The soundtrack to Touchstone Pictures new animated feature film Gnomeo & Juliet will be released by Buena Vista Records on February 8, 2011. The album is comprised of 14-tracks and features nine new and well-known songs by the songwriting team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and performed by John. Tracks on release include the new songs Hello Hello and Love Builds a Garden, along with a version of Crocodile Rock, performed as a duet with Nellie Furtado, as well as Bennie and the Jets, Tiny Dancer, Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting among others. The score also features songs by composer James Newton Howard (Pretty Woman, The Fugitive, Michael Clayton) and Chris Bacon (Space Chimps, Waking Sleeping Beauty). Set to release in the US on February 11, 2011, Gnomeo & Juliet is produced by Baker Bloodworth, Steve Hamilton Shaw and David Furnish, with Elton John serving as Executive Producer.

TELETOON presents a March Break from Reality starting March 14-18. The programming lineup includes the world broadcast premiere of the animated film Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare on March 15 at 630p with an encore airing on March 18 at 4p. Other specials during the week include Scooby-Doo specials and a sneak preview of the first four episodes of the new original series My Babysitter’s A Vampire and hosted segments throughout the week by the series’ cast members.
Lionsgate plans to release the feature film The Hunger Games on March 23, 2012, per Heat Vision. Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) will direct the movie, which is based on The Hunger Games, the first book in Suzanne Collins’ hugely popular young adult Hunger Games trilogy. The Hunger Games (2008), along with books two and three Catching Fire (2009) and Mockingjay (2010), are published in the US by Scholastic. In addition to writing young adult and kids books, including The Underland Chronicles, Collins written for a number of kids/tween TV series including Clarissa Explains It All, Little Bear, Oswald, and she served as head writer on Clifford’s Puppy days. The big question for fans (like me) still remains … who will play the story’s central figure, 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen?
Dad Blog DadDoes.com will provide coverage of the International Toy Fair this week with product reviews penned by parents.
Disney Channel debuts the second season of its kids, tween and family series Good Luck Charlie on February 20 at 8p. The comedy is about a lively family of six especially the antics of two-year-old Charlie. Good Luck Charlie is the #2 series across all television for 2010 among Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14. Additionally in March, the cast of Good Luck Charlie commences production on the yet-to-be-titled holiday themed Disney Channel Original Movie based on the series slated to premiere this winter. Good Luck Charlie is produced by It’s A Laugh Productions, Inc.
The latest volume in the best-selling KIDZ BOP audio series (www.kidzbop.com) has sold 70,097 units in its first week and has entered The Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at #2—the 12th KIDZ BOP title to debut in Top 10 since the series launched in 2001.
Although women have historically been the target demo for household-related online advertising, Yahoo‘s new “Digital Dads” study shows there has been a drastic increase in the number of hours men spend on childcare along with the number of stay-at-home-dads. The data suggests that Dads actually enjoy shopping more than moms, are more likely buy premium brands, are less likely to return things and are more swayed by online research. About 68% of those surveyed said online ads are a great way to learn about things (compared to 61% of moms). Nearly half of dads used their mobile phones to shop for one of 12 categories – 12% used it to find packaged food and beverage product information, 11% for baby products and 16% for personal care products.

A new user-generated content program has been developed by the Girl Scouts of the USA and Unilever’s Dove, asking young girls to share their personal stories about how the Scouts have helped them gain confidence and improve their lives. The “Girl Scout Leadership Experience, ” which builds upon a partnership with Dove that dates back to 2002, will culminate in the publication of six age appropriate “leadership journeys” developed for girls grades K-12 and is accompanied by corresponding adult guides.

Steve Waterman, Executive Producer of Alvin & the Chipmunks, Stuart Little and Casper launches Babblemania Spanish, a new kids’ language learning app. The new fully animated app teaches Spanish through games and is the first in a series of language apps with future apps featuring Mandarin, French, Japanese, Korean and German. The app is priced at $2.99 and includes the first four games teaching kids names of fruits and vegetables. The advanced fifth game will teach kids how to use fruit and vegetable names in conversation. Waterman worked with Alison Mackey, Ph.D, a professor of linguistics and author of five books and the game design is from Lucas Learning/Lucasfilm and Rockstar Games.
Boston-based dad and businessman Marc Cooper and his wife, Diana invented the Doodle Roll which will be on display at the American International Toy Fair in Booth #6270. The Doodle Roll is a portable roll ‘n go dispenser of blank paper with tear edges along with a crayon storage area.

Boys are obsessed with playing games on digital devices but girls say they want to multitask, engaging in chat, game play, sharing and music at the same time, according to a new report from research firm PlayScience. Boys, aged 6-14, call and text on cell phones, interact on social networks and chat while gaming as much as girls, but they tend to spend much more time immersed in games. On the other hand, girls say they want to engage in a host in activities via consoles and mobile apps, but they too tend also primarily play games in practice. “We think that this disconnect speaks to the continued gap in the potential of console platforms, games, and applications in reaching girls,” says PlayScience president Dr. J. Alison Bryant.
The day after President Obama called for educators to utilize digital publishing textbooks to engage students, Florida approved the Discovery Education Science Elementary Techbook for use in Florida classrooms. The state joins Indiana, Louisiana and Oregon in adopting the service, intended to replace traditional textbooks as the primary instructional resource for elementary schools.
