~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

New celebrity interview program The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet debuts on Lifetime April 26 at 11p with eight episodes.  Hosted by British TV personality and photographer, Amanda de Cadenet, the one-hour program presents intimate interviews with such female celebrities as Jane Fonda, Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kelly Preston and Olivia Wilde among others.  The conversations take place in the celebrity’s homes and each covers a wide range of topics such as sexuality, body image, career and finances, relationships, love and loss, politics, human rights and more.  The series will also feature Women on the Street segments where everyday women weigh in with their personal thoughts about their lives and the world today.  The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet was created by de Cadenet and marks her US TV debut.  Demi Moore and de Cadenet are among the executive producers for the series along with Rob Sharenow, Gena McCarthy and David Hillman of Lifetime; Andrew Fried is co-EP. 

This summer, VH1 follows the lives of five ex-wives of Hollywood A-list celebrities when Hollywood Exes (wt) debuts with 10 one-hour episodes.  The series stars Nicole Murphy (ex-wife of Eddie Murphy), Jessica Canseco (ex-wife of Jose Canseco), Sheree Fletcher (ex-wife of Will Smith), Mayte Garcia (ex-wife of Prince) and Andrea Kelly (ex-wife of R. Kelly) as all ladies try to chart their own lives.  A premiere date has not been set yet for Hollywood Exes produced by Shed Media. 

WE tv has two new docu-soap series on tap to debut this summer.  First up is Kendra On Top starring former Playboy model, author and reality star Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett.  The series follows Kendra as she balances her family, work and personal ambitions.  WE tv ordered 14 episodes (one-hour premiere and finale eps and 12 half-hour eps) produced by Prometheus Entertainment with production beginning in Los Angeles this month.  The second docu-soap is Cyndi (wt) featuring Grammy Award-winner Cyndi Lauper.  In this new series, viewers will have access to Cyndi’s personal and professional life as she juggles her many roles as rock star, mother, wife, Broadway composer and philanthropist.  WE tv ordered 12 half-hour episodes produced by Mark Burnett’s One Three Inc. with production commencing next month in New York.

UPFRONT 2012: GSN

GSN hosted its Upfront presentation yesterday at the Sony Club in New York City.  Led by EVP/Programming Amy Introcaso-Davis, the network unveiled its programming strategy.  GSN will continue its studio-based game shows though will expand its programming and brand to include reality series.  Introcaso-Davis presented her plan for GSN’s original programming and development slate which encompasses three categories: Shiny Floor Game; Real-Life Game; and Iconic Game Reinvented.  GSN has approved one new original series and one renewal:

  • Beat the Chefs is a new one-hour show where everyday cooks try to prove their family recipes are prize worthy as they battle against professional chefs.  Produced by RelativityREAL.
  • The Newlywed Game with host Sherri Shepherd will be back on the network for a sixth season.  The half-hour show which is a modern-day remake of the classic version is produced by Embassy Row in association with Sony Pictures Television.

GSN has seven other series projects in development:

  • Previously-announced The American Bible Challenge pilot is a studio-based game show where contestants compete based on their knowledge of the Bible.  GSN also announced yesterday comedian Jeff Foxworthy will host the pilot with production beginning later this month.  RelativityREAL is producing for GSN.
  • $100,000 Pyramid is based on the classic game show format from the past and is an all-new half-hour version of the word guessing game complete with the iconic pyramid board, the Winner’s Circle and celebrity guests.  Embassy Row is producing in association with Sony Pictures Television.
  • Pure Gold is a half-hour series featuring The Gold Guys: Joe and Shane who own a national chain of 14 stores where gold transactions take place and sellers of personal gold sometimes reap great monetary gains.  The series is produced by Krasnow Productions.
  • The Family Trade is a half-hour series highlighting the Middlebury, Vermont business G-Stone Motors, a GMC and Ford dealership where founder Gardner Stone will trade new cars for almost anything he thinks he can sell though his son Todd and daughter Darcy have other ideas of what makes a good trade.  Lionsgate is producing.
  • I Do, Now I Don’t is set inside a New York City business that buys and sells secondhand engagement rings owned by the brother-sister team of Josh Opperman and his sister Mara.  The half-hour series is produced by eOne Entertainment.
  • Crowning Glory explores the world of alternative pageant contests that celebrate various subcultures and communities across the US such as Miss Klingon Empire to Miss Rodeo America.  This one-hour series is from World of Wonder.
  • War of the Rose Sisters is a half-hour series centering on sisters Beth and Pam Rose, the eldest of four auctioneer sisters who sell millions of dollars of jewelry, cars, antiques and art annually.  Stone & Company produces. 

