See what’s coming next!CBS Corporation has sold The Good Wife in a multi-platform deal that includes subscription-video-on-demand services, a basic cable network, and broadcast television stations. “This is an off-network model for a unique serialized show in today’s television ecosystem,” said Leslie Moonves, President and CEO, CBS Corporation. “It uses creative windowing to serve the content needs of best-in-class partners, while realizing the full syndication value for a high-quality series.”
As part of an agreement with Amazon.com, the first three seasons of The Good Wife will be available on Amazon Prime Instant Video beginning March 14, with season four coming to Prime Instant Video later this year after its finale on CBS. As part of an expanded agreement with Hulu Plus, previous seasons of The Good Wife will be available to its subscribers in September 2013. The Hallmark Channel has acquired off-network rights and will begin running the show on weekdays beginning January 2014.
In addition, the show will be available to local television stations for weekend broadcast syndication window beginning in September 2014. CBS Television Distribution has sold these rights to the CBS Television Stations as the flagship broadcast group and to stations of all affiliations, currently covering 85% of the country.
Fans of USA Network‘s Psych will get the chance to determine the show’s ending via a live interactive event to mark the show’s 100th episode on Wednesday, March 27 at 10p. The multi-platform experience kicks off on March 13 across web, social and mobile with a Psych-themed interactive countdown calendar, custom polls, trivia and challenges across all the show’s social channels. “This is a great example of how USA can event-ize a broadcast and take fan engagement to new heights before, during and after the show,” said Alexandra Shapiro, executive vice president, marketing & digital.
ABC Family presents the Season 3 finale of Pretty Little Liars, followed by a sneak peek of the full first episode of Twisted, the new drama series set to premiere this summer, on Tuesday, March 19. Pretty Little Liars airs at 8p, followed by Twisted at 9p. Avan Jogia, who plays Danny Desai on Twisted, will answer fan questions live via Twitter on Tuesday, March 19during the show’s East Coast feed at his handle @ATJogia.
MTV is set to debut an all-new Thursday night lineup with the series premieres of The Show With Vinny and Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous. Vinny Guadagnino, formerly of Jersey Shore, tackles late night with The Show With Vinny. The new talk show takes celebrities into Guadagnino’s family home in Staten Island, NY. It will premiere on Thursday, May 2 at 10p. Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous, a half comedy starring Bo Burnham as a teenager who opts to pursue fame and stardom instead of attending college, will premiere Thursday, May 2 at 10:30p.
In celebration of General Hospital‘s 50th anniversary, SOAPnet is airing a 50-hour marathon of classic episodes from the series, beginning Friday, March 29 at 10p and running through Monday, April 1 at 12a. Events kick off with the very first episode from 1963 and will include shows from every decade, leading up to special 50th anniversary episode on General Hospital airing Monday, April 1 at 2p on ABC and 9p and 12a on SOAPnet.
MundoFox premieres the music game show Atrevete a Cantar, the Spanish-language version of the hit game show Who Dares, Sings!, on Friday, March 18 at 8p. Puerto Rican Idol Jaime Mayol, and Colombian singer/actress Marbelle co-host the karaoke competition, where 100 studio audience participants sing their hearts out competing for the chance to win up to $5,000.
Jeffrey P. Jones, a television scholar and author, will become director of the University of Georgia’s George Foster Peabody Awards in July, succeeding Horace Newcomb, who is retiring after heading the program for 12 years. Currently an associate professor at Old Dominion University and director of its Institute of Humanities, Jones is the author of Entertaining Politics: Satiric Television and Political Engagement, which examines political entertainment shows such as The Colbert Report. He is also an editor of The Essential HBO Reader and Satire TV: Politics and Comedy in the Post-Network Era.
Oxygen has renewed Bad Girls Club for an 11th season. In addition, the network has ordered an all-star challenge version of the series: Bad Girls All Star Battle. The latter will reunite 14 of the more popular cast members from the show’s previous ten seasons.
Animal Planet has greenlit Gator Boys for a third season, ordering 10 new episodes. It was the network’s second most watched series this year about among persons 25-54 and males 18-49. Stars Paul Bedard and Jimmy Riffle, who spent last season wrangling gators in Mississippi, will return to South Florida.
Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes of Broad City, a TV version of the web series with the same title. The show is set to premiere in 2014.
Dermot Mulroney has been tapped to star in NBC‘s untitled conspiracy thriller by Rand Ravich. He’ll play Bill Gibson, a former CIA analyst.
John Stamos has landed a recurring guest-starring role in season three of USA‘s Necessary Roughness. He’ll play Connor McClane, the founder a sports and entertainment management company.
Abbie Cornish has been cast as the female lead in Discovery Channel‘s first scripted mini-series Klondike (wt). Cornish is known for her roles in Sucker Punch, Bright Star and Limitless.
Soccer player Brandi Chastain, a two time Women’s World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, has joined the cast of the ABC reality series Splash.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX led Tuesday night among A18-49 viewers with a 2.2/7, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. FOX opened the night on top at 8p with Hell’s Kitchen at 2.1/7 and CBS followed with NCIS at 1.9/6. At 9p FOX continued to lead with another episode of Hell’s Kitchen at 2.3/6. CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles ranked second with a 1.9/5, while Univision’s Amores Verdaderos was close behind at 1.8/5. Univsion led the pack at 10p with Amor Bravio at 1.7/5, while CBS’ Golden Boy followed at 1.5/5.

George Chien has been named Executive Vice President, networks, Asia-Pacific for Sony Pictures Television. Chien, who previously served as Senior Vice President with the company, will now manage P&L for SPT’s television networks in the Asia-Pacific region and continue to provide leadership to channels including Animax, AXN, Sony Entertainment Television (SET), BeTV and ONE in Asia; Animax, AXN and AXN Mystery in Japan; and Animax and AXN in Korea. Chien will also continue to work closely with SPT’s Indian channels business, Multi Screen Media Private Limited, which operates and distributes SPT’s cable and satellite networks SET, SAB, PIX, MAX, MIX, SIX and AATH. Additionally, Chien oversees SPT’s interests in Australian joint venture TV1/SF.
Jenny McNicholas has been appointed Vice President, Production & Operations of the Hispanic entertainment cable network mun2. McNicholas has been with the network for seven years and was most recently Director, Production. In her expanded role she will be responsible for all in-house and third party productions for the network, from development to transmission, as well as mun2’s broadcast operations teams in Miami and Los Angeles.
Ovation has promoted Debra Balamos to SVP Marketing for Content Distribution. In her new role, Balamos will be responsible for overseeing strategic direction and overall management of content distribution marketing functions to help achieve distribution and revenue growth. During her five years with Ovation as a member of the content distribution team, Balamos developed numerous high-profile partnership strategies nationwide and worked with the core team that grew Ovation from 5 million to 50 million subscribers.
Veria Living, a multiplatform media company devoted to showcasing healthy lifestyle and wellness programming, has appointed Zovig Garboushian to the newly-created role of Director of Business Development. Garboushian will be responsible for creating new partnerships, generating exposure and securing large-scale sponsorship opportunities for the Veria Living brand.
