Endemol, a global company specializing in multi-platform entertainment programming, is purchasing a majority portion of Authentic Entertainment in the US. Authentic Entertainment is the Los Angeles-based reality production company behind such shows as Bravo’s Flipping Out, Food Network’s Ace of Cakes and TLC’s Toddlers and Tiaras among others. Neither company released financial details concerning the deal. Authentic Entertainment was founded in 2000 by Lauren Lexton and Tom Rogan.

Luken Communications declared they are launching a new network targeting kids and baby boomers though the name of the network is being kept under wraps for now. The new network will include a combination of animated and live action shows from the Classic Media Library and other classic shows such as Richie Rich, Casper, The Lone Ranger, Mr. Magoo, Secrets of Isis, Zorro, Shazam and Lassie.

FOX announced the second season of Human Target will launch October 1 at 9p, with the plot picking up from the first season cliffhanger. The series stars Mark Valley as Chance; Jackie Earle Haley as Guerrero; Chi McBride as Winston; along with new series regular Indira Varma as billionaire philanthropist Ilsa Pucci and new cast member Janet Montgomery as Ames. Human Target is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Television.

CBS’ upcoming new season of Survivor: Nicaragua includes 20 castaways divided into two Tribes of 10 people each consisting of older competitors versus younger competitors. The Espada Tribe is made up of persons 40 years and older, including sports broadcaster, Jimmy Johnson at age 67. The La Flor Tribe is comprised of individuals aged 30 and younger. Survivor: Nicaragua premieres September 15 at 8p. Jeff Probst continues to host and the series is produced by SEG, Inc.

Planet Green is renewing its docu-series, The Fabulous Beekman Boys for a second season featuring urbanites Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell as they attempt a career and lifestyle change as “gentlemen farmers” in the country. The second season will include 10 episodes set to air the first half of 2011. World of Wonder produces the series.

The Style Network’s new docu-series, Mel B: It’s a Scary World starring pop star/TV personality and author, Mel B (formerly Scary Spice) opens September 5 at 9p directly following the season two premiere of Jerseylicious at 8p. In each of the ten episodes, cameras follow Mel B as she powers through her hectic life as a performer, wife and mom of two young girls. Studio Lambert produces the series.

Big Break, the reality series on Golf Channel is back for a 14th season this fall beginning September 29 at 9p. The new season, with 10 episodes, was shot on location last June at two top golf courses in the Dominican Republic designed by Pete Dye at the Casa de Campo Resort.

VH1 released premiere dates for new and returning series this fall:

  • Real & Chance: Legend Hunters – Two non-scientists examine strange tales of animals. Premieres September 19 at 9p.
  • Fantasia For Real – Season two opens September 19 at 10p.
  • Carmelo and LaLa – New series featuring former MTV VJ and TV personality LaLa Vazquez as she plans her wedding to NBA star Carmelo Anthony. Premieres September 19 at 1030p.
  • Don’t Forget the Lyrics! – launches September 20 at 7p.
  • Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It – Docu-series gives viewers a glimpse into the rocker’s home life. Debuts October 11 at 9p.
  • Football Wives – New series about the wives of pro football players. Premieres October 11 at 930p.
  • Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew – Season four opens October 11 at 10p.
  • Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business – Season two debuts October 24 at 1030p.

Veria announced a third season renewal for its cooking show, Fed Up! hosted by natural foods chef and previous Top Chef contestant, Andrea Beaman. The network ordered 26 new half-hour episodes in hi-def.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

PumpTop TV and THE LOOK are teaming to bring new celebrity-focused content to the gas pumps including celebrity fashion and beauty to lifestyle and fitness. THE LOOK is comprised of an online network, a daily editorial and photo site and an e-commerce store which was created by Alan Mruvka, founder of E! Entertainment Television. This week’s content on PumpTop TV is THE LOOK’s view of the red carpet activities surrounding the Warner Bros.’ film Flipped.