Monday’s new season premiere of La La’s Full Court Life at 9p on VH1 averaged a 1.3 rating among A18-49 and 1.8 million total viewers.  Following at 10p, VH1 launched new series Styled By June which averaged a 0.8 rating with A18-49 and 1.1 million total viewers.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Stephanie March, known to TV viewers for her co-starring role on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU has landed a role on CBS’ drama pilot Baby Big Shot.  The CBS pilot is a legal drama about a working-class woman (Janet Montgomery) who uses her street savvy ways to compete with her more sophisticated colleagues at a top New York law firm.  March will play a high-ranking associate at the law firm who aspires to run the firm someday.  Kyle MacLachlan also stars in the project. 

The pilot Super Fun Night for CBS from Rebel Wilson has added Alan Ritchson (CW’s Smallville) to the cast.  Wilson plays Kimmie one of three nerdy female friends who go on a weekly quest to have a “super fun” time each Friday night. Ritchson will play the tanned and hunky boyfriend of Kimmie’s younger sister, described as a skinnier, prettier version of her older sister. Warner Bros. Television is producing.

Jenna-Louise Coleman landed the role as the new companion to Doctor Who on the BBC America series of the same name.  Coleman will star opposite Matt Smith in the title role as Doctor Who.  The series is a BBC Cymru Wales Production for BBC One. 

Mystery crime series Hemlock Grove, produced by Gaumont International Television will be available to Netflix members to watch instantly by early 2013.  The series stars Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgard and the first season of Hemlock Grove will have 13 episodes.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis:  CBS had the winning lineup Tuesday posting a 2.7/8 A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.   At 8p, CBS won with NCIS at 3.4/10 and NBC’s The Biggest Loser was #2 at 2.2/7.  CBS held sway at 9p with NCIS: Los Angeles at 2.8/8 and NBC’s The Biggest Loser also remained firmly in second place at 2.5/7.  CBS had the final say in the winner’s circle at 10p with Unforgettable at 2.1/6 and #2 was shared by NBC’s Fashion Star and Univision’s La Que No Podia Amar at 1.8/5 each.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Jon Collins, presently Founder/President of Framestore’s New York operation was promoted to the newly-minted role as President/Integrated Advertising (Worldwide) Framestore.  Jon will oversee the company’s ongoing move to bring together a team of creative and strategic problem solvers that can grow the company’s visual effects reputation.  Jon will further be in charge of spearheading communications across all Framestore locations in London, New York and Reykjavik.

truTV appointed Adam Dolgins as SVP/Original Programming to supervise the network’s Original Programming Group which handles alternative comedic programming such as the series Impractical Jokers.  Based in New York, Adam reports to Darren Campo, SVP/Programming, Production and Development, truTV.  Prior to this new role, Adam was with his own production company, Fractured Hip Productions where he was executive producer on several comedic reality programs. 

Due to the continued growth of its global Live Experiences units, FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) named three to newly-created roles: Chris Arrowsmith as VP/Live Experiences UK, Margee Brown as Creative Development Director, Asia-Pacific and Thekla Orfanos as Sales and Marketing Manager, Asia-Pacific.  FME’s Live Experiences division launched in Asia-Pacific in 2010 and has produced a number of live events throughout Australia for brands such as MasterChef, Grand Designs and Q1.  Chris will report to Dominic Burns, SVP/Licensing UK and Entertainment EMEA while Margee and Thekla report to Dustin Lockett, VP/Live Experiences, Asia-Pacific. 

Effective immediately, Toei Animation elevated Iriya Azuma to Director/Global Licensing Business Department.  Iriya will manage international licensing strategies for its various brands.  Iriya has been with the company since 1986. 

Curtis Pace was tapped as GM of Bounce TV-New Orleans, WVUE and becomes the first dedicated local GM for a Bounce TV affiliate.  Before this appointment, Curtis was with Disney/ABC Domestic Television serving as VP/Midwest Sales in Chicago.  WVUE is owned by Louisiana Media Company.
