~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & COVERAGE ~

Yesterday, executive producer Mark Burnett’s VIMBY (Video in My Backyard) partnered with Youtoo.com to launch Youtoo TV, the first social TV network.  Viewers can create 15-second videos called “Fame Spots” that are potentially watched by 15 million people.  Youtoo has a goal of initially putting 500 people on TV per day.  Youtoo TV also airs encores of The X Files, Batman and Green Hornet and various new web series. During certain shows, viewers can also participate in question/answer sessions hosted by Miss USA Shandi Finnessey, former American Idol contestant Mikalah Gordon, actor Brian Kimmet and Dean Haglund.

As of today, Outdoor Channel will be carried on RCN systems in cities throughout the Northeast, Midwest and South, adding 90,000 RCN subscribers to the network’s distribution.  RCN subscribers in New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston and Washington, D.C. can now watch Outdoor Channel in both standard-def and hi-def.

The Fremantle Corporation holds the international distribution rights for the classic action/adventure series Movin’ On starring Claude Akins as truck driver Sunny Pruitt and Frank Converse as his college-educated co-driver Will Chandler.  Movin’ On has 44 one-hour episodes and is available in many different languages.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Broadway star Sutton Foster nabbed the lead role in ABC Family’s pilot Bunheads from Amy Sherman-Palladino.  Foster will play Michelle, a Las Vegas showgirl who on the fly marries a man and moves to his small town and takes an uncomfortable job at her new mother-in-law’s dance school.  Foster is presently starring in the revival of Anything Goes that earned her a Tony Award.

Former Lost and FlashForward star Sonya Walger landed a series regular role on USA Network’s upcoming Common Law.  Walger will co-star as Dr. Emma Ryan, a smart and attractive psychiatrist who works with quarrelsome homicide detectives played by Warren Kole and Michael Ealy.  Production on Common Law from CBS Television Studios begins next month in New Orleans for a 2012 premiere on USA Network.

ABC is adding to the cast of its new comedy Suburgatory by tapping Gillian Vigman (Hangover) to play Jill Werner who likes things and her husband her way.

Stand-up comedian Dane Cook forged a new talent deal with NBC and he is also developing a half-hour comedy for next season’s lineup. Details are sketchy at this point.  Cook recently appeared on CBS’ Hawaii Five-O.

Part of NBCUniversal, ExerciseTV tapped four celebrities for future projects:
Golden Gloves champ and trainer on The Biggest Loser, Cara Castronuova hosts the tentatively named 20 lb. Knockdown.

  • Fernanda Rocha, featured on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Orange County becomes host of Brazil Fit Workout.
  • Agostina Laneri, the fitness sidekick of Jackie Warner will host the tentatively titled Agostina’s Beginners Bootcamp.
  • Benjamin Allen, dancer and choreographer also gets his own show.

Production begins on all four shows in October and all are slated to premiere on ExerciseTV in early 2012.

Note on new and returning Syndicated Shows:
Cynopsis
does not report on the premiere episodes or premiere week results of new and returning syndication shows, but rather we pick up on the reporting via our syndication charts when the show has been on the air for a couple of weeks.  At that point, the field has leveled a bit because the halo effect of marketing and promotions have settled and the strength of the rating is a better reflection of the show itself, not the promotion.  This has been a Cynopsis policy for more than a dozen years.  Look for lists of new syndicated show results in the coming weeks.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX captured the top spot Tuesday with a 3.7/10 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  CBS did best at 8p with NCIS at 4.2/12, FOX’s Glee was #2 at 3.7/10 and coming in third was Univision’s Teresa at 2.3/7.  FOX took over the lead at 9p with a combination of sitcoms New Girl and Raising Hope at an average of 3.7/9 though a small notch ahead of second place CBS with NCIS: Los Angeles at 3.6/9 and in third was ABC’s Dancing with the Stars Results show at 2.9/7. At 10p, CBS was back in winner’s seat with new series Unforgettable at 2.5/7 followed by NBC’s Parenthood at 2.2/6 and ABC’s Body of Proof at 1.8/5.
