Cynopsis: Sports – 2013 Cynopsis: Sports Media Awards
04.17.13

Good afternoon, it’s still Wednesday, April 17, 2013, and this is a special Cynopsis: Sports Media Awards edition detailing today’s 2013 Cynopsis: Sports Media Awards, which took place this morning at the Yale Club in Manhattan.

A giant thank you to everyone who entered, judged, attended and presented at this celebration, which kicked off at 8am this morning – not that the early hour stopped anyone from table-hopping and networking at every opportunity. Attendees literally packed the house to see talent such as ESPN’s Chris Berman, NBC Sports’ Dan Hicks, HBO Sports’ Harold Lederman, MLB Network’s Lauren Shehadi, CBS Sports Network’s Brent Stover, NBC Olympics President Gary Zenkel, Rob King, Senior Vice President of Content for ESPN Digital & Print Media, and President of Marketing at CSE Adam Zimmerman.

With categories that spanned from regional to national, from marketing to digital, and from documentaries to live events, NBC Sports walked away with the most trophies in hand, nabbing five, with ESPN right behind at four. Other multiple winners included FOX Sports, CBS Sports, Turner Sports, and CSE.

The Awards were anchored, of course, by honoring four executives who have changed the way their sports entities connect with fans around the country. Scott Blackmun, CEO of the United States Olympic Committee, received the Vision Award as Sports Executive of the Year. John Kosner, ESPN Executive VP & GM of Digital and Print Media, received the Award of Distinction as the Sports Network Executive of the Year, and Scott McCune, VP of Global Partnerships at the Coca-Cola Company, was the recipient of the first-ever Gem Award, which pays tribute to the Consumer Brand of the Year. In addition, Steve Bornstein, President and CEO of the NFL Network and Executive VP of Media for the NFL, was this year’s Legacy Award winner, recognizing a career that changed sports media.
