~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

ABC introduces Christiane Amanpour as the new host of This Week starting August 1. Amanpour, formerly an international reporter on CNN, is replacing George Stephanopoulos who moved from hosting This Week to Good Morning America last December. In the interim months, ABC enlisted White House correspondent Jack Tapper as host on This Week.

On the eve of its distribution agreement expiring with AT&T U-verse, Rainbow Media Holdings released the following statement:

“Our executives have been at AT&T U-Verse offices for several weeks, doing everything possible to reach an agreement that will keep AMC’s “Mad Men,” and other programming from AMC, WE tv and IFC available to their customers. We have been good partners and have been supportive of AT&T since they launched their U-Verse service. We are proud of the programming that we produce at our networks, which has created great value for AT&T. We have agreements with every other television provider in the country and have never had our networks dropped in more than 25 years. We are disappointed that AT&T is publicly threatening to take away our networks, including AMC’s “Mad Men,” just days before the season premiere.”

Last Friday, AT&T told its two million customers it would drop Rainbow Media’s networks AMC, WE tv and IFC if a new distribution deal was not reached by midnight ET yesterday. Also yesterday, AT&T offered this statement:

“We are making every effort to reach a fair agreement and continue providing these channels to our customers. It’s unfortunate that Rainbow Media, owned by Cablevision, is clearly not negotiating in good faith, is trying to charge significantly more than the average of what our TV competitors pay for these channels, and is acting in a way that harms competition and limits consumer choice.”

GolTV, the independent bilingual channel all about soccer, premieres the new half-hour weekly series Oh My Gol! beginning next Tuesday at 730p. The new show, featuring commentary from the network’s soccer analysts Ray Hudson and Omar Fuentes, serves up a countdown of the week’s top five game highlights as well as funny bloopers caught on tape.

BIO’s new series Aftermath with William Shatner debuts August 2 at 10p. Shatner, as host and show creator, will closely examine stories involving ordinary people who were suddenly and sometime tragically thrust into the media limelight and became household names overnight. Shatner will interview headliners such as Jessica Lynch, Bernhard Goetz, the DC Snipers, Mary Kay Letourneau and others involved in each situation going beyond the original event to find out how each person is doing today. The one-hour series is produced by GRB Entertainment.

Nat Geo WILD goes under the cover of darkness in urban areas to find exotic animals in the new series Wild Nights with Mireya Mayor opening August 9 at 9p. The series follows primatologist and National Geographic Explorer Mireya Mayor as she takes flashlights and night vision equipment into the swamps and back alleys of well-known cities on the search for wild animals from feral hogs to giant Burmese pythons. The opening episode explores New Orleans followed by Miami on August 16 and Rio de Janeiro on August 23. The series is produced for Nat Geo WILD by National Geographic Television, Inc.

USA Network’s original series premiere of Covert Affairs drew in 2.1 million A18-49 viewers Tuesday night at 10p, making it the #1 new scripted series premiere so far this year in this demo. Covert Affairs also delivered 2.3 million A25-54 and 4.9 million total viewers. Also on Tuesday, the second season launch of White Collar at 9p posted 1.6 million A18-49 viewers; 1.8 million among A25-54; and 4.3 million total viewers.

MTV ended its series The Hills on Tuesday at 10p with the half-hour episode delivering a 2.8 rating with P12-34 and a 4.4 rating with F12-34 and also averaging close to 3.0 million total viewers. Following at 1030p, the season conclusion of The City pulled in a 2.2 rating among P12-34 and an average of 2.3 million total viewers.

TeleFutura delivered 1.4 million total viewers and 902,000 A18-49 viewers for the premiere of its new series Rosario Tijeras airing last Monday at 10p.
