Ryan Seacrest Productions’ latest new series I Kid With Brad Garrett launches on TLC June 28 at 8p with stacked episodes. The series, hosted by Brad Garrett, watches as he asks kids to offer their perspective on the world.
Six new episodes of Unsung debut this Monday on TV One at 10p. The one-hour biography series showcases the lives and careers of successful African American artists or groups that have not garnered the top level recognition they deserve. The opening episode profiles singer Deniece Williams. All six episodes are narrated by Gary Anthony Williams and air Mondays at 10p. A. Smith & Co. Productions produces the series.
New vegan cooking show The Jazzy Vegetarian will launch nationally via public television stations starting October 1 (check local listings). Hosted by Laura Theodore, the series has 13 half-hour episodes showing viewers step-by-step how to make healthy, earth-friendly dishes using no dairy, meat, eggs or animal products that are completely cholesterol-free. The Jazzy Vegetarian is produced by Virtual Media Productions/PCA Creative LLC , in association with Oregon Public Broadcasting(OPB) and is distributed to public television stations through the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA).
MSG Network renewed Indie NYC: Powered By Baeblemusic for a second season, airing each Friday night throughout the summer on MSG. Baeblemusic offers up a new batch of concert videos for the series which kicks off this Friday at midnight.
Monday’s third season premiere of Basketball Wives on VH1 at 8p delivered a 1.2 rating with A18-49 and 1.8 million total viewers. Factoring in the 11p airing, Basketball Wives had 3.5 million total viewers for the night. Following at 9p, VH1 aired the two-hour series premiere of Single Ladies, the network’s first one-hour scripted series, which posted a 1.2 rating with A18-49 and 1.8 million total viewers. When combined with its 12a encore airing, Single Ladies tallied 2.8 million total viewers for the night.
On Sunday, TLC aired two premiere episodes of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding at 9p and 10p. The first airing at 9p drew in 2.1 million total viewers while the second episode at 10p attracted 2.3 million total viewers.
Discovery Channel’s part one season finale of American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior on Monday delivered 3.22 million total viewers. Part two of the season finale airs next Monday at 9p.
Actress Clarice Taylor recently died at the age of 93. Ms. Taylor is best known for playing Bill Cosby’s television mother, Anna Huxtable on the family comedy Cosby Show which earned her an Emmy nomination in 1986. Ms. Taylor also played the character Harriet on the PBS children’s show Sesame Street for 14 years. Other acting credits include roles in films such as Play Misty for Me, Sommersby and Smoke as well as a stint on Broadway in The Wiz.
FOX made new affiliation deals with Coastal Television Broadcasting Company LLC, owner of KTBY/Anchorage and Vision Alaska II, owner of KJUD to launch a new FOX affiliate in Juneau. The Juneau station will have the call letters KJUD-TV D2 and will continue to operate from its existing facility in Juneau. The agreement does not tamper with Vision Alaska II’s or KJUD-TV’s current digital channel programming. KTBY in Anchorage has been a FOX affiliate since October 1, 1986 with Anchorage being the 150th-ranking TV market in the US. Juneau is the 207th-ranking TV market in the US.
According to reports, Syfy is considering taking up the canceled NBC frosh series The Event as a miniseries. The Event is produced by Universal Media Studios.
Morena Baccarin (V, Firefly) landed a major role in Showtime’s upcoming one-hour drama series, Homeland starring Claire Danes and Damian Lewis. Baccarin will play Jessica Brody, Sgt. Nick Brody’s (Lewis) complicated wife. Production on Homeland begins this month under executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, both former executive producers on 24.
Veteran actress Cloris Leachman promoted to series regular on FOX’s comedy Raising Hope for its second season. On the show, Leachman plays the confused-acting “Maw Maw.” During the first season of the show, Leachman was billed as “special guest star.”
It’s being reported Halle Berry may return to television playing a teacher in a script titled Higher Learning that is being shopped to premium cable networks.
In a recent interview with the Italian Vanity Fair, Patrick Dempsey said he will leave ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy after the eighth season which coincides with the expiration of his current contract. Contracts for other series regulars also end after season eight including those for Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, Sandra Oh and Justin Chambers. Grey’s Anatomy executive producer Shonda Rhimes has also said she is planning on the eighth season being the last for the original cast, telling TVLine.com: “It might be the last hurrah for a lot of them; you never know.”
Ron Artest, NBA star on the Los Angeles Lakers is working with 44 Blue Productions on his own reality series, Last Second Shot with Ron Artest. The series follows Artest, who in his past has overcome difficulties, as he works with a team of mental health experts and life coaches to help parolees gain control of their lives and reach their goals.
