The American Idol host/entrepreneur started as co-host of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Clark in 2005; last year, after Clark’s passing Seacrest became the sole host, drawing 22.6 million viewers. “It’s very difficult to take over a franchise created by an icon and grow it,” said Allen Shapiro, CEO of Dick Clark Productions, announcing the multi-year pact. “Ryan has done just that.”

TLC‘s home decor competition show, Four Houses, shot a Halloween episode that gave the ITV Studios crew the creeps. “When we broke for lunch at the undertaker’s home, the only place we had to eat was on a dining table that was covered with body parts, bugs and rubber poop,” exec producer Mitchell Rosenbaum tells Cynopsis. “Worked wonders for everyone’s appetite.”  “Tricks and Treats” ep airs Monday, October 28 at 7p.

Season three of Masterpiece‘s Sherlock returns to PBS on Sunday, January 19 at 10p. “The genius Sherlock team has done it again,” raved Masterpiece exec producer Rebecca Eaton. “These new episodes are wildly imaginative.” The drama follows Downton Abbey, which returns for its fourth season on Sunday, January 5 at 9p.

TMZ Live has been renewed by Fox Television Stations through the 2016-2017 season. The gossip news show, an extension of the TMZ web site, “breaks out of the traditional syndication model – which is clearly in need of an overhaul,” said Fox TV Stations SVP of programming Frank Cicha.

A 2.2 rating/6 share in A18-49 was enough to hand CBS‘s Person of Interest its first demo win at 10p, as NBC‘s Chicago Fire dipped from 2.3/7 to 2.1/6 week to week.

NCIS isn’t showing its age. The CBS procedural, in its eleventh season, fended off hotshot ABC freshman Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in A18-49, scoring 3.0/9 versus 2.7/8 in the young demo, winning the hour for the second consecutive week. Still, S.H.I.E.L.D. ranked as the night’s top show in Men 18-34 and Men 18-49.

Freshman comedies Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Goldbergs both got boosts week to week on Tuesday. Brooklyn drew a 1.6/5 in A18-49 for Fox, up from 1.5/4, while ABC’s Goldbergs posted 1.7/5, up a tenth from last week.

Replacing a Scandal repeat with a Shark Tank encore in the 10p hole where Lucky 7 used to be proved to be good business for ABC. The net saw a time slot bump to 1.1/3 A18-49, an 83 percent improvement in young adults week to week.
