Comedy Central wants more of Daniel Tosh, approving a second season of his weekly series Tosh.0. The network handed Tosh.0 a 25-episode order, marking the largest episode order for a single season renewal by the network. The new season premieres January 13 at 1030p. In addition, Comedy Central is filming a one-hour original stand-up special with Tosh which will be released with extended content on DVD and CD as well as hosting a national tour. Season one of Tosh.0 debuted on June 4, 2009 with 16 episodes, averaging 1.3 million total viewers.

Lifetime Television presents a seventh season of Project Runway back in New York, opening January 14 at 10p. Host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia will all return as 16 new designers compete for the chance to have their creations in front of top industry leaders during New York Fashion Week and win a slew of other prizes. Companion series, Models of the Runway also returns on January 14 for a second season at 11p, where 16 model wannabes vie for the opportunity to be the solo model paired with the Project Runway design winner. Both series are produced by The Weinstein Company, Miramax Films, Bunim-Murray Productions and Full Picture.

HBO opens a fourth season of its drama Big Love on January 10 at 9p. Nine new episodes will air on Sundays at 9p.

In other HBO news, the premium pay cable network is bringing back a second season of its animated comedy The Life and Times of Tim on February 19, reports Variety. The series, currently in production, has been off the air since November 2008 and will return with ten episodes. The Life and Times of Tim will air at 1030p on Fridays following new animated 30m series The Ricky Gervais Show. Media Rights Capital produces.

As a sign of the times, the 2010 NATPE conference in Las Vegas is downsizing its floor space. The January 25-27 event, themed Content Commerce Connections will move from its former home in the conference space at the Mandalay Bay Resort to several ballrooms in the hotel. This is also the last NATPE conference to be in Las Vegas for at least the next two years as NATPE is scheduled to be in Miami in 2011 and 2012. Scaling back the floor space is a result of more top syndication distributors choosing to do business in private suites rather than in the main exhibition area. Attendance for the 2009 NATPE dropped to approximately 6,000 significantly down from the peak number of 20,000 in 2001.

Program Call:   Cynopsis Media is producing our annual NATPE Shopping Guide sent to all Cynopsis subscribers on Thursday, January 21, the week before NATPE 2010.  If your company is exhibiting and you’d like to have your programming included, please send only the following info for your top 5 shows: title, availability date, number of episodes, length, type (i.e., movie, series, special, etc.), genre and your terms (barter, cash, etc.). and location (hotel suite or booth number). To be included in this free and highly-viewed special edition, please send details to lisa@cynopsis.com no later than Friday, January 15, 2010. A confirmation email will be sent following each submission.

And a quick housekeeping note — after this Friday, Cynopsis will be off for the holiday, returning January 4, 2010.  With that said, we will continue to post information on the home page of our website www.cynopsis.com, where we have just begun posting links to the releases we did not include within the emailed edition.  That will continue thru our break.  And as we have for the past 12 years, look for our annual Cynopsis: Year in Review 2009 edition to come out at the crack of midnight, January 1, 2010.
