Good morning. It’s Thursday, February 2, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Lifetime is back on DISH. It was about a month ago a fee negotiation between Lifetime and DISH broke down, leaving Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network off the satellite provider. A multi-year agreement to carry both networks was arrived at between their corporate entities, Lifetime Entertainment Services and Echostar, tho what that fee agreement ended up being has not been disclosed.

CBS: Survivor Panama: Exile Island at 8p
*MORE GOOD STUFF*Spring revamp to ABC’s schedule – new series and a few returning – new series in bold, returning in italics:
- Super Nanny returns Monday, March 6 at 9p
- Miracle Workers debuts March 6 at 10p, and remains in the time period for 4 weeks – high octane doctors who work miracles
- American Inventor will air on Thursdays at 9p as of 3/23, but will preview the week prior at 8p – contestants display their inventions to panel of judges
- The Evidence debuts on Wednesday, March 22 at 10p – crime solving partners always begin with the Evidence
- EM: Home Edition – After the Storm will air four 1-hour specials set in the Gulf Coast on Thursdays at 8p starting 3/23

Lifetime has teamed up with Peter Guber’s Mandalay Television and author Nora Roberts and will produce four films based on Roberts’ best-selling novels. An interesting stat provided by Lifetime – Roberts’ books sell on average at the rate of 21 books every minute. Currently six novels are being considered, tho only four will ultimately be chosen: Blue Smoke, Carolina Moon, Montana Sky, The Villa, Brazen Virtue and River’s End.
CBS White House correspondent John Roberts has moved over to CNN as of February 20. He was most recently seen covering the President’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday night. For CNN, Roberts will be the senior national correspondent based in Washington, and will occasionally sub at the anchor desk.
* NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Three new pilot pickups for Fox:
- Bash is a variety style celebrity roast series, roasting regular folks, from and starring Jeffrey Ross, from 20th Century Fox TV and Fox21. Ross serves as Roastmaster and will be accompanied by Bob Saget, Anthony Michael Hall and Jeff Garlin.
- Til Death is about a newlywed couple who have just moved in next door to a long-married couple. The project is from Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa, and Sony Pictures TV.
- Beyond is a based in a NASA jet propulsion lab during a time when the race to space has been renewed after a global crisis. This project comes from Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox TV
NBC will launch an internet-exclusive series this summer on NBC.com called StarTomorrow, a co-production between Mottola Co., 25/7 Prods., and 3 Ball Prods. The idea is simple – viewers (or internet users) will vote on who they think is the next big singing star or group. The winner will have assistance guiding their career from Tommy Mottola (who has also worked with the likes of Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen among others), and receive a contract with Mottola’s Casablanca label, a division of Universal Music Group, according to Variety. The series is expected to continue for four months, beginning with approx 100 contestants who are whittled down to just one.
* EXECUTIVE MOVES *Court TV announces promotions for January 2006, naming Joe Schwinghammer, SVP/Engineering and Facilities. Joe will be responsible for all of the large space renovation projects at Court TV, and will oversee technical production and staff of the entire facility. Court TV has also named Mark Kang, VP/Affiliate Relations. Mark will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of the affiliate relations department, including managing all national accounts. He will also manage east coast regional markets and commercial distribution of these markets.
Datamonitor PLC has appointed Tim Royston-Webb as Managing Director/ Technology Global. Tim joins from Forrester Research where he was a successful VP of Sales for EMEA.
Kathy Davidov has joined National Geographic Television & Film as VP/Series. Reporting to NGT&F EVP, Michael Rosenfeld, Kathy will be responsible for overseeing the Series Production Unit as well as the award-winning National Geographic Explorer series.
Steve Turney has been appointed Director/Sales for Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution in Europe, effective immediately. In his position, Steve will be responsible for sales of feature film and scripted television product to free and basic broadcasters within European territories. Based in the company’s London office, he will report to Yoni Cohen, VP/Sales.
Michele Debreceni has been promoted to Director/New Media for Razor & Tie Entertainment, based at the company’s headquarters in New York City. She will report to Edith Bellinghausen, VP/New Media. Most recently Michele was Associate Director/New Media.
CNN announces appointments in Ad Sales and Marketing Division. Michael Connors has been appointed along with Marybeth Strobel to the newly created positions of Digital Sales Managers/CNN Ad Sales and Marketing. They will both manage all of CNN’s domestic digital ad sales initiatives as well as work closely with the National Television Ad Sales Group and the Strategic Integration Group to develop integrated custom marketing opportunities and solutions for advertisers across the breadth of the CNN brand. Additionally, Katrina Cukaj has been promoted to Team Manager/National Television Sales (New York). In her new capacity, Katrina will manage agency and client relationships, and continue to develop integrated custom sponsorship opportunities and platforms for advertisers.
Scott Rowe has been upped to SVP/Corporate Communications, Warner Bros. Entertainment. In this newly-expanded post, Scott will assume greater responsibility for the company’s internal and external positioning in the business, trade and consumer press. Working with EVP Susan Fleishman, Scott will also share responsibility for all communications activities as they pertain to external and employee audiences, as well as work closely with Time Warner’s corporate communications team to best represent the Studio and its various business units to the internal, public, press and investor communities.
* RATINGS *
Tuesday- A18-49 Analysis: Fox led the pre-POTUS charge with American Idol’s wampum 11.9/30 A18-49 rating, according to fast affiliate numbers from Nielsen Media Research, dusting the competition. CBS was the closest competitor wtih a repeat of NCIS pulling a minor 2.6/7. The time period ratings for the State of the Union Address (9-11p averages) still find Fox in front with a 3.5/9, followed by 5 share ties between ABC and NBC. Among the non-POTUS programming at 9-10p, WB’s Supernatural averaged a 2.6/5, followed by Univision’s 2.0/5. At 10p Univision’s debut of Vecinos earned a 1.6/4, and Telemundo a 0.4/1 for the hour.

