New reality series, Coming Home will premiere on Lifetime Television March 6 at 10p following the fifth season opener of Army Wives at 9p.  In each of the 13 one-hour episodes of Coming Home, the show will follow five surprise family reunions of soldiers representing all five branches of the US military as they come home after spending active duty throughout the world.  American Idol finalist Matt Rogers will host the series produced by RelativityREAL, LLC.  Army Wives is produced by ABC Studios for Lifetime Television.

GSN introduces a new original spring programming lineup starting April 11 with the launch of Love Triangle hosted by Wendy Williams at 7p followed by the premiere of Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza at 8p. Wedged between these two shows is Baggage with host Jerry Springer airing at 730p.  On April 18, GSN will debut a new season of The Newlywed Game helmed by Sherri Shepherd at 6:30p.  Each night, the first three half-hour shows form a “love block” of relationship-themed shows for the network: The Newlywed Game, Love Triangle and Baggage with Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza following directly after.

Starting next Wednesday, New Yorkers can view the actual golden Oscar statuettes that will be presented to the Best Actor and Best Actress winners at the 83rd Academy Awards.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents “Meet the Oscars, Grand Central” showcasing the Oscars on display at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal with Oscar-winner Whoopi Goldberg hosting the opening ceremony on Wednesday at 1p.  Admission is free to the public.  Then on February 25, the statuettes will journey to Hollywood where they will be presented February 27 during the Academy Awards presentation on ABC.

Before the series finale of Smallville airs on The CW May 13, the network will air the very first episode on April 8 at 8p which originally ran on October 16, 2001 on The WB, reports TV Guide.  In addition, Michael Rosenbaum will reprise his role of Lex Luthor, rival to Clark Kent in the series finale.

Henry Winkler, best known for his role as the Fonz on Happy Days and more recently appearing on USA Network’s Royal Pains, will get the royal treatment from the Queen of England.  Winkler will become one of only four people outside the UK to receive an Order of the British Empire in 2011.  He is receiving the honor for his work with learning-challenged children in the UK.  Winkler’s award will be presented at a special ceremony later this year in Washington.

Discovery US Hispanic offers Upfronts for Discovery en Espanol and Discovery Familia in New York City on May 18 from 930-11a at the Four Seasons Restaurant.  Both networks will present their programming lineups and projects in development.

This Friday, ESPN 3D will air boxing in 3D for the first time with ESPN’s Friday Night Fights beginning at 9p from Salisbury, MD.  The boxing match will also be available on ESPN2 with analysts Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas commenting on the action.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered four new series this week and reported the results:

  • Monday’s debut of Searching For . . . at 9p posted a 0.19 rating among W25-54 and delivered 291,000 total viewers.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Laura Prepon (That ’70s Show) will play comedienne Chelsea Handler in Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea in the multi-camera comedy pilot for NBC.  The plot is based on Handler’s autobiography of the same title about her life in her 20s.  Dottie Zicklin and Julie Larson are writing and executive producing along with Handler.

ABC tagged James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) to co-star in its pilot Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23.  The comedy’s plot centers on June (Dreama Walker), an honest, positive girl from the heartland who is forced to move in with Chloe, a crazy New York City party girl who has unscrupulous morals.  Van Der Beek will play Chloe’s best friend.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will host WrestleMania XXVII on April 3 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
