Cynopsis: Kids!
3/22/07
Good morning. It’s Thursday, March 22, 2007 and this is your first early morning kids briefing.
Kajeet Inc., a mobile virtual network operator, introduced retail plans for its new tween-targeted pay-as-you-go mobile phone service and handsets, which will be available retail outlets 500 Best Buy stores by May 1, 2007 and at Limited Two beginning early April. Nationwide Sprint PCS Network is providing coverage for kajeet’s wireless network. The idea is this; the pay-as-you-go concept means no wireless contracts or the various fees that go with it and nobody is stuck with whatever comes in the package deal. So, tweens can put together the features they want in a mobile service and parents can approve them, which if you live with tweens you know this could include some mighty negotiations. Of course the service also offers some of the regular accoutrements such as ringtones, wallpaper options, voice, text, picture, and instant messaging options. Text messages (in and out) are $.05 cents; each talk minute is $.10; picture messaging runs $.25 per picture (sent and received); unlimited IM is $6.99/month. On the content side not wholly unlike other youth-targeted MVNO’s, including Disney, kajeet offers a range of content also designed to make both kids and parents happy:
- “Configurator,” which costs $.35 a day, and features:
- TimeManager lets the phone be programmed to times it can be active (e.g. after school) or off (e.g. like before 10p);
- WalletManager a virtual organizer where kids/parents can keep track of who is paying for what features say calls/texts to parents versus to friends, also the place to check your balance and transfer funds from parents wallet to kids;
- ContactManager offers the ability to allow/block who can call/text that phone.
- The kajeet service also features games and content from partners including: Nickelodeon, Cellmania, Glu Mobile, Gameloft, I-play, Airborne Entertainment, as well as Google Maps for Mobile and AOL’s AIM.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
While the first new Nancy Drew feature film doesn’t drop until this summer, the second Nancy Drew movie is in the works, per Variety. From the same team of Producer Jerry Weintraub and director Andrew Flemming, Emma Roberts will return in her role as teen super-sleuth Nancy Drew in the second movie. Weintraub, Flemming and Roberts are also working on Rodeo Girl, a movie for Warner Bros.
