Nickelodeon has launched Nick Mobile on select Sprint multimedia phones.  Nick Mobile offers a range of video clips from Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. shows, vignettes and music videos, all of which will be refreshed weekly.  Nick Jr. content will include about two-minute long clips from shows including Dora the Explorer, Blue’s Clues, The Backyardigans, LazyTown and the new series, The Wonder Pets!  Nickelodeon content will include SpongeBob SquarePants, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, The X’s, Avatar and Catscratch, as well as TEENick content such as behind-the-scenes clips from Zoey 101, Unfabulous and Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.

CNET has announced plans to launch CNET TV, a new video-on-demand service that will offer a selection of its video content for distribution on TV and online through partnerships with Cox Communications Inc., TiVo Inc., and TVN Entertainment, as well as on CNET in the latter half of the year.  CNET TV will offer its original video content including franchises such as Insider Secrets, Weekend Project, and First Look from the Labs, and will also feature special reports and coverage of events like the Consumer Electronics Show; user created videos, and regularly scheduled consumer news and trend programming.  Additionally, interactive tools will let users to create shareable custom play lists, and click to buy products or read full reviews.  The VOD partnerships follow a successful trial run with TiVo.

Nintendo releases Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day for Nintendo DS this week. The game is designed to keep the minds of players active with mental challenges using Nintendo DS specific features including voice-command and touch-screen abilities.  While its for gamers of all ages, it’s also being targeted to older adults that may have never played video games before.  Brain Age provides cognitive ability challenges including word memorization, counting and sudoko puzzles.  The game is presented as an important component of an active lifestyle, which of course also includes a good regular mental workout.  In Japan the game is being used with elderly people as a way to keep their brains challenged and active.  Let’s hope they are right … lots of us are counting on it (www.brainage.com).

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Paramount Pictures has shifted the release of the Nickelodeon Movies and O Entertainment CG animated movie Barnyard up a few months to July, 28, 2006.  Written and directed by Steve Oedekerk (Jimmy Neutron), Barnyard is a comedy that looks at life when the farmer isn’t looking.  The story revolves around Otis (voiced by Kevin James), a happy-go-lucky party cow that likes to pull one over on humans and isn’t concerned about keeping the farm animals human-like abilities under wraps.  Other voices include Sam Elliott as Otis’ dad, and Danny GIover as the wild old mule.

Fox Soccer Channel will debut FC Fox, a new weekly series on Friday, April 21 at 7:30p.  Targeted to P12-18, FC Fox will feature stories about both American youth and amateur soccer.  The series will be hosted by Ethan Zohn, the winner of CBS’ Survivor: Africa who is also the co-founder of Grassroot Soccer, and will include include expert tips on game-play and techniques from Heather Mitts from the US Women’s National Team, and Christopher Sullivan, formerly of the US Men’s National Team.
