Casting / Development / Production

  • UPN has ordered up a pilot called Crazy (Spelling TV) centered on a female psychiatrist.
  • Fox has picked up a drama pilot called Brennan (20th) about a forensic anthropologist, the key character in the set of novels by author Kathy Reichs.
  • NBC has made a cast contingent deal for a project called  Filmore Middle (NBC Universal), written by Matt Tarses, is set in a public middle school.
  • Drama pilot Briar & Graves (20th) has been picked up by Fox, about a priest and a doctor who investigate religious phenomena.

ABC has scheduled the premiere of Eyes (McNamara Paper Products/Warner Bros. TV) starring Tim Daly for Wednesdays at 10p beginning April 13, following Lost and Alias.   The action takes place in a risk management company where the risks are high and the staff walks a tightrope between the legal and illegal.

Fox’s American Idol dominated the night on Tuesday in the final analysis of A18-49 ratings from Nielsen Media Research posting a 12.1/31 A18-49 rtg.  For the hour, the competition was non-existent, with the “strongest” competitor being NCIS on CBS with a 2.6/7.  At 9p, reaping the benefits of Idol, House led with a 5.0/12, with the closest competition coming again from CBS with Amazing Race (4.7/11).  At 10p an original ep of L&O: SVU led with a 5.4/14.

  • Rumors abound as to where HBO’s The Sopranos will end up and for how much.  Current skinny suggests TNT, or perhaps Spike or A&E.  And current dollars are looking north of $2 million per episode.  An announcement is expected by week’s end.  HBO is offering 78 eps for Fall 2006.

ReelTime Rentals, Inc. has outlined its plan to expand its services with the launch of Rental-on-Demand, a network which will offer media content previously available on TV.   Rental-on-Demand will include digital content on various special interest program topics.  ReelTime is currently in the process of selecting content for the initial launch of the new service.  ReelTime Rentals, Inc., will rent movies in real-time consumers nationwide, in turn customers will have access to a large range of “DVD-quality full-screen movies” in their homes.  ReelTime will provide this service using Intelligent Rapid Delivery System to help prevent piracy.  ReelTime’s IRDS was created through technology acquired from Communications Technologies, Inc.

Michael Beller has been upped to SVP/Business and Legal Affairs for the National Geographic Channel (NGC).  He is responsible for all day-to-day business and legal matters involving programming, marketing and operations.
