Last night’s episode of Comedy Central‘s South Park was rescheduled because the creative team missed their deadline. “It sucks to miss an air date,” said co-creator Trey Parker, “but after all these years of tempting fate by delivering the show last minute, I guess it was bound to happen.” A lengthy power outage got the blame for Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers being moved to Wednesday, October 23 at 10p.

~ IN THE NEWS ~

New net Pivot announced it’s available to DISH customers through its downloadable app, PivotTV, and the DISH Anywhere platform. DISH customers will be able to view Pivot’s programming on Internet-connected devices and stream its on-demand offerings. Bottom line: Pivot is targeting Millennials, and that means delivering content everywhere.

Kerry Washington (Scandal) will host NBC‘s Saturday Night Live for the first time on November 2. Musical guest will be Eminem.

Activist Ronan Farrow, son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen (or Frank) will host a show for MSNBC, and contribute to NBC News. “This is a new generation of news show for a new, more engaged generation of viewers,” said Farrow. “I’m excited to shake up people’s expectations for cable news. And to get a ton of Twitter followers.”

Signaling his desire to entice the television production industry to Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti plans to sign an ordinance he introduced last year waiving fees on TV pilots, and for the first year of pilots that go to series. According to FilmL.A., which processes LA’s on-location permits, the city is losing market share with drama series production.

FilmOn X has until October 21 to show why “it should not be held in contempt of court” after offering broadcast streams of its signal in Boston, ruled a D.C. federal judge. The service argued that after a Boston judge refused broadcasters’ attempts to halt rival Aereo, FilmOn X should be allowed to operate in that town, too.

Hearst is teaming with Awesomeness TV to create a stand-alone YouTube channel for iconic teen mag Seventeen, with original shows and tutorials on fashion, beauty and relationships, as well as multichannel network for girls to produce their own channels. “This is a generation that not only consumes an amazing amount of content but produces it as well,” said Awesomeness TV founder and CEO Brian Robbins

YouTube will livestream Breaking Bad‘s farewell event in Albuquerque, a funeral for main character Walter White that was inspired by an obituary for White placed in the Albuquerque Journal. Attendees gain entrance with a donation to benefit Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless; there will be a “donate” button on the livestream page for online viewers. Funeral is 4:30 MDT on Saturday.

Universal Television signed a two-year deal with Shaun Cassidy, says the Hollywood Reporter. “With his vast experience in the entertainment business, he understands all the angles of making a TV show,” said Universal TV EVP Bela Bajaria. “He is also a strong supervisor to other writers.” Cassidy’s credits include Blue Bloods, Invasion and Cold Case.

Panasonic has renewed its sponsorship with National Geographic Channel for The World Heritage Special, a series on UNESCO World Heritage sites that promotes conservation and educational efforts. The partnership reflects “the brands’ shared passion for global sustainable development and environmental preservation,” said the companies.

The New York Television Festival opens Monday, October 21 and features Keynote conversations with Arrested Development creator and exec producer Mitch Hurwitz, and Pivot president Evan Shapiro. Experiences throughout the week include a live pitch event, late-night writers panel and the U.S. premiere of Hulu‘s The Wrong Mans. For info: http://www.nytvf.com/tixSYS/2013/progguide.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT~

America Ferrara (Ugly Betty) will exec produce and star in a pilot for CBS about a nun crusading for justice who is challenged by an organization out to destroy her, reports Deadline. The hour-long drama comes from CBS TV Studios.

AMC has greenlit 10 episodes of King of Arms, about the competitive world of arm wrestling. The unscripted series from the producers of Deadliest Catch and Undertow Films is slated to debut in the first quarter of 2014, adding to a growing docu-series slate that includes Small Town Security, renewed for a third season, and Freakshow, coming back for season two.

~ DISTRIBUTION & CARRIAGE ~

Time Warner Cable and Ovation reached an agreement to bring the arts net back to TWC and Bright House Networks customers on January 1, 2014. Since TWC dropped Ovation in January 2013, citing its meager original arts programming, the net has significantly increased its original programming, including A Young Doctor’s Notebook starring Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe, and launched an in-house production unit. “After losing carriage on TWC, we never stopped listening to what they had to say and responded to it,” said Ovation COO Chad Gutstein.

Telus Corp filed a lawsuit over a termination notice from AMC. The Canadian telecom company is suing the channel to stop it from withholding content, accusing AMC of using strong-arm tactics to obtain higher carriage fees. Telus claims AMC threatened to broadcast a crawl during the season premiere of its most popular show, The Walking Dead, announcing imminent service cancellation.

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

Fox International Channels is expanding its programming mix with a new lifestyle and reality series division. “Around the world, the FOX brand is synonymous with original, breakthrough content in entertainment and sports,” said FIC president and CEO Hernan Lopez. “Now we want to achieve that status with lifestyle and reality programming.”

Victorious and iCarly spin-off Sam & Cat earned Nickelodeon U.K. its best series premiere numbers ever, drawing 293,000 viewers and 240,100 kids, up 228 percent from the net’s average in the time slot for kids 4-15.

SKYCable and RTL CBS Asia Entertainment Network struck a carriage deal to bring new RTL CBS Entertainment HD channel to the Philippines. It’s the fourth market to launch the channel, after Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

Stan Lee‘s first Indian superhero comes to life in Chakra: The Invincible, premiering on Cartoon Network in India on November 30.

Even with the fourth season premiere of AMC‘s Walking Dead smashing ratings records Sunday night with 16.1 million viewers, Showtime‘s Homeland averaged 1.81 viewers at 9p, and 2.62 million including 11p and Monday 1a airings, the drama’s second largest audience ever.

The 15th season premiere of NBC‘s The Biggest Loser averaged a 2.3 rating/ 7 share A18-49, down about 25 percent from its last opener January 6. That didn’t stop the net from winning the night in A19-49 – The Voice earned a 4.0/11 for the second battle round, up over 30 percent from the week prior’s recap ep, and Chicago Fire was up two tenths of a point, to 2.3/7.

CW had its best Tuesday night in A18-49 in four years, with new series The Originals up 22 percent, to 1.1/3; Supernatural drew 1.0/3.

The premiere of DIY‘s Vanilla Ice Goes Amish on Saturday ranked as a top ten program for M25-54 in its timeslot on cable, and drew 534,000 total viewers. “This is a classic ‘fish out of water’ programming strategy,” said Steven Lerner, SVP, programming and production for HGTV and DIY Network.

The October 12 season finale of Hallmark Channel‘s first scripted series, Cedar Cove, was the top cable program on Saturday outside of sports, per Nielsen, with over 3 million unduplicated total viewers and a 2.2 HH rating.
