Good morning. It’s Tuesday, August 15, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

Turner Europe will launch Cartoonito, a new daily preschool programming block on its U.K. channel Cartoon Network Too on September 4 from 6a-3p.  Cartoonito will be comprised of a raft of new acquisitions and existing programs, as well as interstitials featuring animated characters that will introduce shows in both English and French.  Newly-acquired programs slated to air as part of Cartoonito includes: Animal Stories (Collingwood O’Hare, dist/Foothill Ent.), Blanche (VGI Ent.), Hi-5 (Southern Star for Kids Like Us, Nine Net. Australia), Barney (Lyric Studios, dist./HIT Ent.), Big Foot Presents: Meteor and the Might Monster Trucks (Brandissimo/Endgame Ent., dist/CCI Ent.), Ellen’s Acres (Cartoon Net. Fox and Fox Interactive Media (FIM) unveiled plans yesterday to offer both Fox feature films and TV series on a download to own basis across FIM’s gaggle of websites including the popular social networking website MySpace.com.  From October 2006 IGN.com, a video game information site, will become the first of the FIM sites to offer content for download via FIM’s Direct2Drive site.  Initially, IGN.com will offer movies such as X-Men: The Last Stand and The Omen, and TV shows including 24 and Prison Break.  Movies will cost $19.99 and TV episodes $1.99.

Movie production company Morgan Creek has tapped Jeff Sank and the brothers Heimberg, Jason and Justin, to pen a screenplay for Ace Ventura Jr., per Hollywood Reporter.  Ace Ventura Jr. will be the third movie in the series the first two were Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls starred Jim Carrey.

Tonight AOL Red and KOL, AOL’s teen and kid services respectively, will serve as the exclusive hosts of actress/singer Hilary Duff’s fashion show where her new fall collection of stuff by hilary duff will be unveiled.  Designed by Duff with her creative director Geoffry Gertz the tween targeted line is billed as “affordable couture” in apparel, accessories and home décor.  Duff will offer her own commentary during the show, which will also feature an instrumental version of her new single, Play With Fire.  I know you’re surprised about that, as you will be to know that the music video for Play With Fire premieres today on MTV’s TRL and that her new movie, Material Girls, will be released in theatres this Friday, August 18.  The stuff by hilary duff fashion show can be accessed at www.hilaryonred.com.

Nickelodeon Latin America has taken the cover off its new on-air look, which includes over sixty vignettes per feed (North, South, and Brazil), a new animated logo that animated, and the debut of Nickelodeon Latin America’s new mascot, Cubito.  At the top each show Cubito will tell viewers what is coming up next.  The on-air campaign features kids from Argentina, Mexico and Brazil being kids, talking to camera telling jokes, talking about sports, as well as presenting skits.

Public Television’s WPBT in Miami will now serve as the distributing station for Gina D’s Kids Club, the preschool series from Raven Moon Entertainment, making the series available other public TV stations around the country.  Additionally, beginning Labor Day, Monday, September 4, WPBT will strip the series, which will air at 12n as part of the PBS Kids block on both its analog and Hi-Def 2.1 digital channels, and 6p on its digital channel 2.2.  Raven Moon will continue to handle the licensing and merchandising rights for the property with WPBT benefiting from merchandise sales and other public TV stations, which airs the series, participating in toy or DVD fundraising opportunities.

MARKETING/LICENSING

AG Properties, American Greetings’ new intellectual property and outbound licensing division, has entered into a multi-year deal with Sony Wonder, making the family music label the exclusive home entertainment partner for its new Holly Hobbie & Friends direct to DVD releases.  Under the agreement, Sony Wonder will market/distribute at least two titles each year.  The first DVD, Holly Hobbie & Friends: Christmas Wishes is set to be released October 2006.  The animated holiday title features LeAnn Rimes as a character and she sings the theme song Twinkle in Her Eye, she is also composing two new songs for upcoming specials.

Captain’s log, times five that is, as William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks and Kate Mulgrew, the five actors who served as Captains on Star Trek’s USS Enterprise, have signed on with video game developer Bethesda Softworks to once again play their characters.  Each will lend their voice to their original characters for Bethesda’s new game title Star Trek: Legacy, which will be released for Xbox 360 and PC.  The game is set for release this fall, under license from CBS Consumer Products, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, which debuted with the original series in 1966.  Star Trek: Legacy is being developed by Mad Doc Software, the folks behind successful game Star Trek Armada II.

Disney Online has released Disney Cuties Crazy Daze, a new downloadable PC Game that features Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Donald.  Once a player arrives in Cutie Town their challenge is to keep all of the characters happy and paired up with their friends and active as they travel through 40 game levels, lest they cop a Cutie’Tude, which will cost the player to lose points.  Targeted to K6+, the game is available at www.DisneyGameDownloads.com for $9.99.