Serinda Swan was cast in A&E Network’s upcoming new series Breakout Kings, cites THR. Swan will play Erica Reed, an expert at discovering people who don’t want to be found then killing them. The series centers on former cons working with US marshals. The series was originally under development at FOX where it wasn’t given a series order. Last June, A&E acquired the series and ordered 13 episodes.

Casting Call: Here is a new twist in product placement, V1 Entertainment Films is auditioning advertisers and sponsors to feature prominently in its new NASCAR-themed television series, The Ride. The series is on tap as a spring 2011 network replacement series. Giancarlo Esposito (AMC’s Breaking Bad) will direct the project and Tony Sommo is penning the script. The Ride is set in the Lake Norman area of North Carolina about a group of drivers, who are friends though they come from different backgrounds. The advertising sponsors will be considered important characters in the storyline. Aspen Hughes, CEO of V1 Entertainment Films is inviting brand managers and marketing executives of food, automotive and packaged goods companies in addition to advertising agencies to contact him in this rather unusual casting call. Selected advertisers will work directly with all top decision-makers on the show’s production from the beginning. Casting Call: SEGI, Inc. behind the one-hour weekly series, Most Wanted Deadbeat Parents, is looking for an experienced on-camera personality to conduct on-location interviews with victims involved in financial child support abandonment cases. Interested candidates must be comfortable on camera working from a prepared script as well as having the ability to think on their feet in asking follow-up questions to interviewees. The show’s pilot and episodes two and three will be produced in Pennsylvania and Florida. The show is set to premiere in second quarter 2011. Friday A18-49 Analysis: Week to week, UNIV remained in the lead Friday night at 1.6/6 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. UNIV won at 8p with Mi Pecado at 1.8/8 while a tie occurred between ABC’s Wife Swap and NBC’s Friday Night Lights at 1.1/5 each. UNIV held onto #1 through 9p with Soy Tu Duena at 2.0/8 followed by ABC’s Primetime: What Would You Do? encore at 1.3/5. ABC then had a turn in first place at 10p with 20/20 at 1.3/5 and CBS’ Flashpoint was a close #2 at 1.2/4.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Universal Studios Home Entertainment (USHE) and Universal Pictures International Entertainment (UPIE) elevated Robert Read to SVP/Worldwide HD Marketing. Previously, Robert was VP/HD Strategic Marketing, Specialty Product and USHE Franchise Management. In his new role, Robert will manage Universal’s hi-def efforts globally as the worldwide strategist of all new releases, catalogue and television offerings on Blu-ray in addition to other new formats such as 3D and digital home entertainment media. Robert also continues to be based in Los Angeles and will remain in his current role as Brand Marketing head on all Focus Features and Rogue Pictures products domestically.

Miami-based online media company, Batanga, Inc. hired Olivia Maloney as VP/Sales for the Eastern region. Olivia will be headquartered out of the company’s New York office and will report directly to Rafael Urbina, Chairman/CEO. Olivia joins from AOL Latino where she served as Director/US Hispanic Sales and Solutions for AOL Advertising.

WNET.ORG named Roslyn Davis as GM for THIRTEEN; John Servidio as GM of WLIW21; and Mary Lockhart as GM of CreativeNewsGroup. All appointments are effective immediately. Most recently, Roslyn and John were Acting GMs for their respective entities while Mary replaces Andrew Schmertz in her new role following his departure to pursue other interests.

Tracie Wilson takes on the newly created position as SVP/Programming and Development, Stamford Media Center with NBC Universal Domestic TV Distribution. Tracie will supervise the unit’s three first-run nationally syndicated talk shows, The Jerry Springer Show, Maury and The Steve Wilkos Show based at the Stamford Media Center in Stamford, CT. Tracie will further act as a community liaison between the shows and the city of Stamford and she will oversee the production facility at the Stamford Media Center. Tracie reports to Robert Fitzpatrick, EVP/Business Affairs, NBC Universal Domestic TV Distribution and will also continue to work with Linda Finnell, SVP/Programming and Development, NBC Universal Domestic TV Distribution in the area of new talent and programming development.
