~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

In anticipation of its primetime Upfront event next week, yesterday FOX picked up four series pilots:

  • Alcatraz produced by Warner Bros. Television and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions has a plot centered on prisoners and guards from the famous prison who disappeared in the 1960s and re-emerge in the present day unaltered.
  • Finder is a spinoff of Bones headlined by Geoff Stults playing a military-trained guy who locates people no one else can in the Florida Keys.  20th Century Fox Television produces the back-door pilot which delivered a 3.2 rating for its broadcast on April 21.
  • The New Girl, a single-camera comedy from 20th Century Fox Television, stars Zooey Deschanel as a woman who moves in with three single male roommates.
  • I Hate My Teenage Daughter from Warner Bros. is a multi-camera comedy starring Jaime Pressly and Katie Finneran as two moms whose daughters are like the mean girls who tormented them in high school.

FOX additionally will not be renewing a handful of series on its current schedule: the dramas Human Target, The Chicago Code and Lie to Me.

Spike TV picked up six unscripted pilots:

  • The Sherriff from Ben Silverman’s Electus and 5X5 Media is a sheriff makeover show where law enforcement expert Tony Schiena helps sheriff departments with revamping their combat and driving techniques.
  • Pawn Games from 495 Productions is a competitive game show in the pawn genre where contestants win back possessions they have already pawned.
  • Hungry Men at Work from Page Productions follows people who fight forest fires and work on oil rigs.
  • World’s Worst Tenants from Zoo Productions follows L.A.-based evictor Todd Howard.
  • The Hustler produced by RelativityREAL centers on salesman Josh T. Ryan.
  • Auction in My House from Zodiak USA is based on the British series Secret Dealers.

The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will air live on CBS from the Las Vegas Hilton on June 19 at 8p.  Wayne Brady, host of CBS’ Let’s Make a Deal will host.  Two other long-time game shows hosts, Pat Sajak of Wheel of Fortune and Alex Trebek of Jeopardy! will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Father-daughter duo Ryan and Tatum O’Neal will star in their own docu-series, Ryan & Tatum: The O’Neals on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network launching on Father’s Day, June 19 at 10p.  The eight-episode series documents the reunion of the father and daughter after a 25-year estrangement.  Endemol USA is producing the series.

Next Monday, MTV brings back a fourth season of its hidden camera series, Disaster Date at 630p.  Disaster Date is about friends sending other unsuspecting friends on a blind date.  In the opening episode, MTV’s Jersey Shore star Pauly D sets up cast mate Deena Cortese on a date.  Other Jersey Shore cast members will appear throughout the season including Vinny Guadagnino, Jenni “JWoww” Farley, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi as well as Jayson Blair from MTV’s The Hard Times of R.J. Berger.
