina magazine and prior to that was with NBC News for ten years including a stint at Today as supervising producer. The new four-hour morning show on CNN launches in January and the network has yet to announce the show’s name.
Thorn Himel was elevated to Sales Manager of the Atlanta Rebels Team at Continental Television Sales, a unit of the Katz Television Group.
Scripps Networks Interactive hired Rob McCall as VP/Ad Sales, Midwest for HGTV and DIY Network. Rob was formerly with MTV Networks as VP/GSM in the Central region. Based in Chicago, Rob reports to Donna Stephens, SVP/Ad Sales, HGTV and DIY Network.
In a new position, Liz Jones joins Relativity Media as SVP/Digital Marketing to head the creation and implementation of marketing campaigns for all digital platforms on behalf of Relativity’s roster of films. Liz will report to Terry Curtin, President/Theatrical Marketing.
Pixeldust Studios tagged Dianna Costello as Executive Producer. With Dianna’s addition, the studio can expand its ability to develop creative and business partnerships in the production of non-fiction entertainment aimed at broadcast and cable television networks as well as museums, corporation, government agencies and educational institutions. Dianna will manage marketing and development activities among other duties.
