A new novela about true love and betrayal, Amores Verdaderos (True Love) debuts on Univision next Wednesday at 9p. The new drama, airing Monday-Friday, stars Erika Buenfil, Eiza Gonzalez, Eduardo Yanez, Sebastian Rulli and Enrique Rocha. Nicandro Diaz Gonzalez produces the novela for Televisa. In addition, Univision reported the three-hour 50th anniversary telecast of its variety show, Sabado Gigante (Giant Saturday) last Saturday from 8p-11p reached close to 7 million total viewers. Sabado Gigante Celebra 50 Anos (Sabado Gigante Celebrates 50 Years) also delivered an average audience of 3.2 million total viewers and 1.5 A18-49 viewers.
In January, PBS’ American Experience premieres a three-part series, The Abolitionists airing on PBS stations in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. The series tells the intertwined stories of five heroes of the original Civil Rights Movement, Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, Angelina Grimke, Harriet Beecher Stowe and John Brown. The Abolitionists stars Richard Brooks, Neal Huff, Jeanine Serralles, Kate Lyn Sheil and T. Ryder Smith and will premiere as a special presentation in three parts on American Experience January 8-22 at 9p on PBS (check local listings).
Beginning next Monday, RLTV premieres A Taste of History, a series that examines America’s culinary roots. Hosted by Chef Walter Staib, the series revisits our country’s founding and its founders through the foods they ate and the recipes they used. Chef Staib is a master at open-hearth cookery and demonstrates for viewers how to prepare 18th century dishes and also visits historic locations from Jefferson’s Monticello to Rittenhouse in Philadelphia and Colonial Williamsburg. Starting Monday, RLTV will air back-to-back episodes of A Taste of History weekdays at 1p and 130p. Then beginning November 7, additional episodes will also air on Wednesdays at 8p and 830p, repeating at 11p and 1130p.
Winter premiere dates for several USA Network series have been set: Suits returns with six all-new episodes to conclude its second season on January 17 at 10p; the Winter season premiere of White Collar with six all-new episodes opens January 22 at 10p to wrap its fourth season; and Necessary Roughness is back with five all-new episodes starting January 23 at 10p to finish off its second season.
Style Media approves a fifth season of docu-soap, Jerseylicious. The next season will premiere during first quarter 2013 with 14 all-new episodes produced by Endemol USA. The fourth season of Jerseylicious was Style’s number one show among W18-49, averaging 508,000 total viewers in premiere episodes.
The Weather Channel continued to deliver high viewership as Hurricane Sandy raged on Monday. The network’s average audience on Monday was 2.035 million total viewers, making it TWC’s third highest 3a-3a Total Day average in the network history with total viewers and HH. Also on Monday, TWC delivered 800,000 A25-54 viewers Total Day, which is the highest rated day of the year for this target demo.
Last Friday’s season premiere of Gold Rush on Discovery Channel at 9p posted a 2.43 rating among A25-54; a 3.27 with M25-54; and 4.45 million total viewers. The series debut of Jungle Gold at 10p delivered a 1.5 with A25-54; 2.0 with M25-54; and 2.76 million total viewers, making it the network’s highest-rated series premiere this year in key demos and the fifth highest series premiere overall for the network. New episodes of Gold Rush and Jungle Gold continue on November 2 beginning at 9p.
Programming Note: Hallmark Channel is airing a special three-day programming stunt focused on dogs to highlight the network’s 2nd Annual American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards airing on November 8 at 8p hosted by Kristin Chenoweth. Hallmark Channel’s dog-centric programming begins November 6 at 6p with the animated film The 101 Dalmatians followed by several Hallmark Channel Original Movies: Puppy Love November 6 at 8p; You Lucky Dog November 6 at 10p; plus Hachi: A Dog’s Tale on November 7 at 8p starring Richard Gere, Joan Allen and Jason Alexander; with Hallmark Channel Original Movie, Accidental Friendship airing on November 7 at 10p; and the Hallmark Hall of Fame Movie, A Dog Named Christmas airing following the Hero Dog Awards on November 8 at 10p.

FOX Television Stations (FTS) and Debmar-Mercury forged a deal which brings the Charlie Sheen-starring comedy series, Anger Management to FOX Television Stations for an off-net syndication launch in September 2014. Produced by Lionsgate Television, Anger Management will air on the following FOX-owned duopolies: WNYW-WWOR/New York, KTTV-KCOP/Los Angeles, WFLD-WPWR/Chicago, KDFW-KDFI/Dallas, WTTG-WDCA/Washington DC, KRIV-KTXH/Houston, KSAZ-KUTP/Phoenix, KMSP-WFTC/Minneapolis and WOFL-WRBW/Orlando. FX will continue to hold exclusive cable rights to reruns of Anger Management beginning in fall 2014.
Sarah Shahi (Fairly Legal) was cast in a recurring role on NBC’s firefighter drama Chicago Fire from executive producer Dick Wolf. Shahi will play Renee, a love interest for Lt. Kelly Severeid (Taylor Kinney). She has begun filming her spate of episodes in Chicago.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: NBC had the winning edge Friday among A18-49 at 1.7/5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, ABC won with Shark Tank at 1.8/6 while NBC’s Halloween special Mockingbird Lane and Univision’s Por Ella Soy Eva tied for #2 at 1.5/5 each and CBS’ NCIS repeat and the season premiere of Kitchen Nightmares on FOX tied for #4 at 0.9/3 each. Then at 9p, NBC’s Grimm swept into first place with a 2.0/6 with Univision’s Abismo de Pasion not far behind at 1.8/6. At 10p, CBS’ Blue Bloods and Univision’s Amor Bravio shared the top spot at 1.5/5 apiece while ABC’s 20/20 and NBC’s Dateline Friday each posted a 1.4/5 to tie in third place.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: ABC and FOX both were dealt a #1 status Saturday night posting a 2.8/9 A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, FOX’s World Series Game 3 was tops at 2.4/8 followed by ABC’s Saturday Night Football at 2.2/8. World Series baseball and college football went head-to-head again during 9p though FOX’s World Series Game 3 prevailed at 2.9/9 though ABC’s Notre Dame at Oklahoma match was not far behind at 2.7/9. Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC was in charge Tuesday delivering a 4.1/11 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. NBC’s The Voice hit the right note with viewers at 8p with a 4.4/12 and CBS’ NCIS came next at 3.4/9. NBC’s The Voice remained in first place through 9p with a 4.9/12 and CBS continued in second place, this time with NCIS: Los Angeles at 2.8/7. Entertainment marketing agency, MerryMedia, Inc., is marking its tenth anniversary by adding new staff and moving its headquarters to Sherman Oaks as well as launching a new website (www.MerryMedia.net).
