~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Restaurant and bar consultant, Jon Taffer makes over struggling bars and nightclubs in Spike’s TV new series Bar Rescue, premiering July 17 at 10p.  Taffer visits a new bar each week in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia and along with his wife, Nicole and a group of experts revamp failing businesses from top to bottom.  Bar Rescue with ten one-hour episodes is produced by 3 Ball Productions/Eyeworks US.

This Sunday, Telemundo’s mun2, the Hispanic lifestyle cable network aiming at young Latino Americans, bows new reality series Beauties & the Boss at 9p.  The one-hour series follows Monica Weitzel, the Latina CEO of Assorted Flavors Agency, a promotional modeling agency based in Los Angeles.  The series is produced by 8th Wonder and Genius Kitchen for mun2.

HBO debuts the first of ten episodes comprising the eighth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm on July 10.  Joining star Larry David during the new season are appearances by a slew of series veterans including Bob Einstein, Richard Lewis, Rosie O’Donnell, J.B. Smoove and Wanda Sykes in addition to Jonathan Ames, Bill Buckner, Rebecca Creskoff, Gary Cole, Michael J. Fox, Ana Gasteyer, Ricky Gervais, Michael Gross, Harry Hamlin, Larry Miller, Robert Smigel, Aida Turturro, Mookie Wilson and Jo Anne Worley.  

Season two of Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry? opens July 13 at 10p on Investigation Discovery as the new season offers more stories of con men to bigamists fooling the women they purportedly love in each half-hour episode.  Following at 1030p, the network airs a new episode of companion series I Married A Mobster. 

It’s youth against seniors in Discovery Fit & Health’s new series Are You Fitter Than A Senior? premiering June 27 at 8p with a sneak preview airing on June 26 at 11p. Each week, four young adults halt their usual couch potato/junk food lifestyles to get healthy over a week-long period and at the end of the time, they battle against four seniors in a physical challenge to see who is fitter.  

Tuesday’s season premiere of After the Catch at 10p on Discovery Channel delivered a 1.56 rating among A25-54 and a 1.36 rating with A18-49.  Deadliest Catch and After the Catch air back-to-back on Tuesdays starting at 9p.

June is traditionally the month of brides and WE tv’s season eight premiere of Bridezillas last Sunday at 9p attracted 706,000 total viewers; 392,000 W18-49; and 352,000 among W25-54.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Outdoor Channel said its hi-def version Outdoor Channel HD is now reaching 10 million homes throughout the US. 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Production begins June 23 on Bethenny Frankel’s (Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York, Bethenny Getting Married?) talk show pilot at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, reports B&C. Telepictures, behind other talk shows such as Ellen, Lopez Tonight and the upcoming Anderson, is developing Frankel’s show.

Oscar-winning actress Patty Duke tapped for a recurring role on Lifetime’s new series The Protector, cites TVLine.  Duke will play Ally Walker’s mom on the series starting with episode 7.

Casting Call: 51 Minds Entertainment, behind I Love New York and Rock of Love is casting for women in the NY/NJ/CT/PA area who have been, or are currently being cheated on by their husband/finance/boyfriend to appear in a new pilot on behalf of a major network.  The pilot will feature four women revealing their heartbreaking, funny and crazy ways they found out their partner was cheating and what they did next.  To apply, or refer a friend, send an email to Kate at: [email protected] .

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis:   NBC was full of song and dance Tuesday hitting #1 with a 4.2/12 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  NBC had a clean sweep this night starting at 8p with America’s Got Talent winning with a 3.5/11 followed by FOX’s MasterChef at 1.9/6.  At 9p, NBC’s The Voice won with a 4.8/13 and Univision’s Triunfo del Amor was next at 1.6/5.  Then at 10p, the second hour of The Voice stayed on top at 4.4/12 and Univision placed second again, this time with Aqui y Ahora at 1.0/3.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Shine Group expands the roles of Shine Australia and New Zealand joint CEOs Carl and Mark Fennessy by offering them the positions of CEO Shine USA and President, Shine Network respectively.  Carl, as CEO Shine USA will be in charge of the continued commercial strategy for the company, reporting to Emiliano Calemzuk, CEO Shine Group Americas.  Mark assumes the newly-created role of President, Shine Network where he will work with the London-based internal unit heading the development, acceleration and editorial oversight of company formats such as MasterChef, The Biggest Loser and One Born Every Minute.  Mark is based in Sydney. 

nuvoTV, re-launching from its present form as Si TV on July 4, added Randall Lewis as VP/Business and Legal Affairs in charge of all negotiations and production deals, programming acquisition deals, affiliate agreements and overall legal issues.  Randall reports to Michael Schwimmer, CEO.  nuvoTV also hired Steven Ward as Executive Director/Digital Media to manage nuvoTV’s digital efforts and its expansion.  Steven reports to Rafe Oller, SVP/Marketing.

Doug Smith appointed VP/GSM with CBS Studios International, Canada to head the unit’s sales and distribution efforts across all platforms in Canada.  At CBS Studios International, Doug follows Bruce Swanson who announced his retirement after spending 25 years with CBS.  Based in Toronto, Doug reports to Armando Nunez, President, CBS Studios International.

Valarie McCubbins joined Media Storm as Associate Media Director/Digital, effective immediately.  Valarie will head MTV, Fox, Speed and Fuse as well as other accounts.  She reports to Julie Diffenbach, Director/Digital.

Wayne Godsey, President/GM of KMBC-TV (ABC) and KCWE-TV (CW), the Hearst Television Inc.-owned stations in Kansas City announced his retirement later this year.  Wayne has been in his current position since 1999 and his local television career spans more than forty years. Wayne’s replacement will be announced soon.

Pam Hagan elevated to Corporate VP/Human Resources with Bright House Networks.  In her new role, Pam will manage human resources functions for all of Bright House Networks’ markets.  She reports to Steve Miron, CEO.

CBS RADIO Las Vegas employed Dave Sturgeon as GSM for NewsRadio KXNT AM/FM and Reid Reker as GSM for KLUC and KXTE.  Both positions are effective immediately. 

Former Starz executive Marc DeBevoise becomes SVP/GM for CBS Interactive’s Entertainment unit.  Marc will have oversight on CBS Interactive’s entertainment websites encompassing CBS.com, TV.com and Clicker.com in addition to the company’s digital content distribution strategies and the creation of original and show-based digital content, apps and games.

NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and Cable Studios promoted Philip Matthys to SVP/Business Affairs where his scope of duties covers all business affairs activities for USA Network, Syfy and Universal Cable Productions.  Philip continues to report to Beth Roberts, EVP/Business Affairs, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and Cable Studios and COO of Universal Cable Productions.
