E! continues to expand the Kardashian TV series franchise with a new eight-episode series featuring Khloe Kardashian and her husband LA Lakers star Lamar Odom. Khloe & Lamar (wt), launching early this year, will allow viewers inside the couple’s private home life that they also share with Khloe’s brother Robert Kardashian. The series is produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and Bunim-Murray Productions.

TLC introduces a new daytime cooking series when Kitchen Boss debuts January 24. With a total of 40 half-hour episodes, Kitchen Boss showcases Cake Boss’ Buddy Valastro as he shares traditional Italian recipes. TLC will air a sneak preview of Kitchen Boss following the finale of Valastro’s competition show Next Great Baker on January 24 at 1030p. Kitchen Boss will then air in its regular daytime slot of 530p beginning January 25. Valastro will do triple duty on TLC as he continues headlining his primetime series Cake Boss for a fourth season premiering January 31 at 9p. Cake Boss and Kitchen Boss are produced for TLC by High Noon Entertainment.

HISTORY debuts the new one-hour series, Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy on February 8 at 9p. The series reveals surprising facts about America’s history as host Larry the Cable Guy travels the nation from coast to coast. Pilgrim Films & Television and Parallel Entertainment produce the series for HISTORY.

Spike TV’s upcoming one-hour docu-series Coal, taking a never-before-seen look inside the dangerous world of coal mining, is set to premiere on March 30. Produced by Thom Beers and his Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company, the original series looks at the coal mining business through Mike Crowder and Tom Roberts, the partial owners of Cobalt Mine in Westchester, West Virginia.

Discovery Channel brings back a sixth season of Man vs. Wild following survival expert and extreme adventurer Bear Grylls as he takes on new challenges and shares his survival knowledge in Norway, Scotland, Borneo and more. Six new episodes open February 17 at 9p. Diverse Productions produces the series for Discovery Channel.

ABC Daytime and cable network TV Land are partnering on a storyline cross-over featuring characters from ABC’s All My Children and TV Land’s original series Hot in Cleveland. The cross-over centers on a storyline from the first season of Hot in Cleveland where Wendie Malick’s character, former soap star Victoria Chase targets real-life soap star Susan Lucci. In two Hot in Cleveland episodes airing February 16 and 23 at 10p All My Children’s Susan Lucci, Michael E. Knight and Darnell Williams appear as themselves. In turn, Wendie Malick will appear as her character Victoria Chase playing a housekeeper named Gertie on an episode of All My Children airing on February 24 at 1p.

CNBC is airing the original documentary The Facebook Obsession tonight at 9p and also at 10p, 12a and 1a. The network will encore the documentary again this Friday at 8p, Saturday at 7p and also on Sunday at 10p.

Next Monday, CNN en Espanol launches Showbiz, a new one-hour daily entertainment program airing Monday-Friday at 3p.  The show is hosted by Juan Carlos Arciniegas based in Hollywood and Mariela Encarnacion in Miami as they offer news on celebrities in a roundtable discussion format similar to the English-language program Showbiz Tonight airing on sister network HLN.

The Style Network renewed its docu-soap series Jerseylicious for a third season consisting of 20 one-hour episodes. Produced by Endemol USA, the third season of Jerseylicious will premiere during second quarter 2011. Currently, season two of Jerseylicious airs on Style Sundays at 8p.

ESPN 3D will air content 24-hours a day starting February 14. A year after launching in January 2010, ESPN 3D, beginning next month, will air encore ESPN 3D events when the network is not airing a live event.

Twentieth Television sold the ABC comedy series Modern Family, produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television in a total of 33 markets, representing 50% of the US. Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution reported a further 25 stations have signed on to air the new syndicated daily talk show Anderson when it launches fall 2011. To date, 104 television stations have cleared the show representing more than 82% of the US. Half-hour syndicated series Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford, in its 13th season on 200+ stations nationally and distributed by Danny Lipford Media is now available for cable. Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford, features home expert Danny Lipford as he works on remodeling projects, offers renovation tips and current trends. First-run episodes and a library of 30m episodes as well as online videos and other resources are available to a cable network.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:  NBC rang in the New Year in #1 Saturday night among A18-49 at 1.9/5, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. NBC skated to the top of the pack during 8p with its NHL match at 1.9/5 and FOX’s double Cops repeat episodes averaged a second place with 1.6/4. NBC remained in first place during 9p with more NHL action at 1.8/5 while FOX’s America’s Most Wanted was a mere tenth of a rating point behind at 1.7/5. NBC finished off a final win of the night at 10p with the NHL Washington at Pittsburgh game at 1.9/5 and CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery repeat followed at 1.5/4.

