Tonight’s Premieres:
Comedy Central: Important Things with Demetri Martin at 10p; The Sarah Silverman Program at 1030p
After debuting the sixth and final season of Lost Tuesday night, ABC announced the series will end its run on May 23 with a two-hour episode beginning at 9p, preceded by a one-hour recap special at 8p. Tuesday’s sixth season opener of Lost was seen by 12.1 million total viewers, an increase of +6% over the most recent two-hour season premiere on January 21, 2009. In addition, the Lost season opener increased among A18-49 viewers by +10% and received a +20% bump among A18-34 viewers.
FUEL TV opens the new series The Moto: Inside The Outdoors about the world of motocross racing on February 17 at 8p. The original series, from motocross filmographer Troy Adamitis, introduces viewers to the top racers in the sport including Ryan Villopoto, Mike Alessi, Josh Grant, Ryan Dungey, Chad Reed, Andrew Short and others.
HGTV gets into the marriage market with a new weekly series Marriage Under Construction, premiering March 16 at 11p. The series follows newlywed couple Natalie and Rod as they buy, renovate and decorate their first home with the help of an expert foreman and an up-and-coming designer.
VH1’s upcoming new series Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business following superstar sibling duo Brandy and Ray J Norwood, opens April 11 at 9p. Taking viewers inside the tight-knit family and their business, Rn’B Productions, the series features the brother/sister duo, their mother Sonja and father, Willie. The series is created and executive produced by Mark Cronin and Cris Abrego for 51 Minds Entertainment, an Endemol Company.
Dish Network, gaming company Oberon Media and the Tetris Company are partnering to launch an interactive TV game service in the US, Tetris TV. The new service will be available to Dish subscribers for $2.99 per month, giving them an opportunity to play two versions of the game Marathon and 40 Lines. Oberon plans on developing additional partners worldwide.
BET reported the series premiere of The Michael Vick Project on Tuesday at 10p and its encore airings attracted 2.8 million total viewers.
TeleFutura’s premiere of El Capo on Monday at 7p drew in 650,000 A18-49 viewers and nearly 1.1 million total viewers. El Capo airs Monday-Friday at 7p.
Liberman Broadcasting, Inc. (LBI Media) is purchasing KWHD-TV based in Englewood, CO and licensed to serve the Denver market from LeSEA Broadcasting Corporation. This station purchase boosts LBI Media’s O&O television station group to eight stations and increases the reach of the company’s Hispanic broadcast network Estrella TV to approximately 70% of the US Hispanic population. Denver is the nation’s fifteenth largest Hispanic TV market, representing more than 234,000 Latino TV households.
The CW okayed a trio of pilots, all produced by Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios:
- HMS – From writer Amy Holden Jones (Mystic Pizza), this series follows the freshman class at Harvard Medical School through the perspective of one young female student. Holden Jones wrote the script and is executive producing with Heroes star Hayden Panettiere as co-executive producer.
- Hellcats – An ensemble project set in the world of competitive cheerleading. Kevin Murphy is writing the script and executive producing with Tom Welling, star of Smallville.
- Betwixt – Based on a novel by the same name, this project is about changelings in a city who are charged with saving humans from evil. Elizabeth Chandler wrote the script and is executive producing with Paul Stupin.
CBS approved a comedy pilot helmed by Rob Riggle, a former correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. Team Spitz is a multi-camera ensemble comedy about a high school football coach (Riggle). Sony TV developed the project and is executive producing with CBS Television Studios. Bill Martin and Mike Schiff wrote the script and are executive producing with Tantamount’s Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum and Mitch Hurwitz in addition to Peter Principato and Paul Young.
Virginia Madsen is set to star in ABC’s upcoming dramedy series Scoundrels. The eight-episode series is slated to premiere this summer about a family of criminals with Madsen portraying the matriarch who decides it is time for the family to go legit after her husband is sentenced to a long prison term. ABC Studios is producing the series based on a New Zealand series called Outrageous Fortune; Richard Levine and Lyn Greene (Nip/Tuck) penned Scoundrels and will be executive producers/showrunners.
Former Scrubs star Sarah Chalke will headline another comedy for ABC, this time the comedy pilot Freshmen from Greg Malins (How I Met Your Mother) and Arianna Huffington. 20th TV produces the multi-camera comedy about three freshmen members of Congress who live together in Washington, D.C. Chalke will play the lone woman, Jane living with two male congress members.
FOX handed a presentation order to a sketch comedy series titled Naked But Funny from executive producers Peter Engel and Barry Katz (Last Comic Standing), cites Variety. Casting is underway and production could begin in March. Peter Engel Productions and New Wave Entertainment are producing.
HBO is teaming again with Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg and Doug Ellin (Entourage) to develop an untitled political series about a young political aide and his relationship with the former President of the US, reports Variety. Ben Schwerin is penning the script and will be co-executive producer; Ellin, Levinson and Wahlberg will all executive produce.
Evan Farmer, formerly the host and handyman on TLC’s series While You Were Out, becomes the new host of CMT Top 20 Countdown on CMT, beginning this Friday at 11a. The program is rebroadcast throughout the weekend.
Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX found its way to the top Tuesday night with the A18-49 demo at 6.4/16, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. FOX’s American Idol rose to the challenge during 8p, winning with 9.0/23 with CBS’ NCIS in second at 4.3/11. At 9p, the final sixth season premiere of Lost on ABC was #1 with 5.6/14 with FOX’s Kitchen Nightmares in #2 with 3.8/9. ABC’s Lost held its position through 10p at 5.4/14 while NBC’s The Biggest Loser was next at 3.8/10 and CBS’ The Good Wife fell to third place at 2.6/7.

MediaVest added Steven Wolfe Pereira as SVP/Managing Director of Forty-Two Degrees, effective immediately. Steven will supervise the company’s multicultural marketing unit in tandem with SVP/Managing Director, Caleb Windover. Specifically, Steven will head holistic multicultural communications planning for the agency in addition to being the multicultural lead on the Kraft Foods One Team. Based in New York, Steven reports to Monica Gadsby, CEO of SMG Multicultural/Latin America.
MTV Networks Latin America named Carole Bardasano as Senior Director/Programming and Acquisitions for MTV and VH1 Latin America. Carole’s responsibilities include developing and executing programming goals and finding and acquiring content for the channels. Furthermore, Carole will oversee the network’s local programming strategies in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico. Based in Miami, Carole reports to Fernando Gaston, SVP/Content MTV and VH1 Latin America.
Kathy Page joins Hasbro Studios as VP/Production to supervise programming production emanating from Hasbro Studios. Most of this new programming is earmarked for The Hub, the new TV network launching in the fall by Hasbro and Discovery Communications, as well as international markets. Previously, Kathy worked for Sony Pictures Television where she served as VP/Animation since 2007.
Peter Dolchin advanced to VP/Strategy and Business Operations with MTV Networks. In his new role, Peter will manage new business along with VOD, iTV, international channels and authentication.
Marketing science company, Centris upped Kevin Babyak to SVP/Research Operations. Kevin, who has been with Centris since 2005, will manage survey operations, market modeling, forecasting and syndicated reports.
