Good morning. It’s Thursday, March 2, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
UPFRONT: CARTOON NETWORK
At Cartoon Network’s 2006 Kids Upfront Presentation held yesterday in NYC, the network unveiled its plans for a series of original movies. The network announced it has begun production on Re-Animated, a live-action mixed with animation movie, which is slated to premiere fall 2006. Re-Animated revolves around Jimmy Roberts, a 12-yr-old boy who has an accident and finds himself in need of a brain transplant, only to end up with the brain of a famous cartoonist, From thereon, Jimmy sees the world differently. Re-Animated was created by Adam Pava and Tim McKeon. Cartoon Network will also produce three movies based on its original series: Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends movie Good Wilt Hunting (60 min, fall 2006); Codename: Kids Next Door’s Operation: Zero (90 min, August 2006); and Teen Titans’ Teen Titans Tokyo (fall 2006). Additionally, Cartoon Network plans to produce 12 additional animated movies.
On the series front, Cartoon Network will launch two new series Squirrel Boy and Class of 3000 this year.
- Squirrel Boy (13 x 30 min) revolves around a 10 yr-old boy and his pal and know-it-all pet squirrel, who take off in adventures in the neighborhood. The series is created and executive produced by Everett Peck and is being produced at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank. Squirrel Boy is slated to premiere in July 2006.
- Class of 3000 (12 x 30 min, premiere 60 min), created and executive produced by Andre Benjamin, of the music group OutKast, and Tom Lynch. Class of 3000 follows a group of students at a prestigious school for the Performing Arts in Atlanta, each from different backgrounds and parts of the city. Class of 3000 is produced by Cartoon Network in conjunction with Tom Lynch Co. and Andre Benjamin’s company, Moxie.
Series that have been given the go-ahead for another season include Ben 10 and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. Ben 10 will continue to air as part of the Saturday morning block at 10a, but will also be stripped M-F beginning May 2006. Foster’s will remain as part of the Fridays block with new episodes bowing in May, and themed programming stunts will be built around the series’ weekday strip. In addition, the characters Mac and Bloo will serve as hosts for a summer programming block. Finally, a Foster’s DVD is slated to be released 4Q 2006.
