Turner Broadcasting System officially snagged online sports property Bleacher Report to add to its portfolio. The sports media destination draws over 10 million monthly unique visitors. As part of the acquisition, Brian Grey will take on an expanded role as CEO, Bleacher Report & Senior Vice President, and continue to oversee B/R’s day-to-day operations out of its San Francisco offices.

Sunday night’s primetime coverage of the London Olympics on NBC drew an average of 31.3 million viewers. Viewership was up 15% from the comparable night at the Beijing Olympics (27.2 million) and up 20% from the comparable night at the Athens Olympics (26.0 million), according to Nielsen. Events drew a 17.5/29 national rating/share, 9% higher than the comparable night from Beijing (16.0/27). During the daytime, the Andy Murray victory over Roger Federer drew 8.2 million viewers and had a household rating of 5.5/17.
TiVo’s most watched events from Sunday’s primetime events included:
1. McKayla Maroney starts her second run in the women’s vault final.
2. Sandra Raluca Izbasa of Romania hugs McKayla Maroney after results show Sandra receiving gold
3. Canada’s Elsabeth Black lands knee first and then face down on the mat on her first vault in the women’s vault final.
4. Usain Bolt of Jamaica wins the men’s 100m in 9.63 seconds
5. Double amputee Oscar Pistorius of South Africa competes in the men’s 400m semifinal
FOX Sports lined up its broadcast pairings for the upcoming NFL season, which marks the network’s 19th straight season of coverage. This year, the company will add three new faces to the roster: former NFL head coach and Super Bowl-winning offensive coordinator Mike Martz and former NFL fullback Heath Evans (who will both serve as game analysts) as well as reporter Erin Andrews. The 2012 regular season kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 9 with doubleheader coverage of seven games. Pairings will include: Joe Buck, Troy Aikman & Pam Oliver; Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston & Tony Siragusa; Thom Brennaman, Brian Billick & Laura Okmin; Dick Stockton, John Lynch & Jennifer Hale; Chris Myers, Tim Ryan & Jaime Maggio; Sam Rosen & Heath Evans; and Ron Pitts & Mike Martz
ESPN, meanwhile, revealed its own 2012 college football assignments. This year’s teams will feature three new groupings for ABC Saturday afternoon broadcasts: Chris Spielman, Sean McDonough & Quint Kessenich; Ed Cunningham, Mike Patrick & Jeannine Edwards; as well as Danny Kanell, Bob Wischusen & Maria Taylor. Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit will return for their seventh season together on the ABC Saturday Night Football series while Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe will continue to work the Saturday ESPN College Football Primetime telecast. ESPN’s Thursday and Friday night games will team David Pollack and Samantha Steele with Rece Davis and analyst Jesse Palmer on ESPN’s Thursday night game. Carter Blackburn will move from Saturday games to call the weekly Friday series with Rod Gilmore and new sideline reporter Jemele Hill. Joe Tessitore and Matt Millen will serve as the announcers for a new package of additional Saturday night games.
Sarah Kustok joined the YES Network as its Brooklyn Nets reporter, where she will cover the team within YES’ Nets game telecasts and pre- and post-game shows, as well as Nets Magazine, other Nets programming, and on YESNetwork.com. Kustok most recently worked at Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
Dial Global and the NBC Sports Group are bringing in Erik Kuselias and Jon Stashower for the upcoming launch of NBC Sports Radio Network. Erik Kuselias has been named the host of The Erik Kuselias Radio Show which will air live, Monday-Friday, between 7p-10p. Jon Stashower will serve as morning anchor for the NBC Sports Radio National Updates which will air live Monday-Friday starting at 6a. Both will launch on Tuesday, September 4th.
NBC will run Their Finest Hour, a Tom Brokaw documentary that pays tribute to Olympics host country Great Britain on Saturday during NBC’s daytime coverage of the London Olympics which starts at 10a. The special will “explore the debt Americans owe to the British people.”
FUEL TV reports that July was a good month for the network, with ratings marking the channel’s most-watched month ever, according to Nielsen. The period was driven by three live UFC Fight Nights and three live Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship races. Overall, July 2012 was up 180% in total viewers vs. July 2011.
Golf Channel is offering a look at the legendary trio of Byron Nelson, Sam Snead and Ben Hogan, who all were born around three months apart 100 years ago. The network will commemorate the centennial on Monday, Aug. 13, which marks the 100th birthday of Ben Hogan at 9p with the premiere of the special American Triumvirate, which looks at the careers and lives of each of the three. The special is narrated by Kurt Russell.
Pac-12 Enterprises locked in an agreement with Astound for carriage of the upcoming regional network Pac-12 Bay Area to subscribers in the San Francisco area. Astound collectively serves over 325,000 subscribers in Washington, Oregon and Northern California.

Geico signed on to serve as the ninth founding partner of the Brooklyn Nets’ new Barclays Center home. The deal will hand the insurance company with naming rights to the main entrance to the venue, which will now be called the Geico Atrium, as well as logo space in the Barclays Center’s ‘street-to-seat’ signage allocation, and television-visible signage on the each side of the court.

NBC reports that Gold medal-winning gymnast Gabby Douglas is far and away the most-clicked Athlete on NBCOlympics.com. Douglas has drawn 18.27 million views and easily leads second-place Michael Phelps, who has 7.04 million. With six days remaining, the London Olympics page view total for NBC is 1.1 billion.
The CBSSports.com College Network signed the University of Virginia in order to produce and manage its official athletics site, VirginiaSports.com. Virginia returns after a five-year hiatus away from the network.
