Based on its ratings success, VH1 is adding a half-hour post-show to its series Mob Wives beginning this Sunday.  Titled Mob Wives: The Sit Down, the show will air at 9p directly following the one-hour reality series Mob Wives.  The post-show is hosted by VH1’s Carrie Keagan and will feature two or three of the wives each week in addition to a celebrity guest to discuss the episode immediately after it airs.  The post-show will also include some exclusive behind-the-scenes information. VH1 has initially ordered 7 episodes of the post-show which is produced by TWC, Electus, Left/Right and JustJenn Productions, the companies behind Mob Wives the future series Mob Wives: Chicago.

Next month, HISTORY introduces viewers to men in Oklahoma who compete in a cultural hand-fishing method where they are known as “mudcatters.”  The series Mudcats will follow this group of men passionate about hand-fishing who have been taught the art from their fathers and grandfathers and intend to pass the method down to their sons and daughters and grandchildren.  Mudcats will open on February 9 at 10p following the season three premiere of Swamp People at 9p.  Mudcats is produced by Original Media for HISTORY.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

A pilot nod was given to First Cut, a drama with comedic elements by The CW.   The plot is about a young female doctor who is excited about her new future in the adult professional world.  CBS Television Studios is producing.  Jennie Snyder Urman is penning the script and will be an executive producer along with Dan Jinks.

FOX handed Bill Lawrence a pilot order for a single-camera comedy project titled Like Father inspired by his own relationship with his father.  Lawrence will write, direct and be an executive producer; Jeff Ingold will also serve as an EP.  Warner Bros. Television is producing.

ABC is moving forward with its own Beauty and the Beast pilot, a week after The CW ordered a pilot also based on Beauty and the Beast.  ABC’s version is from Jonathan Steinberg and is described as a fantasy re-telling of the classic fairy tale set in a mythical world where a beautiful princess makes an unlikely connection with a mysterious beast.  The CW’s version is loosely based on CBS’ 1987 TV series that was helmed by Linda Hamilton.

Executive producer Simon Cowell, behind The X Factor, American Idol and America’s Got Talent among others is developing another reality competition series, this time an untitled project searching for the world’s best DJ.  Cowell’s company, SYCO Entertainment is working with Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television to premiere the format which will be shopped internationally and in the US.

USA Network is getting into reality programming with the pick-up of the original series The Moment (wt).  The nine-episode series will premiere in third quarter 2012 hosted by NFL Star and Super Bowl MVP Kurt Warner.  The series focuses on men and women on a life-changing journey as they are given a second chance to achieve their career dream.  Warner himself experienced this as he went from bagging groceries to becoming the Super Bowl MVP in just 18 months.  The series is produced by The Hochberg Ebersol Company.  Charlie Ebersol and Justin Hochberg will serve as executive producers.

Actor Erik Todd Dellums was tapped to narrate Investigation Discovery’s series Killer Trials: Judgment Day.  The network gave the half-hour true-crime series a 26-episode order and will premiere it on February 3 at 10p and 1030p.  The series is produced by World Media Rights and distributed by IMG under the name Great Crimes and Trials.

Cinemax ordered a crime drama series titled Banshee from Alan Ball.  The premium network gave Banshee 10 episodes and Ball will serve as executive producer.
