~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

CBS handed script orders to a comedy set in the golf world titled The Club, reports THR.  Chris Case (Retired at 35) will write the script and serve as EP on the multi-camera project produced by CBS Television Studios.  Eric and Kim Tannenbaum are also on board as EPs through their Tannenbaum Co.  The Club is about a has-been, bad-boy golf pro and the out-of-control employees at a country club who are forced to change their ways when the owner brings in a no-nonsense woman to manage the club.

Sundance Channel revealed its 2013-14 original scripted development slate with five new dramas that highlight non-formulaic characters and fresh storytelling.  Sundance Channel’s scripted development projects include:

  • Valentines Drama based on the novel by Olaf Olafsson, is an emotional journey capturing the most candid moments between lovers when unspoken truths and buried secrets surface.  The plot centers on Herman Peterson, a high-powered New York attorney and his three attractive daughters, Cathryn, Margaret and Soley; set amidst their posh homes, elite social circles and volatile personal relationships.  Produced by Sundance Productions (Robert Redford and Laura Michalchyshyn as producers) along with Fred Berner.
  • Behind the Sun  A coming-of-age story set in the surfer world of Malibu, CA during the mid-1980s which follows the growing pains of the Georges, a determined single child family whose lives begin to unravel after the teenage son finds out he has a rare allergy to the sun.  Dylan Gary is the writer; produced by Olive Productions with Stanley Tucci, Steve Buscemi and Wren Arthur as producers.
  • The Descendants A drama about a sheriff struggling to keep his family together while also trying to police two clashing communities – the small town where he grew up and the neighboring Ramapo Mountains, home of the Ramapo Mountain Indians.  Following a tragedy and cover-up involving the sheriff’s wife, an unholy alliance is forged between the sheriff and a dangerous member of the tribe.  Aaron Guzikowksi is the writer with Sarah Condon serving as producer.
  • T A deeply personal drama about Terrence, a transgender male who has recently undergone gender reassignment surgery and is beginning to live life as a man.  The series will cut between Terrence’s emotional struggle in the present and his past as Thora, a lesbian, student activist at Mt. Holyoke College in 2005.  Anya Epstein and Dan Futterman are writing and The American Life’s Ira Glass and Alissa Shipp producing.
  • Death in the Modern Age Centers on a down-on-his-luck suburbanite who decides to radically reinvent himself by plotting his fake death to start a new life.  In this modern age of DNA testing, digital footprints and more, his escape into a new life proves more difficult.  Josh Shaffer and Eli Kooris are writing; producers include Landscape Entertainment’s Bob Cooper and JJ Jamieson along with Michel Fuchs.

This day in History: 1731 – Benjamin Franklin opens the first US library in Philadelphia.

Answer to Our Last Trivia Question: During the first season of Happy Days, what type of jacket did Fonzie wear? A windbreaker that was light blue/grey in color. (ABC at first thought a leather jacket would make the Fonzie character look too much like a hoodlum. Later they changed their minds and an icon was born.)  Kudos to: Douglas Hochstadt-ABC/NYC; Tom Winiarski-Turner Entertainment Sales/NYC; Jim Bono-Crown Media Family Networks/NYC; Cynthia McFaden-Comcast Spotlight/Fredericksburg, VA; Kristin Staskowski-Charter Media/Birmingham, AL; Tom Boyd-WGN-TV/Chicago; Andi Leston-Sportsman Channel/New Berlin, WI; Cammie Buerry-Station Casinos/Las Vegas; Dan Harberer-Creo Entertainment/Playa del Rey, CA; Chris Loprete-ABC/Hollywood; Marci Polzin-Clear Talent Group/Studio City, CA.

Today’s Trivia Question: On Laverne & Shirley, what was Laverne’s favorite drink? (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone. Unofficial rules: Only the second four correct answers from each time zone will be mentioned; and once you’ve been mentioned in any of the Cynopsis editions, you can’t be mentioned again that calendar week.).
