CBS announced it settled a dispute through arbitration with producers of ABC‘s short-lived reality show The Glass House, which the net alleged was a copy of Big Brother. “CBS will receive financial compensation as part of the settlement,” said a network statement. “The producers have admitted that one of them used confidential Big Brother manuals in the production of The Glass House, and they have expressed regret for using this material. In addition, those involved have pledged not to misappropriate CBS secrets in the future.”

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Ed Schultz is on the move again. In April, MSNBC moved The Ed Show from weekdays at 8p to weekends 5-7p. On Monday, August 26, the net shifts the show back to weekdays, this time at 5p. Chris MatthewsHardball, currently in the slot, will air one show a day instead of two, at 7p.

Ken Howard was elected the first president of SAG-AFTRA; he had served as co-president with Roberta Reardon since the unions merged in 2012. Though Howard defeated Esai Morales handily, 16,396 votes to 9,850, less than 21% of the over 165,000 guild members voted.

A Cablevision power outage in southwestern Connecticut on Sunday had so many people calling 911 that the Fairfield police department had to post a message on its Facebook page urging frantic viewers to settle down. The outage was “neither an emergency or a police related concern,” the men in blue warned anxious fans of AMC‘s Breaking Bad and WWE pay-per-view Summer Slam, adding that misuse of the system could lead to arrest. Power was restored by 11p.

BET Networks will mark the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington D.C. with live all-day coverage. Contributors will report from along the march’s route, and interview renowned civil rights activists. Ed Gordon anchors the event. 50: The March and the Movement airs Saturday, August 24 at 11a.

Destination America follows up Buying Alaska with Buying the Bayou, a real estate reality show that goes way off the beaten path to showcase quirky properties on the Gulf Coast. Why the bayou? “Buying Alaska was a breakthrough show for us, combining Americans’ love of property and our deep fascination with off-the-grid Alaska,” Marc Etkind, general manager of Destination America, tells Cynopsis. “Expanding the genre to Buying the Bayou was a natural choice – you’ve got swamps, gators, easy living and floating homes.” Alaska airs Saturdays at 9p; Bayou premieres Saturday, September 7 at 10p.

~ RETURNING SERIES ~

TV One docu-series Life After, about turning points in celebrities’ lives, returns for season five with a new batch of stars reinventing themselves and their careers. Robert Katz, exec producer from K2 Pictures Inc. tells Cynopsis, “They recognize the value of a second or third life to their careers based on their earlier success, and are applying lessons learned as they move forward. What makes them different is their commitment and motivation to keep working after their big success, to not rest on their laurels, but to pursue their ‘life afters’ with the same vigor they did in the beginning of their careers.” Series comes back Wednesday, September 11 with back-to-back eps starting at 8p.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

History greenlit a four-hour miniseries about Houdini, to star Adrian Brody (The Pianist) as the magician and Kristen Brody (House of Cards) as his wife, Bess. Production begins in the fall.

Fox has acquired a drama about a political “hactivist” forced to work for the government. Creators Paul Lovett and David Elliot wrote the big screen’s G.I. Joe.

NBC handed The Big C chief Jenny Bicks, free now that her show ended its four-season Showtime run, a put pilot commitment for a sitcom about a beached mermaid who works in a bar. 20th Century Fox will produce.

~ CASTING NEWS ~

X-Factor judge Demi Lovato will recur on season five of Glee as a friend of Rachel and Santana’s. The singer will perform on the show with eighth season American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert. Glee returns Thursday, September 26 at 9p; Lovato’s first ep airs October 3.

Nickelodeon alum Matthew Gumley (Supah Ninjas) has been added to the cast of USA‘s Divide and Conquer. Gumley will play Ben, a boy who wants his parents to leave him alone, in the comedy pilot from Universal Cable Productions.

Sarah Clarke (24) has been tapped for a lead role in AMC pilot Line of Sight, about a safety inspector who survives a mysterious crash.

Dana Davis (Franklin & Bash) and Peter Macon have been cast in Syfy pilot High Moon, about earthlings who colonize the moon only to find new life forms.

~ SYNDICATION ~

Reruns of ABC‘s The Middle start airing on ABC Family Monday, September 16, with an 8-hour marathon from 11a-7p. Series regular timeslot begins Tuesday, September 17 at 5p.

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~