Casting Call: Project Runway’s spin-off series, Project Accessory airing on Lifetime is casting for its first season. The new series will follow aspiring artists as they create new trends in accessories while competing for a cash grand prize to help them launch their own fashion accessories business. Project Accessory is seeking designers of jewelry, handbags, shoes or other fashion accessories to attend open calls this month in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and New York. Saturday A18-49 Analysis: On a slower-paced Saturday night, FOX won the A18-49 demo with a 0.9/4, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. ABC’s repeat Wipeout went to #1 at 8p with 0.9/4 followed by baseball on FOX at 0.8/4. FOX’s baseball ratings inched up to 0.9/4 to win the 9p hour while Univision’s weekly Sabado Gigante was next at 0.8/3. At 10p, NBC’s second Law & Order: LA encore of the night did best at 1.0/3 with Univision’s Sabado Gigante a step behind at 0.9/3.

FOX had a clean sweep this night with its NASCAR Sprint Cup: Coca-Cola 600 race coverage beginning with a top-rated 2.4/11 at 7p with ABC’s America’s Funniest Home Videos rerun next at 0.8/3. FOX’s NASCAR telecast held steady during 8p with a 2.4/10 while ABC’s second America’s Funniest Home Videos repeat and Univision’s Premios TV tied for #2 at 1.0/4 each. FOX continued to out-pace the competition with more from NASCAR during 9p at 2.4/8 with CBS’ Undercover Boss encore trailing at 1.2/4. FOX’s NASCAR coverage finished the night with a sprint to the end at 3.0/10 and ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition repeat gained some footing to place #2 with a 1.3/4.

Scott Schiller upped to EVP/Digital Media Sales for NBCUniversal Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media (E&DN/IM). Fabrizio Tapia relocates from Buenos Aires where he was SVP/Technology and Operations for TBS Latin America, Inc. to become SVP/US Network Operations at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.). Based now in Atlanta, Fabrizio will head the broadcast operations, engineering, traffic and media management efforts for TBS, Inc.’s US entertainment and animation networks. He reports to Veronica Sheehan, SVP/Global Network Operations and IT, TBS, Inc.
Effective June 13, Steve Swenson becomes SVP/Market Manager of CBS RADIO in Washington, D.C. Steve presently manages CBS RADIO’s news stations in New York (WCBS 880 and 1010 WINS). In this expanded capacity, Steve will also oversee the daily operations of the five varied stations in the DC area: WIAD-FM (Hot AC), WJFK-FM (Sports), WLZL-FM (Spanish), WPGC-FM (Urban) and WHFS-AM (News/Talk).
Sony Pictures Television (SPT) hired Lucia Cottone as SVP/Development and Current Programming, Networks. In her newly-minted role, Lucia will supervise worldwide television development for SPT’s channels globally. In addition, she will manage original programming for SPT’s channels AXN, SET, SPIN, Animax and other related sub-brands throughout the world.
Scott Vila tapped by Syfy to the new position as VP/Current Programming, Scripted. Previously, Scott was involved in the development of such cult TV hits as 24, Dark Angel and Firefly. At Syfy, Scott will spearhead Warehouse 13 in addition to Haven and Being Human. Based in Los Angeles, Scott reports to Erik Storey, SVP/Original Programming.
Patty Gillette named SVP/Brand Activation and Media Partnerships with Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. In her new capacity, Patty will oversee teams in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta. Based in New York, Patty reports to John O’Hara, EVP/GSM of Cartoon Network and Adult Swim Ad Sales and Marketing. Most recently, Patty was VP/Marketing and Promotions for Turner Entertainment Ad Sales.
NBCUniversal promoted Beth Roberts as COO, Universal Cable Productions and EVP/Business Affairs, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and Cable Studios. Beth will take on operational management for the strategic and financial expansion of Universal Cable Productions as well as providing oversight of business affairs for USA Network, Syfy, E! Entertainment, G4, Sleuth, Chiller, Universal HD, UCP and E! production studios. Beth reports to Bonnie Hammer, Chairman.
Six Flags Media Networks added Michael Farrell as Manager/Corporate Alliances; Jay Gerber as AE/Corporate Alliances; and Melissa McLeanas as Partnership Marketing Manager.
Bunim/Murray Productions, a Banijay Group company, is continuing its contract with EVP Scott Freeman. Furthermore, the company elevated two within its development team: Erin Cristall to SVP and Rachel Speiser to VP. The team works on several domestic shows including The Bad Girls Club and Love Games for Oxygen and Saddle Ranch for VH1. Both Erin and Rachel report to Scott Freeman.
