Election 2012: BET Networks yesterday revealed its multi-platform political coverage for the 2012 elections under the network’s banner: Vote Like Your Life Depends On It. This Thursday, BET News will offer live coverage of the Republican National Convention at 930p (commercial free starting at 10p) and will also cover live the Democratic National Convention on September 4 and 6 at 930p (commercial free starting at 10p). BET News will additionally offer exclusive interviews with First Lady Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama during the network’s live DNC coverage on September 4 and 6, respectively. BET’s sister network, CENTRIC will re-air RNC and DNC coverage beginning at midnight. Furthermore, BET News will premiere the original docu-series that counts down to the 2012 election (title TBD) on October 19 and October 26 at 9p. On the digital side, BET.com will offer news on the political conventions and the 2012 election and BET.com’s dedicated elections and politics site, BET.com/Vote2012 will offer full coverage of the RNC and the DNC.
Yesterday during ABC’s Good Morning America, the 13th celebrity contestant to join Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars is Sabrina Bryan who will be paired with professional partner Louis Van Amstel. Bryan was the winner of the Viewers’ Choice: All-Stars vote. Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars premieres September 24 at 8p on ABC.
Also on yesterday’s ABC News’ Good Morning America, co-anchor Robin Roberts explained this Friday will be her last day on air before she begins an extended medical leave. Earlier this year Roberts was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). All this week, GMA will report on Roberts’ treatment, procedure and recovery process plus interview her doctors as she prepares for a bone marrow transplant.
Syfy is venturing more into Hollywood with a new six-episode competition series from the producers of Face Off. Hot Set premieres September 18 at 10p and watches as two Hollywood production designers and their teams compete in an extreme design challenge to create original movie sets inspired by the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres. Each weekly episode is one complete competition featuring new production designers competing. Ben Mankiewicz, current weekend host on Turner Classic Movies will host Hot Set which is produced by Mission Control Media.
A new nine-part series, Chasing the Dream tees up on Golf Channel starting October 2 at 10p. The series documents the stories of two professional golfers, Chris Anderson and Robbie Biershenk as they attempt to pursue their dream of competing on the PGA TOUR. Actor James Remar (Sex and the City, Dexter) narrates the series.
A take off of Bravo Media’s Top Chef series will delve into the lives of four chef’testants when Life After Top Chef debuts October 3 at 10p. The series follows Richard Blais in Atlanta, Jen Carroll in Philadelphia, Spike Mendelsohn in Washington, DC and Fabio Viviani in Los Angeles. Life After Top Chef is produced by Magical Elves for Bravo.
This fall, Here TV serves up a lineup of new and returning original series:
- A second season of political analysis series, For & Against hosted by progressive commentator Jim Morrison is now airing. Each half-hour episode of For & Against examines current headlines with a LGBT perspective.
- Just Josh is also currently airing its second season hosted by Josh Rosenzweig who offers his own spin on pop culture.
- Legends From Here debuts September 7 and presents classic interviews with Hollywood’s screen legends such as Rock Hudson, Shelley Winters and Charles Nelson Reilly among others.
- Because of an Earlier Incident debuts in October and offers an exclusive day-in-the-life look into the lifestyles of New York City artists such as Cazwell, Amanda Lepore, Bill Coleman and Marco Ovando.
- Here’s Hollywood premieres October 5 and is an original film series that examines classic Hollywood films through an LGBT lens and contextualizes movies such as Royal Wedding, My Favorite Brunette and The Last Time I Saw Paris among others for the Here TV audience.
- A second season of variety series, She’s Living for This returns in November hosted by Sherry Vine.
Halogen TV, described as a socially-conscious entertainment network, is teaming with the original action sports footwear and apparel company Vans to air Pass the Bucket which will be part of the network’s new Thursday night schedule. Produced by Offthewall.tv, Pass the Bucket offers stories of athletes and musicians who have dealt with life-changing events and are now using those experiences to help others.
The season one finale of The Newsroom on HBO ended with a series high of 2.3 million total viewers on Sunday at 10p. Combining the 10p finale episode and the encore at midnight, The Newsroom totaled 2.8 million viewers for the night. HBO’s fifth season finale of True Blood at 9p tallied 5.0 million viewers, which was down 2% from the previous season’s finale.
Programming Note: All day today, HISTORY will honor the legacy of Neil Armstrong who died over weekend with a lineup of programming that includes Failure Is Not an Option at 8a; Moonshot at 10a; Our Generation: Apollo 11: The Moon Landing at 12p; Tech Effect: Apollo 11 at 1230p; Modern Marvels: Apollo 11 at 1p; repeat of Failure Is Not an Option at 2p; and an encore of Moonshot at 4p.
Nationally syndicated broadcast program, RightThisMinute has added new markets when the program debuts its second season this fall, taking the show’s clearance to 45 stations. The daily series is from Cox Media Group, Raycom Media, E.W. Scripps Company and MagicDust Television and it identifies viral videos and the stories behind them. With two original half-hour episodes airing each weekday, RightThisMinute will also reveal its new set and production facility as well as a new graphics and music package for its second season beginning September 10. The show will debut this fall in Detroit, Denver, Indianapolis, San Diego, Tulsa, Bakersfield and Jackson, MS. RightThisMinute will return in San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix, Cleveland, Orlando, Charlotte, Baltimore, Kansas City, Cincinnati, West Palm Beach, Birmingham and Richmond among other markets.
Bounce TV will launch on FOX Television Stations (FTS) MyNetworkTV sub channels in Phoenix, Minneapolis and Orlando. FTS currently carries Bounce TV in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Baltimore and Bounce TV is the only digital over-the-air network FTS currently airs. Bounce TV is now available in 17 of the top 20 African America DMAs, 80% of African American homes and more than 60% of US TV homes.

Graphic novel Headache by Lisa Joy is being adapted into a series for FOX. The premise centers on a 23-year old woman who discovers she is Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare. Joy will write and serve as EP on the one-hour project titled Athena with Chernin Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV producing.
Monique Chenault and Alec Chenault of Macvision Entertainment inked a multi-year, overall production deal with BET Networks. The agreement allows the Chenault’s to create, develop and serve as executive producers on projects for BET and its sister network, CENTRIC. Recently the duo produced BET’s primetime Oscar special titled BET Takes Hollywood as well as a tribute to the late Whitney Houston titled BET Remembers Whitney. The Chenault’s are based in Los Angeles.
The eighth season of How I Met Your Mother on CBS has added former Saturday Night Live cast member Abby Elliott for multiple episodes. Elliott will play Janeane, a girl who is noticed by one of the gang and she might become a long-term interest for Ted (Josh Radnor). Elliott will not appear until the second half of the season in 2013. How I Met Your Mother debuts its new season on September 24.
Up in the Air actress Vera Farmiga has been cast as Norma Louise Bates in A&E Network’s upcoming scripted series Bates Motel based on Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic film Psycho. Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights) are behind the new series which explores the formative years of serial killer Norman Bates and his relationship with his mother, Norma.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: CBS spiked a win with the A18-49 viewers Friday with a 1.5/6, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, CBS’ NFL Pre-Season game won at 1.4/6 and Univision’s Por Ella Soy Eva was next at 1.2/5. Also this hour, a new edition of America’s Next Top Model on The CW debuted with a 0.4/2. The same networks were #1 and #2 during 9p as CBS’ NFL Pre-Season scored a 1.6/6 over Univision’s Abismo de Pasion at 1.4/5. Then at 10p, the NFL Pre-Season match between Chicago and the NY Giants gave CBS a clean sweep for the night at 1.6/6 followed by ABC’s 20/20 at 1.3/4.
