Reports that Anderson Cooper was approached by NBC as a potential replacement for Matt Lauer on the Today show were shot down by the network. According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources at NBC and for Cooper confirmed that NBC did reach out to Cooper, but not in regard to taking over for Lauer. In addition, NBC News Senior Vice President Alexandra Wallace praised Lauer as “the best in the business” via a statement, adding that the network hoped to have him as a Today anchor “for many years to come.”

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

The winners of the 72nd Annual Peabody Awards were announced on Wednesday. Among those chosen by the Peabody board as the best in electronic media for 2012 were TNT‘s Southland, FX‘s Louie, HBO‘s Girls and Game Change, and ABC Family‘s Switched at Birth. ABC News won an award for its coverage of Superstorm Sandy, while CNN garnered one for its Coverage Inside Syria and Homs 2012. CBS News‘ 60 Minutes was honored for two segments: Deception at Duke and Joy in the Congo. In addition, an Individual Peabody was awarded to Lorne Michaels, now in his 37th year as executive producer of Saturday Night Live.

Viewers can catch up with Dog, Beth and their family, who were on the verge of falling apart on the finale of A&E’s Dog the Bounty Hunter, with CMT‘s Dog and Beth: The Preview Special on Sunday, April 14 at 8p. The two-hour special goes behind-the-scenes of their struggle and will re-air throughout the following week on CMT and CMT.com. It’s part of the countdown to the series premiere of Dog and Beth: On the Hunt on Sunday, April 21 at 8p.

 
Participant Media is launching a new cable network targeting millenials: pivot, which will premiere on August 1. pivot will be available through traditional pay TV packages, and a broadband-only subscription. The network’s first six greenlit series are: TakePart Live, a live talk show, five nights a week; HitRECord on TV!, a re-imagination of the variety show; Raising McCain, a docu-talk series from Meghan McCain; WILL, modern period drama; and reality series Jersey Strong. The network will also joint venture with Univision News and Latin World Entertainment to co-produce ten, one-hour documentaries that will air on pivot in English and Univision in Spanish.

American Idol‘s elimination show on Thursday, March 28 will feature a special guest: former contestant and current star of NBC’s Smash, Katharine McPhee. The singer-turned-actress will return to her roots and perform with One Republic on the FOX show.

~ RETURNING SERIES ~

CBS has renewed 14 series: comedies 2 Broke Girls and Mike and Molly; dramas Blue Bloods, Elementary, Hawaii Five-0, The Mentalist, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest and The Good Wife; reality shows The Amazing Race, Survivor and Undercover Boss; and news shows 60 Minutes and 48 Hours.

~ CASTING NEWS ~

Adrian Pasdar, previously of Heroes, has been cast as a recurring guest star in season seven of USA Network‘s Burn Notice. He’ll play Randall Burke, a special ops soldier.

~ SYNDICATION NEWS ~

There will be one less judge in syndication land. CBS Television Distribution has canceled Judge Joe Brown. The move came as ratings for 15-year old show began dipping and negotiations on a new contract with Brown broke down.

PPI Releasing and Tricon Films & Television have green lit a September 2013 broadcast syndication launch of the one-hour drama, Sanctuary. The series, which ran on SyFy, has been cleared in more than 78% of the U.S., including WABC New York, KDOC  Los Angeles, WCIU  Chicago and stations from the ABC Owned, Belo, Cox, Hearst, Fox, LIN, Meredith, Hubbard, Journal, Pappas, Post-Newsweek, Titan and Weigel groups.

~ PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT NEWS ~

NBC is looking to expand on the success of its new drama Chicago Fire by developing a spinoff. Chicago Fire creators and executive producers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, executive producer Matt Olmstead and executive producer Dick Wolf will oversee the project that would be set at a Chicago police department.

The NYTVF and A&E Networks have announced that A&E Network and BIO Channel are returning as NYTVF development partners in 2013. The agreement includes the third installment of the A&E Unscripted Development Pipeline, a sponsored initiative through which the network is seeking original, unscripted television concepts from independent artists and production companies.

 ~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

Distributor DCD Rights has sold I Found The Gown and Parole Diaries internationally. I Found the Gown, TLC’s successful bride-themed series was sold to Foxtel Australia. Parole Diaries (Towers Productions for TV One), the show which follows parole officers from Indianapolis, was acquired by Planete France, National Geographic Channels International for Latin America, Foxtel Australia and New Zealand. In addition, TLC’s United Bates Of America has been pre-sold to Foxtel Australia.

Dorothy Crompton, CEO of o2c, has announced more sales for the 20 newest episodes of Dog Whisperer. Fox (Japan), TV Norge (Norway) and Sanoma (Finland) have licensed Season Seven of the Cesar Millan series.

Discovery Channel reports that Fast N’ Loud was the #1 cable program among men 25-54 delivery and men 18-49 delivery (excluding sports) on Monday, March 25. The series earned a 1.52 HH/1.24 P25-54 AA% and delivered 2.24 million total viewers P2+. This is the series’ most watched episode to date (P2+) outperforming its previous ratings record high last week by +93,000 viewers.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis:  CBS led among A18-49 viewers on Tuesday with a 2.4/7, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. NBC’s Voice began the night on top at 8p at 4.1/12, and CBS’ NCIS followed at 3.2/9.  At 9p CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles took over the lead at 2.6/7, while ABC’s Dancing With the Stars came in second at 2.4/6. UMA’s Futbol (Mexico vs. US) leapt into first at 10p at 2.2/7. ABC’s Body of Proof placed second at 1.6/5, while CBS’ Golden Boy was in third at 1.4/4.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Jeff Olde has been appointed Executive Vice President, Program Development, E! He will oversee original programming and series development for the global pop culture brand. Olde previously served as Executive Vice President, Original Programming, Production & Development at VHI. His new position is effective this summer.

AMC Networks has promoted two executives. Dom Atteritano has been named to Senior Vice President, Legal and Business Affairs, for WE tv, up from Vice President. Brian Gottlock has been name Vice President, Legal and Business Affairs, for IFC, up from senior counsel.

Monica Talan has been appointed Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Relations for Univision Communications Inc., effective immediately. Talan, formerly Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Relations, will continue to be responsible for overseeing all corporate and internal communications, programming public relations and the Company’s media relations efforts.

MarVista Entertainment has appointed three new executives. Winny Poon has been named Vice President and Controller and will be responsible for the company’s financial plans and policies, accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. Tony Vassiliadis has been named Director of Strategic Programs and will launch and implement strategic initiatives that improve the company’s operations and profitability. Hannah Pillemer has been name Creative Executive to oversee projects from early development through final delivery in the film and television market.

Adam Cooper has joined Wenner Media to serve as East Coast Digital Sales Director for Rolling Stone. Cooper will oversee digital revenue for the magazine on the East Coast as well as digital products and strategy. Most recently, Cooper was Senior Digital Account Executive at ESPN.

Adam Smith has been promoted to Vice President, Digital Ad Operations within the ESPN‘s Sales and Marketing Business Operations team. Smith, who joined the Business Operations team last year, will continue to partner with Digital Media and Ad Sales leadership teams to develop global operational strategy to support sales and product development plans and to lead all operational efforts to support and advance digital ad sales for WatchESPN.
