For its fall lineup, REELZCHANNEL adds more original programming with three projects on the docket.  REELZCHANNEL has the four-part miniseries Barabbas shot on location in Tunisia and based on the novel by Par Lagerkvist about the man whose life was spared instead of Jesus Christ’s.  Barabbas is produced by Compagnia Leone Cinematografica. Next is the half-hour docu-series Beverly Hills Pawn from Asylum Entertainment about the luxury pawn shop owned by Yossi Dina located in the heart of Beverly Hills.  The third new original project is the scripted series Bomb Girls starring Meg Tilly from Muse Entertainment Enterprises and Back Alley Film Productions set during World War II and centered on women who risk their lives working in a munitions factory in support of the European front.

A full season of docu-series Iron Men was granted by The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC).  The docu-series chronicles iron workers who must battle weather conditions hundreds of feet above New York City to build skyscrapers, bridges, arenas and other major structures.  The series has four episodes currently airing and TWCC ordered nine more episodes to launch later this year.  Iron Men originally premiered on May 8, 2012 as part of Braving the Elements, TWCC’s docu-series anthology.  After this order, Iron Men will be a standalone series outside of Braving the Elements moving into its own time period of Thursdays at 9p beginning August 30.  Iron Men is produced by Pipeline39 (formerly known as KPI) behind The Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero, MonsterQuest and MegaStructures.

Mark your calendars! Help us salute the year’s most outstanding communications initiatives and kids programming in the dynamic Kids media industry on Thursday, June 7 from 8  10:30 a.m. at Le Parker Meridien NY. Register: http://www.cynopsis.com/events/kids-awards/.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Five-season series regular Tim Daly will not be returning to ABC’s Private Practice for the show’s sixth season.  Daly played Pete Wilder on the medical series from Shonda Rhimes.

ABC’s new drama series Last Resort upgraded Robert Patrick to series regular, per TVLine.  Patrick plays the submarine’s MC Joseph Prosser and stars with Andre Braugher, Scott Speedman, Dichen Lachman and Autumn Reeser.  ABC will air the drama from producer Shawn Ryan on Thursdays at 8p this fall.

Hallmark Channel tapped Andie MacDowell to star as Judge Olivia Lockhart in the two-hour pilot Cedar Cove.  Production on the pilot begins in mid-June.  Cedar Cove, the movie, is the basis for Hallmark Channel’s first-ever primetime series and will premiere as a movie later this year on the network.  The one-hour drama series is then expected to debut soon after in early 2013.  Cedar Cove is based on the book series by Debbie Macomber.  The partnership between the network and Macomber has resulted in three top-rated Original Movies, Debbie Macomber’s Mrs. Miracle, Debbie Macomber’s Call Me Mrs. Miracle and Debbie Macomber’s Trading Christmas which aired from 2009 to 2011.  Cedar Cove is an Orchard Road Productions Ltd. film.

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

Before its Canadian Upfront event yesterday, Shaw Media’s Global Television announced it picked up quite a few new US TV series to fill a handful of holes and is returning several others.  Global Television is returning Bones, Glee, Hawaii Five-O, The Good Wife, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Office and Survivor.  At the Los Angeles Screenings, Global Television acquired ABC’s Last Resort for 8p on Thursdays and CBS’ Elementary at 10p; for Wednesdays following Survivor at 8p, the broadcaster is adding a pair of sitcoms from NBC, Go On at 9p and Guys with Kids at 930p followed by NBC’s Chicago Fire at 10p.  On Fridays, Global Television picked up the CBS legal drama Made In Jersey at 9p.  Additionally, Global Television acquired the Anne Heche comedy Save Me and The Job from reality producers Michael Davies and Mark Burnett for mid-season.  Canadian Upfronts continue today as Bell Media will reveal its fall and mid-season shows for CTV.

Shaw Media made a deal with A+E Networks to bring cable network Lifetime and H2 to Canada and will be rebranding History Television to match the US-based HISTORY channel.  Lifetime will launch this September in Canada and carry the programming Dance Moms, Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp and The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet.  H2 will also launch in September as a possible rebrand of Shaw Media’s recently-acquired The Cave Channel.  This marks the first international launch of Lifetime and H2.

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) Networks forged a deal with Gaumont International Television to offer the new drama series Hannibal to AXN networks worldwide.  The series Hannibal, produced by Gaumont International Television in association with SPT Networks is based on the character Hannibal Lecter from the novels by Thomas Harris and adapted into feature films.  Hannibal will be broadcast on SPT’s AXN networks in 63 countries with 18 language versions globally.  Production on Hannibal will likely begin in late July.  In the US, NBC ordered 13 episodes of the series which will premiere in mid-season.  Hannibal will have a near day and date release plan across AXN’s footprint.

Production has commenced on the original series Keasha’s Perfect Dress (wt) from Peace Point Entertainment.  The half-hour series with 14 episodes stars bridal consultant expert Keasha Rigsby from the series Say Yes to The Dress.  The new series will debut this fall on Shaw Media’s Slice.
