Meanwhile, Golf Channel will deliver 60 live hours of news coverage from this week’s Masters Tournament headlined by Live From the Masters, which provides more than 42 hours of live wrap-around news coverage throughout the week. In addition, Morning Drive expands to seven days, with daily guests from Augusta. The Grey Goose 19th Hole will broadcast live from Golf Channel’s Orlando studios on Wednesday at 8p and on Monday at 7p.
Keeping with the theme, Sirius XM Radio announced that it will offer subscribers nationwide live hole-by-hole coverage of the 2012 Masters Tournament from Thursday through Sunday on the SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio channel. John Maginnes will host a special preview show, The Masters Today, Thursday and Friday starting at 11a and Saturday and Sunday at noon.
Sunday night’s Connecticut/Notre Dame NCAA women’s basketball National Semifinal game delivered a 1.8 overnight rating for ESPN, for a 6% jump over last year’s first semifinal matchup between Texas A&M/Baylor. Hartford was the highest-rated market for both semifinal games, delivering a 17.8 metered market rating for the UConn/N.D. matchup and a 7.5 for the Stanford/Baylor game. The second National Semifinal game between Stanford and Baylor delivered a 2.2 overnight rating, matching last year’s UConn/Notre Dame semifinal.
Universal Sports Network has locked down multi-year distribution agreements with BendBroadband and Wave Broadband that will deliver subscribers in West Coast markets including San Francisco; Sacramento, CA; Rocklin, CA; Seattle; Portland, OR; and Bend, OR. In addition, subscribers of Local Tel in Spokane will also get the network under a new agreement with the distributor.
WWE announced that Sunday’s WrestleMania XXVIII set records. The event drew a sellout crowd of 78,363 fans from all 50 states and 36 countries to become Sun Life Stadium’s largest attended event and highest grossing entertainment event in history with $8.9 million. That figure also scored as the highest grossing live event in WWE history. WrestleMania XXIX will take place on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
An NCAA task force is looking at turning over the majority of oversight of bowls to conferences themselves, according to CBS Sports. Documents obtained by their site show that the NCAA Postseason Task Force would “essentially transfer the legal responsibility of running the postseason to the commissioners and their leagues.” If the rule moves forward, that means the power to decide the number of bowls and minimum qualification standards would then rest with those conferences.
Could the Jets be looking at a return to HBO’s Hard Knocks? Multiple reports, including ESPN, state that the team is mulling another run on the series if they receive an invitation. With Tim Tebow now a teammate, a revisit could draw national interest. Johnson said there have been informal talks with HBO, but he declined to speculate on an outcome.
Meredith Vieira stopped by her old stomping grounds at Today to announce that she will join NBC’s network coverage of the Summer Olympics in London.
ESPN signed off on a new deal with the Australian Football League (AFL) to bring viewers exclusive live television coverage of the AFL Premiership in the UK and Republic of Ireland, Canada, and sub-saharan Africa. The company has also secured co-exclusive live television rights in the Caribbean and Israel. The deal will run for the next three seasons, including the current season. At least one live match per week will be aired on ESPN channels throughout the season across all these territories

.CBS rejected a 30-second spot for upcoming 20th Century Fox movie The Three Stooges, according to Deadline. The studio reportedly submitted the commercial to air during last night’s NCAA Basketball title game. Although Fox paid for the spot, the company didn’t have enough time to pull together another one for the film and the ad ended up being scratched “due to the making light of prescription drug ads.”
Sportsman Channel announced that as part of the network’s annual month-long bass fishing programming blitz, “Attack of the Bass,” the channel is giving viewers the chance to win a $500 Sportsman’s Warehouse gift card by watching for on-air clues to see where the bass will strike that week.