Tuesday  A18-49 Analysis: NBC was the biggest winner overall Tuesday night among A18-49 at 2.9/8, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. The season premiere of The Biggest Loser on NBC won the 8p hour at 2.9/8 while the series debut of Live To Dance on CBS was second at 2.4/6. At 9p, the second hour of NBC’s The Biggest Loser opener surged upward to a 3.5/9 followed by the second hour of CBS’ Live To Dance premiere at 2.4/6 and the new season launch of V on ABC in third at 2.1/5. NBC polished off the final win of the night during 10p with Parenthood delivering a 2.3/6 with a repeat of NCIS on CBS at #2 with a 1.7/5.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Mark Arminio appointed to VP/Sales at WWJ-TV (CBS) and WKBD-TV (The CW) in Detroit, effective January 10. Both stations are part of the CBS Television Stations group. Mark will be in charge of all sales efforts for the CBS and The CW affiliates.

Jonas Larsen joins Comedy Central as VP/Specials to oversee original comedy special productions for the network including the Comedy Central Roast franchise and The Comedy Awards. Jonas will be based at the network’s California offices reporting to Elizabeth Porter, SVP/Specials and Talent.

CNN promoted Tom Goldstone to Executive Producer of Fareed Zakaria GPS up from Senior Producer of the show. Fareed Zakaria GPS airs Sundays on CNN/US at 10a and 1p and via CNN International at 8a and 3p.

Bo Kaprall named EVP/Production and Development at Minneapolis-based NTC Productions, the company behind new syndicated sketch comedy series M@dAbout.

Vme TV hired Patty Marrero as SVP/Advertising Sales in December. Prior to this new position, Patty was with Univision Communications for 11 years in various roles including most recently as VP/Client Development (UCI). 

AgencyNet added four top-level executives to its team:

  • Matthew Tepper as VP/Business Strategy in charge of spurring the company’s Business Insights and Analytics practice to continue optimization and effectiveness of the agency’s work. Matthew joins from Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal & Partners where he was Executive Director/Strategy and Analytics.
  • Valerie Brown as VP/Client Strategy to manage communications, activation and partnership strategy coming from Bravo where she served as Director/Consumer Marketing.
  • Michael Brady as VP/Client Services to expand the agency’s increasing client portfolio in the digital arena. Michael previously worked at Code and Theory as VP/Client Engagement.
  • Ty Wong as Creative Director to lead a diverse team including technologists, storytellers, designers and strategists working on introducing brands for the digital world. Ty previously worked at JWT, THIS IS RED and Cartoon Network and he taught advertising and design at The Portfolio Center and Creative Circus.

Telemundo tapped Marty Sokoler as VP/Sales for its station KVEA/Los Angeles and Diana Fernandez as VP/Sales for WSNS/Chicago. Both Marty and Diana will supervise all facets of the sales operations at their respective stations. Their roles encompass local business development, local sales efforts and sales promotions as well as developing new partnerships and working with clients and advertising agencies.

Robin Agranoff elevated to VP/Programming with Disney Channels. Robin will continue to head programming planning and scheduling for the Disney Channel in addition to Playhouse Disney, which will soon be rebranded as Disney Junior and ABC Kids. Robin reports to Paul DeBenedittis, SVP/Programming Strategy, Disney Channels Worldwide.

Former TV Editor at Variety, Michael Schneider moves to TV Guide Magazine to become Los Angeles Bureau Chief beginning January 24. Michael will manage the magazine’s West Coast bureau, oversee breaking news and feature stories.
