According to Nielsen Media Research, the Reverend Jesse Jackson is backing up the company’s new and controversial Local People Meters (LPMs). Rev. He noted that in the markets where LPMs had begun, “has substantially increased the number of African American and Latino families who are measured in these local markets.”

Carmen Electra has been signed to host Bravo‘s upcoming original reality series Manhunt: The Search for America’s Most Gorgeous Male Model. Bravo has also announced two judges for the show – Bruce Hulse and Marisa Miller. Manhunt premieres October 12 at 10p.
Ray Liotta will star in a pilot for NBC called Criminal Behavior. The show is a little bit different than the usual crime drama in that it begins before the crime has been committed, and Liotta’s character, an LA detective who tracks and follows the bad guys around, attempting to stop criminal mischief before it happens. The project will be produced by John Davis and writer Shane Salerno.
Mark Burnett will team up with Yahoo! to bring new revenue to his productions, beginning with The Apprentice. A Yahoo-hosted site will provide additional footage from the show, not seen on television, provide show updates, tour of the living space for the contestants, and other added content. It is designed to bring in new advertisers, not drive viewership necessarily to the show, the main directive for the NBC program site. According to Variety, Yahoo will also integrate The Apprentice into its other sites as it assists in signing up new recruits, etc. Thus far, advertisers to the site include Staples and Sony.

The History Channelpresents This Day in History: 1850: After exploding in population, California is accepted into the Union as the 31st state in record time, without ever passing through territorial status. The region became part of the United States by cession from Mexico in the 1848 treaty that ended the Mexican War. Soon afterward, the “forty-niners” flooded into the state in search of gold, and California quickly reached the 60,000 inhabitants necessary for a petition of statehood. It also helped California’s cause that northern representatives in the Congress, consumed by the question of slavery’s extension to Western territories, were eager to admit another free state.
