Cynopsis: Sports
06.20.13

Good morning. It’s Thursday, June 20, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

As we head to Game 7 of the NBA Finals, Game 6 continues to leave an impression. ABC drew 20,636,000 viewers for the game, marking the network’s second biggest audience ever for a Game 6, according to Nielsen. That viewership figure also marks the fourth largest audience for any NBA game in ABC’s history and it’s the network’s most-watched non-clinching game telecast ever. The corresponding final national household rating hit a 12.3.

On the digital front, the matchup ranked as the largest NBA game of the season to date and of any NBA Finals game in 2012 on ESPN3 with over 25 million total minutes and an average minute audience of 129,000 across computers, smartphones, tablets and Xbox, according to Adobe Site Catalyst. The 2013 NBA Finals will continue with the decisive Game 7 on Thursday, June 20, at 9p on ABC.

The UFC hit another setback in the promotion’s attempts to legalize MMA in the state of New York with DailyNews.com writing that the bill to legalize the sport, after easily passing in the Senate, would not be brought to the floor yet again for a vote by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silverbefore the current legislative session ends. “If New York’s leaders really do have a commitment to fanning a growing business climate in the state, they have a heck of a way of showing it,” UFC chairman, Lorenzo Fertitta, said in a statement. “We genuinely feel bad for the hotels, restaurants, gyms, and other businesses that support our effort and have championed this cause.”

The second season of espnW’s In the Game with Robin Roberts presented by Lexus will debut tonight, online at espnW.com and abcnews.com, as well as on ESPN’s SportsCenter. In the Game, produced by espnW in partnership with ABC News, is a “series of intimate interviews with top athletes in sports today.” In the season premiere, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts sits down for a one-on-one with NASCAR driver Danica Patrick.

Outdoor Channel is set to carry The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series 2013 U.S. Championship on Sunday at 3p. The event will see the top 20 lumberjack athletes in the country converge on Pigeon Forge, Tenn. to chop and saw for the Championship title, as well as a new Ram truck and the chance to represent the U.S. in the World Championship in Stuttgart, Germany this October. Marketing agency CSE is one of the driving forces behind the series.

MSG Network will debut an all-new original series, dubbed The Bracket presented by Visa, tonight at 10p. The series pits New York’s greatest athletes against each other to determine the best in different categories, beginning with the “Greatest Knick” episode. The program is hosted by comedians Yannis Pappas and Chris Distefano,
