~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Following a bidding war with multiple networks, NBC picked up an untitled thriller from Rand Ravich and handed the project a put-pilot commitment.  The plot is set in and around Washington, D.C. and is about an idealistic Secret Service agent who finds himself at the center of an international crisis on his first day on the job.  20th Century Fox Television is producing with Ravich serving as writer and EP.  Far Shariat is also on board as a non-writing EP with Ravich.  Previously, Ravich created NBC’s drama Life that starred Damian Lewis.

FX finalized a script development agreement with writer Sidney Quashie and music industry entrepreneur Dr. Dre.  The one-hour drama pilot project in development focuses on present-day Los Angeles through the perspective of the music industry and the crime business.  Quashie is the Creator/Executive Producer on the project and Dre serves as an EP.  Daniel Schnider will be Co-EP for Dre’s company Crucial TV and Brad Bertner is also a Co-EP.

A new reality series, Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition was picked up by Lifetime.  The new series will feature Dance Moms’ Abby Lee Miller and will showcase 12 girl and boy dancers aged six through 13 as they compete for a $100,000 cash prize and a scholarship to the Young Dancer Program at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York.  Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin will join Miller as a judge along with dancer and celebrity choreographer Richard Jackson.  Kevin Manno from MTV’s The Seven will host the series.  Lifetime ordered 10 episodes of the series and slated it to launch this fall.  Collins Avenue is producing.

When TBS’ comedy Men at Work returns in 2013, Peri Gilpin (Frasier) will join the second season in a recurring role, reports TVLine.  Gilpin will play Alex, the new boss at Full Steam magazine where the main characters played by Danny Masterson, Adam Busch, James Lesure and Michael Cassidy work.

A one-hour special, Against The Grain: The Year Mother Nature Struck Back recounts what is happening currently on American farms during one of the worst droughts since the Dustbowl of the 1930s as well as other extreme weather conditions such as floods and tornadoes.  The special, from producers Robb Weller and Gary Grossman along with industry marketing veteran Harold Weitzberg, who also serves as executive producer and creator as well as agriculture expert Al Kluis is an introduction to the series in development, Against The Grain.  Cynopsis Media spoke to Weitzberg and according to him the series will follow farm families through the growing season as they manage the impacts caused by weather, family, financial pressure and markets.  The first airings of the special happened over this past weekend in Joplin, Quad Cities, Fort Wayne and Greensboro.  “Viewer reaction was extremely positive,” said Weitzberg. “Premieres and secondary showings will continue through November and the show is being picked up by local TV stations.” Continued Weitzberg, “We are posting broadcast dates and stations on our website at www.AgainstTheGrain.TV.”

Casting Call: VPE Talent is casting for Nat Geo WILD’s upcoming new series Spoiled Rotten Pets hosted by Beth Stern.  The show is searching for people who have unusual pets that are treated better than the owner’s human friends and family.  This new series from Picture This Television features pets that are completely spoiled by their owners.  Casting is ending soon, so send in information about you and your spoiled rotten furry family members to: www.thepetcasting.com.

Casting Call: Weingrad Casting, LLC and World of Wonder Productions, behind Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing are now casting for a docu-series following the life and career of a group of competitive on-air weather stars.  The series produced by World of Wonder Productions wants to know what happens on and off the air and what it takes to be the best in your market?  If you are a weatherman in your city or town and would like to be considered for this show, send an email to: [email protected] and include your contact info, your reel and photos.

Casting Call: Grand Prix Productions is casting for a weekly series and looking for families with adult children who have moved home after college.  For more info on the project, please email with specifics on your situation along with where you are located to: [email protected].

Submissions Call: AMC is launching a new online video contest called Hey DISH, Where’s My AMC? at www.WheresMyAMC.com.  This contest is in response to DISH’s recent blackout of AMC network and its sister networks IFC, WE tv and Sundance Channel last month.  The contest is accepting submissions through August 29, 2012 and invites fans of AMC to create a 30- to 90-second video about how DISH customers feel about not getting AMC’s shows including The Walking Dead, Mad Men and Hell on Wheels among others.  Cash and other prizes will be awarded to the Grand Prize winner.  To enter, visit www.WheresMyAMC.com.
