Note on new and returning Syndicated Shows:
Cynopsis does not report on the premiere episodes or premiere week results of new and returning syndication shows, but rather we pick up on the reporting via our syndication charts when the show has been on the air for a couple of weeks. At that point, the field has leveled a bit because the halo effect of marketing and promotions have settled and the strength of the rating is a better reflection of the show itself, not the promotion. This has been a Cynopsis policy for more than a dozen years. Look for lists of new syndicated show results in the coming weeks.

Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia Question: What two people wrote the theme song to the Tonight Show? Johnny Carson and Paul Anka, sort of. The music is a reworking of Anka’s Toot Sweet. Anka then added lyrics and the song was called “It’s Really Love,” recorded by Annette Funicello. Carson re-wrote the lyrics, which were never used, and received half the royalties and credit for the song. Kudos to: Gary A. Stark-WEWS-TV/Cleveland; Nanette Anderson-MyDiscovery/Silver Spring, MD; David Burke-Quad-City Times/Davenport, IA; Keith Paxton-KDFW KDFI/Dallas; John Kukla-KDFW/Dallas; Paul Gluck-Magnetic North Media/Ardmore, PA; Lewis Cosby/ Eastern Knoxville; Paul Blutter-General American Group, Inc./Northridge, CA; Susan Nessanbaum-Goldberg-M and S Entertainment,Inc./LA; Don Surath-CBS Media Solutions/San Francisco; Jeff Mirkin-Family Game Night/Hollywood; Arnie Meissner/Lake Balboa, CA
Today’s Trivia Question: What show was allowed to stay on despite poor ratings because they added a monkey? (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.)
