YouTube announced nominees for its first YouTube Music Awards yesterday, and the list includes both big names like Miley Cyrus as well as the site’s organic artists. The category with YT written all over it, Response of the Year – best fan remix, parody or response video boasts the most homegrown acts. The show is bumping up the hype by encouraging fans to vote on www.youtube.com/musicawards or simply by sharing YTMA nominee’s videos. The show will air live on Nov. 3 in New York City.
Maker Studios is official developing it’s off-YouTube strategy, starting with new websites for its hits Polaris and Epic Rap Battles of History. VideoInk reports the websites will use a video player from its recently acquired Blip. The sites will feature video, forums and merchandise for the web and mobile platforms. Maker Studios says they are going to roll out more sites for its creators in the future.
Walmart’s streaming service VUDU is quick to follow Netflix’s latest move, and will also start offering extras for its content. Its first set of extras comes courtesy of Sony Pictures, which is adding features to its movie District 9 for VUDU consumers. Besides deleted scenes, the extras include a more enhanced scene search menu and users can share clips from the movie.
BBC.com announced it will start including video clips-dubbed #BBCTrending-within paid tweets this fall as part of Twitter’s Amplify. Mashable reports the videos will be distributed to its current 4.8 million followers through @BBCWorld. In other words: The videos will be completely original for Twitter. Compared to the Viacom and Turner Broadcasting Amplify deal, which previously the Twitter videos on TV.
SnakBlox is unveiling a new social media ROI platform after last week’s success when it was used to power a survey supporting a study conducted by Esquire and NBC News that was featured on episodes of “The Today Show” and “The Nightly News with Brian Williams.” CEO Nik Pai discussed the survey, The New American Center, with Cynopsis, stating “SnakBlox enhanced [the survey’s] ROI, and we’ve seen higher engagement with this survey than any other app that we have powered. With over six million questions answered and nearly 190,000 people taking the poll in less than 48 hours.”
ShowMobile announced its first made-for-mobile series, called HitStreak, yesterday. The series follows four YouTube stars and their music as they try to save Miami’s recording studio HitStreak. The show can be viewed on the ShowMobile app available for Apple devices.
Just because you’re not on traditional TV, doesn’t mean you don’t have an audience. YouTube celebrity Joey Graceffa with more than two million followers should know this by now. Yet, in a recent video rant on his channel about his car being towed, little did he know the one who called the towers on him was the comedian Nate Clarke who has his own YouTube channel. Clarke took to his own channel to set Graceffa straight with his hilarious response video. The lesson? YouTube is the biggest small community so careful what you broadcast.

Nissan Motors is ending TV viewer’s one-sided conversations with characters while watching a show in its online ad to promote the latest car model. The New York Times reports the Infiniti Deja View campaign uses voice recognition technology that is activated when viewers submit their phone number before they watch the 20 minute short-film commercial. The characters in the commercial calls the viewer, and then the plot changes based on decisions made by the viewer. The campaign was created by ad agency Campfire, and is estimated to cost $2 million.

A&E and Red Interactive introduced its Duck Dynasty: Battle of the Beards mobile game yesterday. The game is available only in the app store, and challenges fans of the show to micro games like duck hunts, chili eating or blowing up beaver dams. The goal is to get the longest beard, which is achieved when a player competes in more challenges.
As anticipated, Aereo added its first Android app to the GooglePlay store yesterday. The controversial TV streaming app is only available in seven markets for Aereo account owners on their mobile devices including Roku boxes. CNET reports that Aereo is expected to debut in Detroit next week.
NBCUniversal is leading the pack in TV Everywhere accessibility according to a new study from IHS Inc. NBCU offers 83 percent of its TV content to Pay-TV subscriber’s smartphones, tablets and other seconds screens. HBO and Epix supply the most TVE than any other cable network, although Showtime is the only one that offers live linear streaming. The report claims Discovery is the next to hop on the TVE wagon.

The channel has taken in almost 1.5 million views, and has 14,000 subscribers, and featured past interviews from the likes of Ray Charles and the Beastie Boys.
