The BBC’s long-standing tradition with the Olympic Games may soon be over. IOC President Jacques Rogge was interviewed in the UK’s Guardian newspaper and stated that all options would be considered for the UK rights to the 2014 Winter Olympics and Summer Games in 2016, potentially ending the BBC’s history with the Games and shifting the event to Pay TV. A senior IOC official told Reuters that bidding for the country’s broadcast rights was under way and would wrap up this week.

The plan for a college football playoff is now two days old and already grumblings have emerged about favoritism. FOX College Football analyst Charles Davis says the controversy of which teams play for the national championship is just starting. “If you thought we had discussions and controversies on who the top teams were before, wait until we try to figure out who the top four are. I don’t think four is the right number. To me it’s 16,” he said. “We don’t even have a committee yet and I’m already hearing people scream there’s going to be bias. The make-up of the committee will be interesting. Should it be coaches? Administrators? Media? That’s going to be a major deal. Everyone brings biases to the table. They need to try to balance the group so that the bias gets balanced naturally.”
Chris Berman is changing it up, for a night at least. The host of Sunday NFL Countdown will join Trent Dilfer to call the Chargers/Raiders as part of ESPN’s Monday Night Football doubleheader on Sept. 10. In preparation for the assignment, Berman and Dilfer will also call the Arizona Cardinals-Tennessee Titans MNF preseason game on Aug. 23 at 8p.

Sunday MLB on TBS will follow the Selection Show at2p with a Yankees hosting the White Sox.
After one-year on local PBS stations, the Southern Conference is ending its relationship with public television and will now be scene only on ESPN3. The conference initially had a three-year plan with public television systems but Commissioner John Iamarino told the Times Free Press that the conference was unable to get the coverage it was looking for.
NBC executives announced that Olympic snowboarding champion Shaun White and late-night host Jimmy Fallon will both take part in the network’s Olympics coverage from London.
Matt Breeden has joined INDYCAR as Vice President of Business Affairs for the organization where he will help lead development of strategic and business plans. Breeden served as Vice President & General Counsel for Champ Car World Series LLC.

Former NFL executive Eddie Jones has passed. Jones spent 10 years as president of the Miami Dolphins and died Wednesday morning, according to the team. Jones was named team president in 1996 and held that position until his retirement following the 2005 season.
FOX Sports and Syndicus Entertainment today announced that FOX Sports Networks (FSN) will be the national television distributor for the first-ever “Battle on the Midway” basketball game set to be held aboard the flight deck of the historic USS Midway Museum anchored in San Diego Harbor. The game is set for Friday, Nov. 9 at 4p and will pit San Diego State against Syracuse in what will be the 2012-13 season opener for both teams. The game will also be televised locally on FOX Sports San Diego, and Dick Enberg will handle play by play.
Sponsorship & Promotion
NBCUniversal and companies from the cable/satellite/telco industry are partnering on a “first-of-its-kind” marketing campaign to educate customers about the verification process needed to stream the Olympics. The spot began airing on cable, satellite and telco systems across the country in mid-June and will continue until the Olympics begin next month. It will also air as part of NBCUniversal’s Olympic cross-channel marketing efforts and on NBCOlympics.com.
The PGA Tour locked in a 10-year deal with Web.com as the sponsor of its developmental tour. The Web.com Tour will now replace what had been known as the Nationwide Tour, and comes four months after the tour renewed its deal for the FedEx Cup.
The 2012 London Games has its official song. Officials announced that the song Survival, from British rock group Muse, would be played during the July 27-Aug. 12 games as athletes enter the venues and before medal ceremonies, according to the AP.
The 83rd All-Star Game continues to gain momentum heading to the wire, with baseball fans casting more than 2.9 million ballots yesterday, the second-highest one-day total in All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot history. The fan turnout was the highest single-day total since the final day of balloting in 2008 and voting wraps up tonight at 11:59p.