Michele Debreceni has been promoted to Director/New Media for Razor & Tie Entertainment, based at the company’s headquarters in New York City. She will report to Edith Bellinghausen, VP/New Media. Most recently Michele was Associate Director/New Media.
CNN announces appointments in Ad Sales and Marketing Division. Michael Connors has been appointed along with Marybeth Strobel to the newly created positions of Digital Sales Managers/CNN Ad Sales and Marketing. They will both manage all of CNN’s domestic digital ad sales initiatives as well as work closely with the National Television Ad Sales Group and the Strategic Integration Group to develop integrated custom marketing opportunities and solutions for advertisers across the breadth of the CNN brand. Additionally, Katrina Cukaj has been promoted to Team Manager/National Television Sales (New York). In her new capacity, Katrina will manage agency and client relationships, and continue to develop integrated custom sponsorship opportunities and platforms for advertisers.
Scott Rowe has been upped to SVP/Corporate Communications, Warner Bros. Entertainment. In this newly-expanded post, Scott will assume greater responsibility for the company’s internal and external positioning in the business, trade and consumer press. Working with EVP Susan Fleishman, Scott will also share responsibility for all communications activities as they pertain to external and employee audiences, as well as work closely with Time Warner’s corporate communications team to best represent the Studio and its various business units to the internal, public, press and investor communities.

Tuesday- A18-49 Analysis: Fox led the pre-POTUS charge with American Idol’s wampum 11.9/30 A18-49 rating, according to fast affiliate numbers from Nielsen Media Research, dusting the competition. CBS was the closest competitor wtih a repeat of NCIS pulling a minor 2.6/7. The time period ratings for the State of the Union Address (9-11p averages) still find Fox in front with a 3.5/9, followed by 5 share ties between ABC and NBC. Among the non-POTUS programming at 9-10p, WB’s Supernatural averaged a 2.6/5, followed by Univision’s 2.0/5. At 10p Univision’s debut of Vecinos earned a 1.6/4, and Telemundo a 0.4/1 for the hour.
