Travel Channel plans to roll out a cross-platform programming event for the summer dubbed Destination Summer with the rollout of seven new original series. The network will jumpstart the programming strategy May 20 with episodes of hits such as Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and Bizarre Foods America, and then lead into its seven new series for the summer including Mega Mansions, Xtreme Waterparks, Insane Coaster Wars, RV Kings, Suite Choice, American Originals, and All You Can Meat. The network will also include related content online at TravelChannel.com.

Media agency ZenithOptimedia introduced a new software toolset and a brand repositioning for the company to underscore its approach to measuring ROI in real-time across channels. The company’s new brand positioning tag line will be “Live ROI,” and the agency will rely on new software, databases and analytics tools to track ROI for clients.

A&E said it’ll return with the second season of its reality series Monster-in-Laws on May 28. The show tracks real-life interactions between spouses and challenging in-laws, with relationship experts brought in to help solve the problems.

Tribune Company bolstered its local media resources via a strategic investment in Journatic, which provides local content to both media companies and advertisers. The companies said Journatic will use the funds to service publishers, advertisers and agencies, while Tribune will be able to deliver more localized material for its readers.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

Animal Planet inked a licensing deal with Disney-ABC Domestic Television for three Disneynature films – Oceans, African Cats and The Crimson Wing. All three are network TV premieres. Oceans will debut in the third quarter of 2012, The Crimson Wing in the fourth quarter of 2012, and African Cats in the third quarter of 2013.

U.S.-based Spanish-language network Estrella TV is going global and will now offer its content library of more 6,000 hours of original entertainment programming to all worldwide platforms. Also, the network has appointed Andy Weir as Senior VP Content Distribution to head up the new division. Weir joins from content distribution company Northstar Media.

As she looks for a career reboot, Lindsay Lohan has been cast as Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime Original Movie Liz & Dick, a biopic of the movie star’s romance with Richard Burton. Shooting begins in June.

Sonar Entertainment and James Patterson Entertainment have paired up to produce the best-selling author’s series Private for TV. Patterson will serve as Executive Producer. John McLaughlin, the scribe who penned the script for Black Swan, is writing the first two-hour episode about a former CIA agent who runs an investigation firm.

Online news entertainment network Cheer Channel has begun production on reality series Cheer Moms: No Time for Tears and is targeting cable distribution for the show that follows six cheer moms with cheerleader daughters. Cheer Channel is hoping the success of shows like Toddlers and Tiaras and Dance Moms will boost its series.

Friday A18-49 Analysis:  Univision held a strong lead in Friday night ratings with a 1.7/5 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen .  ABC and NBC tied for second place, both at a 1.2/4. Univision gained audience throughout the night with Familiar con Suerte at 8p landing at 1.4/5, followed by Abismo de Pasion with a 1.7/5, topped by Que No Podia Amar with an 1.8/6. NBC was strong at 9p with Grimm’s 1.4/4 outing, and Dateline’s 10 p 1.4/4 showing. ABC delivered steady numbers across the board: Shark Tank’s repeat pulled in with a 1.2/4 at 8p, Primetime: What Would You Do? served up a 1.3/4, and 20/20 finished the night with a 1.2/4.

REELZCHANNEL named Emmy Award-winning producer Andy Epstein Supervising Producer of Hollywood Dailies, the network’s daily half-hour show on entertainment and celebrity news. Epstein brings more than 30 years of experience to the post, having worked on shows such as The Dr. Phil Show and E! News Daily.
 
Research shop Insight Strategy Group named Mia Scelsi Associate Director of Operations and Andi Glick Senior Project Manager. Also, the firm hired Jillian Rodriguez for the new post of Creative Writer. Insight’s research is targeted for brands and is focused on consumer experiences.

Creative agency Arnold Worldwide hired Elaine Rizzo in a new role as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and HR/Talent Business Partner for the New York office. Arnold Worldwide is involved in efforts with the 4As to help bring top talent to the ad industry.

Ad agency Ignited promoted Los Angeles-based executives Robb Hittner, Terri Simon and Jackie Stasi to Senior Vice President roles. They will continue to report to the agency’s Chief Operating Officer Bill Rosenthal. Hittner oversees client services, Simon handles talent and organizational development and Stasi’s purview is media.

KTEN Media in Denison, TX hired Tom Crespo as News Director. He will also anchor the Monday through Friday evening newscasts.
