My view from MIPTV: Whenever I come to this particular convention (tho here it’s known as a “market”), I’m always struck by the civility and the work ethic. By “work ethic” I mean that meetings are scheduled every 30 minutes from breakfast meeting thru lunch, then post lunch thru dinner. Most people are jamming in a dozen to 16 meetings a day, every day of the market. Yes, sometimes they run late, but not too often. Everyone seems to be completely on board with the 30m rule. And then of course, there’s the civility — perhaps a nice breakfast, enjoy your coffee (you’ve heard me say before nobody, but nobody, walks around with a paper cup of coffee here), then later a good long lunch with clients or networking, but sit down, eat, enjoy, relax. Then return to the Palais for more meetings during the afternoon. Then meetings over cocktails and dinner with clients or again, networking, but always a lengthy enjoyable meal. What is amazing is that so many of the international buyers may come to a US based “market” and attempt to do the same thing, only to find meetings often run long, people run late, and the unexpected glitches can mess with a perfectly organized schedule pretty quickly. There’s something to be learned here.
