Good morning. It’s Thursday, September 11, 2008, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Tonight’s Premiere:
FOX: Hole in the Wall at 8p

Talkshow with Spike Feresten SEASON 3 PREMIERE! This Saturday Midnight on FOX

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Food Network will debut The Chef Jeff Project on October 12 at 10p, offering viewers a new type of reality cooking show. Under the tutelage of Chef Jeff Henderson, a former prison inmate now executive chef, six troubled young adults will learn how to cook and help Jeff run his new Los Angeles-based catering company. Each episode follows Jeff as he teaches these young adults the ins and outs of food and life skills.

Tuesday’s second season conclusion of Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing at 10p pulled in 949,000 A18-49 viewers and 1.27 million total viewers.

Also on Tuesday, ABC Family polished off the last episode of its freshman midseason series, The Secret Life of the American Teenager at 8p, delivering 1.3 million W18-34 viewers, 1.7 million A18-34 viewers, 3.0 million P12-34 viewers and 4.5 million total viewers. Twelve new episodes of the series will return to ABC Family next January.

Bravo is allowing fans to weigh in on their two favorite model wannabes for the second season of Make Me A Supermodel. Now through September 24, viewers can visit www.BravoTV.com and vote for one male and one female who will be included in the competition vying for $100,000 and the opportunity to launch a modeling career. The series makes its debut during first quarter 2009. Tiger Aspect Productions, a division of IMG Media produces.

Yesterday ABC announced it cut 15-20 positions at its broadcast operations and engineering division in New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., reports B&C. Three of the positions were based at ABC News in D.C., tied presumably to the network’s recent move of Nightline’s production operations to New York.

In recognition of the anniversary of 9/11, you can plan on the broadcast and cable news networks to cover news related to 9/11.  Additionally, here are some special programs airing today:

History:
8a/2p: World Trade Center: Rise and Fall of an American Icon
10a/4p: Countdown to Ground Zero
12p/6p: The Day the Towers Fell
8p/12a: The Man Who Predicted 9/11
9p/1a: 102 Minutes that Changed America/I Witnesses to 9/11 (2 hours total – Witness show starts at 10:41)

MSNBC:
8:45a:  9/11: Seven Years Later
10p: 9/11: As it Happened (repeats at 12m)

Filmmakers of the movie Borat got a reprieve yesterday as a New York judge threw out the lawsuits against them by a driving instructor and two etiquette school teachers, according to a CNN report. The threesome claimed the Borat filmmakers took advantage of them in the 2006 docu-style movie; however, the judge said all three signed releases and accepted money to appear in the film which meant the filmmakers could not be held for liability.

KUQI/Corpus Christi, a FOX affiliate, secured Petry Media Corporation’s Blair Television as its national advertising sales representative. KUQI is owned by High Maintenance Broadcasting, LLC.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

TBS gave a green light to season three of The Bill Engvall Show. Produced by TBS, ten new episodes were ordered to start summer 2009.

Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, the midseason drama series for FOX and produced by 20th TV, closed down production for two weeks to work on scripts, per THR. After finishing the third episode, creator/executive producer Whedon decided the upcoming scripts needed time for rewrites. Production is expected to begin again September 25.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: In a sign that traditional publishing relationships are no longer working, The Star-Ledger of Newark, NJ went to press yesterday carrying no stories from The Associated Press. (Some AP stories can be seen on the paper’s site nj.com, but none referenced to the Star-Ledger.) The move is being seen as either a protest or an honest effort to live without the service as The AP is preparing to introduce a new rate schedule next year that has drawn cancellation notices from a handful of smaller papers across the country. It’s interesting news when taken with yesterday’s announcement from online news site Politico, which introduced a reverse-syndication model that actually pays publishers for running its ad-supported stories. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORYIn an address to the Australian National Press Club, Mark Scott, Managing Director/ABC (Australia) called for a commercial-free Kid’s channel with a programming line-up of at least 50% Australian content.  Such a channel would be in addition to ABC 1 and ABC 2.  Speaking about the possible kid channel Scott said, “If we are concerned about the impact fast food advertising on television is having on our children, doesn’t it make sense to give parents the choice of a completely commercial free children’s channel, with high quality, Australian content.”  The discussion was part of a bigger plan Scott laid out as the ABC’s priorities that include increasing the amount of digital multimedia and multiplatform content as Australia moves towards the digital switchover.  In addition to a kids channel, ABC suggests launching a public affairs channel, the description of which kind of sounds like C-Span and CNN rolled together, available to Australian audiences. Full edition: CYN KIDS.

CYNOPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: RTL Group’s FremantleMedia acquired a 19.99% equity stake in Australia’s Beyond International TV producer/content distributor.  The latter is presently launching an LA-based office in addition to its existing American offices San Francisco and Bethesda, MD.  The Sydney-based Beyond is the producer behind shows such as What’s Good For You, Beyond Tomorrow, Mythbusters and other TV content as well as feature films including Strictly Ballroom and A Good Woman.  Full edition: CYN INTERNATIONAL.
