~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Northwest Broadcasting and DirecTV are in the midst of a retransmission consent dispute which resulted in several FOX stations going dark since early January for DirecTV subscribers.  The Northwest Broadcasting stations affected include WICZ-WBPN/Binghamton, NY; KMVU/Medford, OR; KFFX/Yakima; and KAYU/Spokane.  Currently, the two entities are not speaking and no negotiations are scheduled.

Trifecta Entertainment & Media sold the half-hour reality/relationship strip, Geek Meets Girl to eight CBS O&Os including KCAL/Los Angeles, KBCW/San Francisco, KTXA/Dallas, KSTW/Seattle, WKBC/Detroit and KMAX/Sacramento.  The syndicated show was also picked up on another dozen stations.

CBS Television Distribution (CTD) cleared the new first-run syndicated strip Excused in 80% of the US and the show is sold in 46 of the top 50 markets.  The show will launch this fall and was sold on a cash plus barter basis into mostly late fringe and access time periods.  Excused is produced by Renegade 83 Entertainment.

Target Entertainment, with offices in the UK and US, sold several factual shows to Current TV in the UK and US and to National Geographic Channel for its various international channels.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) is working with Ridley and Tony Scott and their production company, Scott Free Inc. along with Headline Pictures and Sennet Entertainment on the production of The Drivers, a series based on the legendary 24-hour motor race in Le Mans set in the 1950s-1960s.  Ridley and Tony Scott are co-producing the drama series with Headline Pictures and Sennet Entertainment while FME is funding the project based on the book, Shelby: The Man, The Cars, The Legend by Wallace A. Wyss and optioned from Iconografix.  The true story depicts the young drivers from the US, Germany, France, Italy and the UK, all friends and rivals as they compete and risk everything to win the iconic race.

Lionsgate made a multi-media deal with lifestyle brand Booty Parlor and its founder Dana B. Myers.  The agreement covers television, DVD, digital and international distribution rights to Booty Parlor’s inaugural book, The Official Booty Parlor Mojo Makeover: Four Weeks to a Sexier You published by Harper Collins and launching this week.  The initial project in development is a reality TV series featuring Myers as an on-camera expert.  Myers co-executive produces the project along with Charlie Myers and David Tenzer and Jared Hoffman of Generate.

NBC okayed four comedy pilots:

  • Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea is inspired by the life of Chelsea Handler and her autobiography of the same name about a group of 20-somethings living and working together and led by a very outspoken young woman.  Handler, Tom Werner, Mike Clements and Tom Brunelle will all executive produce along with Julie Larson and Dottie Dartland Zicklin.  Larson and Zicklin wrote the pilot.  Warner Bros. Television, Good Humor Television and Borderline Amazing Productions are producing.
  • Untitled project from Wendy Cummings is about a young couple and the travails of a modern-day committed relationship.  Cummings wrote and will serve as co-executive producer for the multi-camera project.
  • Jack Black is behind My Life as an Experiment based on the book by A.J. Jacobs about a magazine writer who puts himself and his family in unusual situations for his pieces.  Black executive produces with Carolyn Bernstein, Howard Owens, Ben Cooley and Priyanka Mattoo. Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith penned the script and will also executive produce.
