As reported several months ago, NBC is bringing back a revamped and more high-tech version of reality series Fear Factor. Joe Rogan is hosting Fear Factor which will air in a two-hour block at 8p starting December 12 following the season finale of The Sing Off on December 5.
MSNBC is flipping its weeknight schedule by moving The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell to 10p and now The Ed Show will open primetime at 8p. The Rachel Maddow Show will remain in its 9p slot. This new schedule begins next Monday.
Latin American talent search series iQ’Viva! the Chosen from Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and Jamie King, announced yesterday it will air on Univision in the US, Televisa is on board to air the show on its network, Canal de las Estrellas in Mexico and Caracol TV will air it in Colombia. The weekly one-hour series is scheduled to premiere in first quarter 2012 and is being filmed in English, Spanish and Portuguese. iQ’Viva! the Chosen will air simultaneously on 21 networks and more network deals will be forthcoming.
An original new reality series goes inside a famous New York City deli as Family Pickle debuts on RLTV October 26 at 8p. The series is set at the family-owned Carnegie Deli, known for their signature sandwiches and humorous staff led by owners Marian and Sandy Levine. Family Pickle is produced for RLTV by Kevin Kaufman of Pickle Power Productions.
Season three of Pit Bulls & Parolees will premiere on Animal Planet November 12 at 10p. The new 12-episode season revisits Tia Torres and her facility Villalobos, the largest rescue and rehab center in the US for pit bulls staffed by parolees. The series is produced by Rive Gauche Television and 44 Blue Productions for Animal Planet.
Tuesday’s GOP Debate in Las Vegas presented by CNN from 8-10p and moderated by Anderson Cooper tallied nearly 5.5 million total viewers and 1.65 million among A25-54.
GSN (Game Show Network) picked up the first-ever cable rights to quiz show Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? from Mark Burnett and Twentieth Television. The 90 one-hour episodes are hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy and feature a cadre of celebrities making guest appearances such as Kellie Pickler, Tony Hawk, Larry the Cable Guy and more. GSN will air the show in five-hour blocks on Sunday nights from 7p to midnight starting November 6.
Worldwide distribution and production company, Off The Fence (OTF) has had recent sales totaling 80 hours involving various North American broadcasters.
Canada’s HIFI picked up a package of wildlife programming totaling nearly 50 hours: Wildest Africa (13 eps/60 min), Monkey Thieves III (13 eps/30 min); and the one-hour Rocket Compulsion. HIFI further bought a set of Star Wars documentaries from Lucas Film.
- E! Canada, part of the Bell Media group, added the lifestyle series Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best (18 eps/60 min).
- FUEL TV in the US acquired Storm Surfers (2 eps/60 min).
- Teletoon picked up Stan Lee’s Superhumans (9 eps/60 min).
ABC tagged Mandy Moore to star in a single-camera comedy, Us and Them and the network has ordered a put-pilot of the family sitcom. Bob Fisher is penning the sitcom and Moore’s manager, Jon LeShay will produce. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements will serve as executive producers along with Fisher and Shawn Levy who will direct.
Production commenced this week on the sophomore season of TNT’s buddy-lawyer series Franklin & Bash headlined by Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer. TNT will debut the second season next summer. The first season of Franklin & Bash averaged more than 3.9 million viewers and the series is produced by Four Sycamore Production, Left Coast Productions and FanFare Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television.
Drama pilot script Spellbinder about a teenage girl who can communicate with ghosts was picked up by MTV. Erik Patterson and Jessica Scott wrote the pilot and the project is executive produced by Vin Di Bona, Bruce Gersh and Susan Levison of FishBowl Media.
HBO is close to adding two Academy Award-winning actors to its adaptation of The Corrections. Dianne Wiest has signed on to star in the proposed series and Chris Cooper is near to signing as well. Wiest and Cooper would play the troubled Midwestern parents of three adult children based on the book by Jonathan Franzen. The script would be written by Franzen and Noah Baumbach who would also direct the pilot. Scott Rudin is on board as executive producer. HBO has not yet officially approved the project to pilot.
Amy Sedaris landed a multi-episode run on CBS’ drama The Good Wife playing Stacie Hall, a new lobbyist who goes toe-to-toe with Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) and takes away his clients.
Former Gossip Girl star Holley Fain joins ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy as a recurring love interest for Mark Sloane (Eric Dane), reports TVLine. Fain’s character will first appear next month during sweeps.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX took over the #1 spot Tuesday at 3.9/10 with the A18-49 viewers, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. CBS’ NCIS held the 8p time period with a 3.9/11 followed by FOX’s The X-Factor at 3.7/10 and ABC’s comedies Last Man Standing and the series debut of Man Up! averaged a third place at 2.8/8 (Last Man Standing posted a 3.1/9 at 8p and Man Up! delivered a 2.4/6 at 830p for its premiere). At 9p, FOX’s The X-Factor ruled with a 4.1/10 and CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles was next at 3.4/8 and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars Results show was third at 2.6/6. Then at 10p, CBS’ frosh series Unforgettable held the viewers at 2.5/6 with NBC’s Parenthood at #2 with 2.0/5 and ABC’s Body of Proof in a close third position at 1.9/5.
