The cast of How I Met Your Mother opened CBS’ Upfront presentation at Carnegie Hall in New York with a hilarious rendition of Les Miserables. Then, Neil Patrick Harris introduced network President and CEO Leslie Moonves, noting that “without him TV would be ‘les miserable.'” Moonves proudly announced that CBS was once again #1 in viewers for the tenth time in 11 years. As a result, the network was renewing 20 shows. “That shows you how tough it is to get on our schedule,” said Moonves, adding that the new series making the cut for the 2013-2014 season “are the best of the best.” Here’s a look at what’s coming up.

We Are Men (from CBS Television Studios) centers on four single guys living in a short-term apartment complex who unexpectedly find camaraderie over their missteps in love.

Mom (Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television) stars Anna Faris as a newly sober single mom raising two children in a world full of  pitfalls, and Allison Janney as her critical mother.

The Millers (from CBS Television Studios) focuses on a newly divorced news reporter looking forward to living the singles’ life until his parents’ marital problems derail his plans.

Robin Williams returns to series television in The Crazy Ones (from Twentieth Century Fox Television), a comedy about a larger-than-life advertising genius who works side-by-side with his daughter Sydney (Sarah Michelle Gellar).

Suspense drama Hostages (from Jerry Bruckheimer Television in association with Warner Bros. Television) stars Toni Collette as a premiere surgeon thrust into a chilling political conspiracy when her family is taken hostage by rogue FBI Agent Duncan Carlisle (Dylan McDermott).

Lost vet Josh Holloway portrays a high-tech intelligence operative enhanced with a super-computer microchip in his brain in Intelligence (for ABC Television Studios in association with CBS Television Studios).

Sultry legal drama Reckless (from CBS Television Studios) follows a gorgeous Yankee litigator and a charming Southern attorney, who must hide their mutual attraction when a police sex scandal threatens to tear the city apart.

Friends with Better Lives (Twentieth Century Fox Television) is a romantic comedy about six friends at different stages in their lives  married, divorced, newly engaged and single – who secretly question if their pals have it better.

TNT and TBS unveiled an extensive slate of series being developed with some of the industry’s best storytellers, including Steven Spielberg, Steve Carell and Diablo Cody, at its annual Upfront presentation in New York. “Our industry has reached a tipping point,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks. “From creative strength to ratings power, cable has emerged as the leader in television. I’m proud of the role we’ve played at TNT and TBS. Today, we’re looking toward the next horizon  becoming a multiscreen video company serving multiple audiences.” Here’s a look at the highlights.
