Good morning. It’s Thursday, October 5, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
NBC’s Kidnapped may be the first to go out the big door marked Back Nine Not Picked Up, the door some less generous have nicknamed Cancelled. According to B&C, production on the show will shut down after the 13th episode is completed, and the storyline will be neatly tied up. Other reports indicate the network has not made a final decision on the show. In any case, NBC is committed to airing at least the first 13, either during the regular season or the summer. The show currently airs in a tough neighborhood – Wednesdays at 10p, opposite CSI: NY and The Nine.
Tonight’s Premieres:
Comedy Central: Drawn Together: Freaks & Greeks at 1030p
Showtime: White Boyz in the Hood at 11p
Tonight’s Finale:
MTV: Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘n Out at 10p, Pimp My Ride at 1030p
Fox will make a couple of programming changes. Once the World Series has ended in a win for … never mind, I’m not fall into that trap … two of the network’s shows will return in new time periods. Justice will move from Wednesdays at 9p to Monday at 9p as of October 23, using Prison Break as its new lead-in. Vanished goes from Mondays at 9p to Fridays at 8p on October 27. No official word on what will slide in on Wednesdays at 9, tho American Idol Results show is scheduled there in January.
CBS has ordered the back nine of The Unit, its TUesday night 9p series. For its most recent outing, The Unit earned a 4.1/11 A18-49 and 13.2 million total viewers.
Variety reports The CW is considering a couple of major scheduling shifts, namely flipping the Monday and Sunday night schedules thereby airing 7th Heaven and Runaway on Sunday, and the current Sunday night comedy block on Monday. Nothing official from The CW.
NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution has sold the FOX medical drama House, for national off-net syndication, to stations in more than 80% of the U.S. for weekend double runs beginning fall 2008. House will be seen on numerous station groups including Fox, CBS, Tribune, Sinclair and Clear Channel, and specifically on the stations WNYW/New York, KTTV/Los Angeles, WFLD/Chicago, KPIX/San Francisco and WXIN/Indianapolis. House is produced by NBC Universal Television Studio.
E!’s House of Carters’ sneak peek last Sunday at 1030p, had 1.04 million total viewers, and earned a 0.5 rating in the key A18-49 demo, representing an 11% increase over the same time period in third quarter 2003.
White Boyz in The Hood, a new stand-up comedy series featuring white comedians performing in front of urban audiences, is set to debut on SHOWTIME October 5 at 11p. This 10-episode series is a partnership between Madman Entertainment, Lionsgate and Showtime Networks, Inc. A weekly half-hour episode will air until the December 7 finale.
MGM Networks and Chellomedia (a division of Liberty Global, Inc.) will launch a joint 50/50 venture, The MGM Channel Central Europe starting October 26 with more than 1.5 million cable and satellite (DTH) subscribers in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania, and will be headquartered in Munich. The channel will feature MGM film library selections, including Never Say Never Again, The Magnificent Seven, Robocop, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, A Bridge Too Far and Three Amigos.
The premiere episode of I Pity The Fool, TV Land’s original series starring Mr. T., will air tonight on Yahoo! TV one week prior to its on-air debut on TV Land October 11 at 10p. The complete episode will be available on Yahoo! TV for six days. Yahoo! will also feature exclusive footage from the series and video of two of Mr. T’s Rules For Fools. Additionally, TV Land.com users will have several interactive choices starting October 11. For example, they can send a Mr. T-Mail – video e-cards for birthdays, and participate in a live video chat with Mr. T at 1030p on October 11.

MTV has greenlit a new sketch comedy series called Human Giant scheduled to debut in first quarter next year. Human Giant is a collection of short comedic films that was first seen online as well as at the New York comedy club Upright Citizens Brigade.
TBS has ordered up a pilot script for new comedy project, so far untitled, starring Bill Engvall, who you may recognize as one of the Blue Collar guys. Engvall will also co-write the pilot script, together with Michael Leeson.
The CW has ordered a script based loosely on the home and professional lives of soap opera stars, Kelly Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos, who met on the set of ABC’s daytimer All My Children. The half hour comedy project does not have a title yet.
Cable network G4 has ordered up a pilot script on an untitled comedy project from Monkey Wrangler Prods. The premise is about two young video game programmers, and what happens when the company where they’ve spent their entire careers is bought by a guy from Texas who knows nothing about video games, says Hollywood Reporter.
Two new projects for Fox, both from Original Films and Sony Pictures TV. Fox has ordered a pilot script of Macho Steve, a “retrosexual” who moves to LA, described as the “metrosexual” capital of the world. Think Tank, which received a put pilot commitment, is about a bunch of geniuses brought together by a crazy mega-billionaire who wants his band of mensa grads to solve all the world’s problems.

EMAILS TO THE EDITOR — one small comment from your friendly publisher, and this reader speaks out. She responds to this Anna Nicole Smith comment in yesterday’s edition: “Do you care who the father of Nicole Smith’s baby is? Me neither.”
IN RE: ANNA NICOLE SMITH
How ugly… cut her a bit of slack… she gave birth and her son died in front of her 3 days later… (grief is real no matter who you are).
My respect of you just went down a notch.
She lives in the celebrity world and yes the tabloid part of her life is a bit much – but that is what celebrities do – live to entertain and we the normal common boring life folk eat it up – real life soap operas – escapism. The first reality programs are the lives of the stars.. .and HELLO!!! isn’t your job about TV and the world of escapism and what the celebrities do??
