TLC is giving reality star Kate Gosselin a new television series scheduled to launch this spring. Details about the new untitled reality show are scarce, though TLC executives did say it will not include Gosselin’s eight children.

truTV keeps NFL action front and center with its new series NFL Full Contact premiering the day after the Super Bowl on February 8 at 10p. NFL Full Contact, produced for truTV by NFL Films, takes viewers inside the operations of pro football from draft day to the Super Bowl.

Syfy’s Ghost Hunters opens a sixth season on March 3 at 9p with a live two-hour interactive episode as the team investigates Alcatraz along with special host Josh Gates of Destination Truth. Also this premiere episode marks the 100th telecast of Ghost Hunters. Then on March 17, Syfy goes to Ireland in search of leprechauns as new episodes of Destination Truth debut at 10p. Ghost Hunters is produced in association with Pilgrim Films and Television while Destination Truth is from Ping Pong Productions.

Lifetime brings back a fourth season of Army Wives beginning April 11 at 10p with 18 new episodes. Produced by ABC Studios, the third season of Army Wives was the highest-rated for the series among total viewers, A18+ and W25-34 and became the most-watched season in history with W25-34.

It was revealed yesterday Michael C. Hall, star of Showtime’s Dexter is battling cancer. According to his publicist, the actor is undergoing treatments for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, is now in total remission. Hall is expected to resume production on the fifth season of Dexter yet this year. He will also be attending both the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday as well as the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Starting yesterday, Comcast launched ESPN On Demand showcasing such programming as sports documentaries from ESPN’s 30 for 30 film series, college football, the World Series of Poker, the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, classic boxing matches and college basketball conference games.

Epix made its third distribution deal, signing with Mediacom Communications, the nation’s seventh-largest cable television provider. Earlier this week Epix announced a carriage deal with Cox Communications.  Both deals begin in April.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

MTV gave a 12-episode order for a new non-scripted series titled The World of Jenks. The series follows documentary filmmaker Andrew Jenks as he takes on the persona of a different real-life person each week such as a rapper to a homeless teenager. Jenks is executive producing with Mike Powers, Brent Haynes and Brooke Posch. MTV also approved two other series set to launch this summer, Hard Times and Warren the Ape.

Effective immediately, CBS News appointed Russ Mitchell as National Correspondent. Russ will continue as anchor of the CBS Evening News Sunday Edition and Correspondent for CBS News Sunday Morning.

Tuesday  A18-49 Analysis: FOX called the shots Tuesday night winning hugely among A18-49 at 11.8/29, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, a new season of American Idol on FOX kicked off with a 10.9/28 with CBS’ NCIS trailing at #2 with 4.3/11. FOX’s American Idol moved up to a solid 12.7/31 during 9p as NBC’s The Biggest Loser was second at 3.3/8. CBS finished the night in #1 through 10p for The Good Wife at 3.0/8 while NBC’s The Jay Leno Show came next at 1.8/5.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

News Corporation revealed a new upper management structure designed to streamline the company’s entertainment and sports television operations.

  • Peter Rice, Chairman/Entertainment, Fox Networks Group will now head Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX) and FX Networks, consisting of FX and the Fox Movie Channel. Peter will continue to report to Tony Vinciquerra, Chairman/CEO, Fox Networks Group (FNG).
  • David Hill, Chairman/CEO, FOX Sports will oversee all sports operations encompassing FOX Sports, FOX’s 19 regional sports networks, The Fox Soccer Channel, SPEED, Fox Sports en Espanol and FUEL TV. David also continues to report to Tony Vinciquerra.
  • John Landgraf, President/GM of FX Networks will report to Peter Rice. Those reporting to David Hill include Randy Freer, President, Fox Sports Networks; David Nathanson, EVP/GM, Fox Soccer Channel; Hunter Nickell, President, SPEED; Dermot McQuarrie and Raul De Quesada, SVP and Co-Assistant GMs, Fox Sports en Espanol; and CJ Olivares, SVP/GM, FUEL TV.
  • Presently, Rich Battista, President, Fox National Cable Networks is talking with News Corp. about a possible new role with the company.

TV Guide Network announced Diane Robina will become EVP/Development, Acquisitions and Programming Strategy while retaining her current role as President of FEARnet. In her new role at TV Guide Network, Diane will have responsibility over the development and execution of the network’s programming strategy involving acquisitions, original series and specials.  Congratulations Diane!

Lionsgate tapped Peter Iacono as Managing Director/International Television, effective immediately. In his new position based in Los Angeles, Peter will lead all international distribution, sales and marketing as well as third party acquisitions for the group’s programming. Additionally, Peter will supervise international format sales and production.

Jillianne Reinseth was added at Cookie Jar Entertainment as VP/Development. Jillianne will be the development executive in Canada for all programming emanating from Cookie Jar Entertainment as well as its teen and adult label, The Jar.

Tisha Neufville was hired by the research consultancy firm THREE as SVP. Tisha will be in charge of developing and managing qualitative and quantitative reports for the company’s clients.

Broadcast lighting design firm, The Lighting Design Group tagged Peter Smith as Project Manager.

USA Network promoted Meghan Hooper as Director/Program Acquisitions and Administration. In her new role, Meghan will supervise the inventory management of all series and movies for USA, Sleuth and Universal HD. Her duties also include managing usage of USA’s product across NBCU’s channels and she will continue to work on proformas and offer letters.

Jennifer Marino was named Senior Partner, Director/Consumer Insights at MediaCom for its US base. In this position, Jennifer will concentrate on leading the company’s consumer insights division. She reports to Euan Jarvie, Chief Client Officer.

ComStar Media, owner of AmericanLife TV Network, FamilyNet TV and FamilyNet Radio has employed Ryland Reed as EVP/Business Development. Ryland is charged with developing a $50 million production fund to continue ComStar’s media ownership expansion plans. Ryland joins ComStar Media from Bernstein Global Wealth Management where he served as VP/Financial Advisor for the last three years.
