Comedy Central canceled The Sarah Silverman Program after the show’s third season and following a Twitter campaign that tried to encourage executives to keep the show. Last year, the show was close to cancelation when Sarah Silverman and two executive producers said they would depart the show when the network asked for a 20% decrease in the show’s budget. A co-financing agreement was settled with Logo to ultimately make a 10-episode third season happen.

In other Comedy Central news, the new multi-camera comedy Big Lake, distributed in the US by Debmar-Mercury with Lionsgate representing the international distribution rights, will debut on the network during third quarter 2010. Comedy Central ordered 10 episodes with an option to up the order by an additional 90 episodes if the initial run proves successful. Big Lake, produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy of Gary Sanchez Productions, is about a young guy (Chris Gethard) who won’t let anything stand in the way of his big plans even if he loses his job and has to move back in with his parents. Together with his two buddies, an ex-con (Horatio Sanz) and a burned-out high school teacher (Chris Parnell), the trio plan many well-intentioned schemes to save their hometown of Big Lake that end up going awry. Debmar-Mercury also holds the rights to take the comedy into domestic syndication beginning fall 2012.

PBS will air the new Ken Burns documentary The Tenth Inning on September 28-29 at 8p each night. In addition to Burns, the two-part, four-hour documentary was also written and directed by Lynn Novick and is produced by David McMahon, Novick and Burns. The documentary picks up where Burns’ successful 1994 series Baseball left off relating the story of American baseball from the early 1990s to the present day. The original nine-part docu-series Baseball was viewed by more than 43 million people, making it the most-watched program in PBS history. The Tenth Inning is produced by Florentine Films and WETA/Washington, D.C. with Keith David as narrator.

Chiller, the newer cable network from NBC Universal specializing in scary entertainment content, is adding the reality series Fear Factor to its schedule beginning July 24 at 8p. Fear Factor, with 139 total hours, will open with back-to-back episodes and will air every Saturday night. NBC originally carried Fear Factor from 2001-2006.

Comcast Corporation and ESPN made a deal so that ESPN 3D will be made available to Comcast’s Digital Cable subscribers. ESPN 3D will launch on June 11 and Comcast is the first cable affiliate to agree to distribute the new network.

Just days before its upfront presentation next Monday, FOX handed series orders to four pilots: the dramas Ridealong and Lone Star (previously titled Midland), as well as the comedies Keep Hope Alive and Traffic Light. All four series projects are produced by 20th Century Fox TV. Additionally, though not official, it is likely FOX is renewing Lie to Me from 20th Century Fox TV and Human Target from Warner Bros. TV for new seasons. Ridealong is a cop drama set in Chicago from executive producers Shawn Ryan and Marney Hochman Nash starring Jennifer Beals, Hason Clark, Matt Lauria and Delroy Lindo. Lone Star is a drama about a family oil business from writer Kyle Killen and executive producers Chris Keyser, Amy Lippman, Kerry Kohansky, Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz. Mark Deklin, Jon Voight, David Keith and Adrianne Palicki headline Lone Star. Keep Hope Alive is a comedy about a guy who has a one-night stand with a woman who ends up on death row and she gives birth to his child. Greg Garcia and director Michael Fresco are executive producers. Martha Plimpton is among the stars. Traffic Light is based on an Israeli series about three friends and their relationships. Bob Fisher penned the pilot; executive producers include Adir Miller, Avi Nir, Ran Telem and Elad Koperman.

FX gave a nod to a new comedy/live-action pilot titled Wilfred, based on the Australian series of the same name adapted for FX by David Zuckerman. Jason Gann, co-creator and star of the Australian version, has agreed to star in the pilot. Zuckerman wrote the adapted pilot script and will executive produce along with Rich Frank, Paul Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz of Prospect Park and Joe Connor and Ken Conner of Renegade, producers of the Australian Wilfred version. Gann will also serve as co-executive producer.
