~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Production commenced yesterday on ABC Family’s drama series pilot Socio starring Avan Jogia, Maddie Hasson, Kylie Bunbury, Kimberly Quinn and Denise Richards.  Recently, Sam Robards was added to the cast along with Kathy Najimy and Grey Damon as guest stars.  Filming in New York, the drama follows Danny (Jogia) who has returned to town after serving five years in prison for murdering his aunt when he was 11.  Danny admits his guilt and returns to a hostile environment and a media firestorm.  He does reconnect with his former best friends Jo (Hasson) and Lacey (Bunbury) but when another student is murdered, suspicion falls on Danny and people question if he is a serial slayer, a socio, or a victim with a shocking secret.  Richards will play Danny’s mother, Karen; Robards plays Kyle, the town sheriff and Jo’s father; and Quinn plays Kyle’s wife.  Gavin Polone serves as EP of the pilot which is produced by Prodco, Inc.

HBO is working with Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films on an untitled one-hour drama about a rich academic who has become the first black president of a prestigious liberal arts college.  The new president and his family are put into the national spotlight, forcing them to present an ideal public image while struggling with personal battles and dark secrets.  Thomas Bradshaw is involved to write and be co-EP along with Winfrey and Harpo’s Kate Forte who will serve as EPs.

Showtime’s dramedy Nurse Jackie tapped Adam Ferrera (Rescue Me) for the fifth season to play a love interest of Nurse Jackie (Edie Falco).  Ferrera’s character is an NYPD officer and will recur throughout the season.  Morris Chestnut also joins the series playing a former Army medic who is hired as a trauma doctor.  Showtime will premiere the fifth season of Nurse Jackie in early 2013.
